I wouldn't mind Pearce on and Cork to right back, but not sure about midfield as I assume that means DMG up front. But of course a goal off his backside and I'd buy him a pint tonight. We're still in the hunt, one flukey goal and we're 7 points clear of relegation.

Even those saying promotion, play offs and we is the bestest:rolleyes::rolleyes: As of now we sit 4th bottom, that's the realistic part of following Saints at the moment.
-
Are you saying a result wouls be a draw??? Cos I would defintiely take that and stay 4 points clear of Charlton.
-
As at half time we drop down a place. The bottom of the table looks like Norwich-----23 Blackpool----22 Watford-----22 Us----------21 Charlton----17 Forest------16 Donny------14 Can't afford to lose if these results stay the same

Saints Greatest XI - Nominations For Best CBs.

Mark Wright (16 caps whilst here) & Dave Watson (18 caps whilst here). After that, Killer as a third choice, then probably Nicholl, Ruddock & Lundekvam. Would loved to have seen how Hall would have panned out if (a) he hadn't have fccukced off, and (b) he hadn't gotten injured. -
As it stands we're still 5 points ahead of them. Watford go 1 point above us. Charlton still 4 points adrift from us. Norwich and Blackpool still above us.

A photo of their League Cup win in the 60's??? Their play off winning team from a few years back??? Picture of Gil Merrick (England international & I think their manager)??? Or maybe Trevor Francis??? Who do I associate with Birmingham??? Jasper Carrot, Noel Blake, Bob Latchford, Karen Brady, so maybe a combination of those!!!! -
Just noticed all three teams above us are away from home (although we can only overhaul two of them). Bad news is Watford are at home to Donny, so they have a good chance of overhauling us. But first things first, we need to win and then I presume the next best result for us would be for Watford to lose (or draw).

In the grand scheme of things, you would have to argue that changing pictures in the Boardroom is pretty irrelevant. But when it comes down to the context and situation with which this Club finds itself in, with all these egos fighting each other, it takes on an altogether different perspective. In this case, it is just another sympton of the pettiness, maliase and in fighting (by all parties) which is plaguing the Club at the present time. -
I too would be happy with a draw. 5 points from 3 games is a good return and it would also stop Charlton stealing a march on us. That said, given our away form and the fact they are sh11yt3 at the moment, we really could get 3 points here. 1-0 to Saints.

As if;) And it would appear that you have been able to make the same distinction that I have. In that I think it is a great effort in trying to reach out to the fans and to engender a good spirit between the supporters and the players, management and the Club, but at the same time Jan will have to be judged on his success on the pitch.

Season ticket cash would be banked, but it wouldn't flow straight in the P&L figures that were releases, instead it is released as the games are played. Going back to Vectis' point, although normal Mays are quite blank, you have to remember that this May, Leeds played all the way through (with big attendances) as they got to the play offs. So they then pulled in an extra 5,000 punters for every league game, had a play off semi (36,000) and a trip to the Play off final (share of 75,000 punters). That's something like 200,000 extra punters through that season, which could easily be 4million. On top of that pure ticket money, with 25% more fans than us, then I think it wouldn't be too hard to imagine commercial revenues would also be higher. I've just had a look at their season ticket prices and they are actually comparable to what we pay (and I think more in the main stands). I think the main part fo the difference is punters through the door (and associated income they bring with them).

Hello Mr Pot!!! And there was me thinking it was you who was telling people what they should think, what they should post etc etc etc.

Behave yourself. Go back and have a look at my posts and I think you'll find there's loads of support for Jan, and also loads of praise for him going out and meeting the supporters on their own turf. Maybe if you need to look in the mirror with regards being divisive, negative and judgemental.

Almost halfway through the season and we are still in a relegation battle. When we went down people trotted out "the results will soon change" line on a regular basis. The time to deliver has come.
-
And as I have said numerous times on here, on most of the occasions when I have heard him speak (particularly in the flesh after the West Ham game) he comes across as fairly honest, decent and warm fella. But he has to translate that into success on the pitch and particularly at home, because despite coming across OK, being a decent fella and saying all the right things, we have been pretty poor at home and sit just above the relegation zone. I admire his stance in going out to meet the fans and think it can only be positive with regards developing a feeling of unity and spirit in the Club off the pitch, but that is no substitute for deliveirng on the pitch.
-
As much as I applaud these efforts to get out and meet the grass roots supporters, I do think what is said has to be viewed in a sensible and rational manner. With regards judging the character, ability and success of a manager, then platitudes and soundbites don't play any real part. Jan has to deliver on the pitch and I truly hope he can, because he does appear to be a decent fella (and of course that would mean a modicum of success which is all we all want), but ultimately results on the pitch will be the decider of how much character he has.
-
The 14 month period certainly muddies th picture somewhat, but if you straight line it down to 12 months, then you get just under 20 million. We by contrast pulled in just under 15million. So we're looking at a difference of 5million. I think the single largest difference is their larger attendances and I'm also sure that they had some pretty expensive season ticket prices as well (can remember the furore when Bates upped them a while back). After that, I'm sure accompanying commercial revenue from that larger fanbase probably fills in the gap. They have one of the most ardent fanbases with regards spending money on their club. When there was much research into football Clubs having their own football channels (and local cable being one of the main carriers) then after Man Yoo, Leeds were second when it came to potential punters willing to fork out XX pounds per month.

I heard he and others were visiting the London Saints earlier in the week and have to say that these visits out to the fans can only be seen as a good thing to do. I think there should be more of these type of events, and I think the players should be out much more in the community doing things. There will always be schools, local teams & other community groups & institutions in and around the city that they could go and visit. For me it's a great way of building up some rapport with existing (and prospective) supporters. I think recent years have seen the relationship between the Club and its supporters suffer, so we really do need to be doing things like this to try and rebuild bridges. Whether Jan & Wotte are the right men for the job is a totally seperate argument, and ultimately they will have to be judged on their results (and no amount of schmoozing would be able to cover up any deficiencies), but full marks for them getting out and about whilst they are here;).

He was indeed, and I cornered him after that interview for Meridian at the time. I'm even sure it was a Friday night as I ended up missing my lift into town!!!!!!!! He had no idea that the capacity at the Rose Bowl could eventually go up to something like 20,000, and that internationals would possibly be held there. He also couldn't give a decent response to why it would was different to build on greenfield land at West End than for Stoneham. Eventually, he trotted out the old line about marauding football supporters spilling into Eastleigh etc etc etc. EBC and House did eventually warm to Stoneham (although as many have pointed out, I'm not overly sure just how committed they were), but earlier in the project EBC councillors did vote 16-0 against it (before they were overturned by the Dept of the Environment)!!!!

With all due respect, you offered up your view point and Wes and I merely offered up our own views (as well as correcting a few factual inaccuracies in your post). Now if you find our views bewildering, then ultimately that is your decision. However, I do think your use of the word bewildering is rather strange. Apart from a few obstinate posters, a few weirdos and a few wind up merchants, posters on here tend to form and hold their own beliefs after much thought and mulling over. I may disagree with some people's outlooks an opinions on certain matters, but I can appreciate they are their own validly held and espoused opinions and I certainly wouldn't be bewildered just because someone disagreed with me!!!!! In fact, I would probably find it more bewildering if everyone in the Saints family held the same viewpoint about things (apart from everyone accepting Shilton as our best ever goalkeeper....... now hang on, don't some think it's Niemi??? How bewildering!!!!). If you have a different outlook then fair enough, if you have some different information then fair enough, but to come on here and post two lengthy posts and then resort to one line quips when people respond is slightly akin to taking your ball away in a huff.

I too am not knocking Lowe here. As you recount, the search for a new stadium had taken years (probably back in to the 70's if you include the schemes encompassing Wide Lane, Western Esplanade and I'm sure even a rumoured attempt to do a Wolves and rotate The Dell 90 degrees!!!). He inherited a project that had begun something like 5 or 6 years before he even turned up at The Dell. This was a scheme that would probably require the support of all three councils involved, SCC (mainly Labour during key points of the period), EBC (mainly Liberal) and HCC (mainly conservative) and with all the vested interests and party politics at play, it was always going to be a big ask. As you state we appeared to have had limited options, as although at the point Stoneham became the favourite choice in the early 90's there were something like 10+ other sites that had also been put put forward, but these were all rejected.

It might really upset you but this young man is one of the warmest, nicest and kindest people you would ever wish to meet. For no other reason than being a Saints fan, he put me up for a week when I was travelling the States. He then extended that warm hospitality and kindness to a number of my friends (and I also know he has looked after many Saints fans when they were over on the West Coast). On top of all that, as much as you may not believe it and as much as it probably guts you, this guy is very, very, very well connected and respected over there. And to top it, he is as much of a fanny magnet as he makes out So, Once Bitterne, you keep stalking him as if that's the limit of your life, then Timmy babes ****5ess on you from a great height :toimonster:(but please dont stop stalking me cos I'd miss that!!!).
