Puncheon to Palace - Official (Season Loan)

I was not comparing the class of the others to Puncheon just that every stage in this journey better players are being brought in and unfortunately the old guard need to move on! It is the difficult balance of sentiment versus progress! -
Puncheon to Palace - Official (Season Loan)

Football has 11 positions in a team and it is the managers job to pick who feels are the best 11 to carry out his tactics. Everyone has opinions but it is the managers that counts. Yes Puncheon has been good for Saints recently but then again arguably so were Hammond, Sharp Harding and even Adkins in their time and we moved on. NC has a plan to get to the top 6 fast and there is little room in this plan for sentimentality. Is that right? It has certainly been effective to date! One could argue some of the others were actually more loyal to the Saints than Punch. He is a good impact player at this level but we are moving onwards and upwards and the manager cannot carry an over bloated squad and bring in improvments at the same time. Something has to give! In this case it appears MP thinks it should be Punch! We can argue if he is the right or the wrong one. but it is MP's and the rest of the managements view that counts in the end. If he goes he goes with my best wishes for success and thanks for his contribution to date like all the others. We have at least helped him to prove he is Premiere standard and given his career boost! -

We were the away team looked solid and dominated possession! lets judge the creativity and number of chances in the home matches! (we did have more chances and shots than the home team and they were a good solid side last year who walked all over us twice) -
Bit of a tonking here 4-1 now

Who is to blame for the Summer of inactivity?
Saint Without a Halo replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Saints
Not 5, I think you are getting 7 Glasgow! The good players are cureently all sitting tight hoping for better and bigger offers or have offers but are tied up in complex chains (like house buying) awaiting the first move to free up money and allow deals to complete. When we get towards the end of the season and agents panic then we will see a whole series of movements that in turn will generate waves of others as players move and cash gets re allocated. -

Says it all! If our transfer policy has been a failure over the last three years, can we please have more of the same! From the mid 60's till 2005 in our previous top division runs, most years we would be selling Morgan and Shaw and replacing them with old has beens. Like we sold Shearer and brought in a fading Dixon and a past it Speedie (who themselves were shipped out by Chelsea then an ordinairy first division team). our aim was rarley more than to hang on to our status. Buying two class players and holding on to our young stars would have been brave novel and unheard of! In fact twice we ended up with good teams on the verge of challenging through a mixture of good prudent cheap buying combined with up and coming good youngsters, in the mid 80's and in 2003. However both times we failed to strengthen and subsequently lost our managers and then key talent to others. We must not be too greedy now as this time we have both strengthened and kept our talent. May it continue to be so! -

PRE-SEASON: Southampton vs Beşiktaş - (17:30 BST)

No real threat or pattern to our play -
Remember we are aiming to bring youth through too! cant do that if you buy up a new team! As A saints supporter for over 45 years I can tell you the two signings we have made are certainly ambitious compared generally to who we used to buy (a few exceptions of course)

A politician I can respect, what a rare thing! Cortese deserves a lot of respect for taking forward the principles of the club and really investing in them! He didnt have to! -
