Always had a soft spot for boro, through friends, and because my grandad came from there in the 30's. Thought their support was good, and they paid a price for at least trying to play football at SMS. Richard Chaplow was just unreal today.

He is a clever man and can see what he is acheiving here. With everything he says and his record of loyalty to his previous club, you would be absolutely shocked if he did't stay long enough to see this through, or establish it can't be done!

Fair play.

Brilliant brilliant game. Morgan was outstanding for me. Nigel Adkins is a football genius.

Not wishing to be smug but your prediction for the seven games is starting to look well off course tonight. Saints look good for a top six finish now because; 1. the form we have is based on good habits, work ethics and sound overall ability 2. win, lose or draw we continue to make other sides look ordinary 3. we don't seem to bottle games when they are important 4. we don't depend on one player I am sure you are as chuffed as everyone else. Do you want to revise your prediction for the season now?
-
you do wonder about that.

I think there is no argument for a bigger ground in the current climate. In 2003/04 there was a whole lot of informal corparate seats in the ground, and I think most business people have cut that sort of thing back big time. We are a few interest rate rises and banking hiccups away from serious business and personal distress all round. If we get back to the EPL and continue to serve up the kind of football we are getting used to we may fill SMS again and that will look really good compared to other clubs.

I think if you amend it to "+/- Glory hunters dependant on factor derived from current league position" you have the basis of a good university thesis

I have a theory; You start with a basic support dependant on the size of your urban catchment area (e.g spurs/villa etc). Over time this can be enhanced by; 1. winning things and acheiving whatever it takes to get watched by kids on tv, who become future support (e.g chelsea since the 90's or whenever they got to the top league) 2. playing attractive football that engages your support and gets them through the gates (e.g newcastle during and after keegans first spell) 3. hiring or developing cult talent that some people will pay to come and see play Does anyone have a view on how long a club needs to do 1. 2. and 3. well or badly to really influence its support, (or am I just talking c**p)?

very funny but i think you should have a lie down.

the amount we are scoring currently suggests to me a concept album
-
have we done that? honestly haven't noticed.

Fair play on getting the first three right! We will see how the next ones go. I do think we have a lot of quality. For example after 15 minutes today it looked like Watford were the first team to turn up at SMS that had sussed us out, but by late in the second half they looked totally bewildered and the plan had long since gone out of the window. After Derby got tonked today and have two weeks to stew on it, I for one wouldn't like to guess how that will go.

Ummm, he is, but the next bit involves taking 2 points from 4 games, and I still think the "happy with" is comical. My problem with the whole "we don't want to much success to soon, consolidate this season" argument is that I think this team is on the boil and it will loose momentum, and lallana, if it fails to fulfil its potential this season.

My 11 year old son took one of his friends to the game on Sunday, as we had a spare ticket. He follows Liverpool, and had never seen football in a decent stadium. Instant convert, which is hardly suprising considering the entertainment we are getting and the feel good factor in the ground. With seats both available and cheap for kids in the chapel, it is a great time to create the saints of the future.

Someones going up and we are top of the league this week, so we have more reason to be optimistic than anyone else! We have shown brilliant consistency, great attitude, discipline and ability to keep the nucleus of the team fit over about 10 or 11 months now, so is it really all going to go to rat **** in 5 minutes. I remember watching us under redknapp and burley and thinking this has got to start going right in a minute, and it didn't! We were just as good as we were, and no better.

The predictions are funny but the "happy with" is pure comedy.

Singing "The Saints are going up" in September.

What tune would go with "we are a good bet for a top ten finish"? -
David Connolly made so much space and held possession so well today. Cork was very good as well.
-
Exactly. The players and manager generally have the same aspirations as the fans. The chairman can soon be heading off at a tangent.
-
I thought he looked OK today, but anyway he played miles better than he did against forest!
-
Great game. The back four shape and orgasnisation was miles better this week. David Connolly had a terrific game, and from the Chapel, I thought Jos Hooiveld looked much more confident in the air, and on the ball. Going forward we didn't actually look at our best, and still scored 4!

I find my Cleber Chala tatoo is a real ice breaker, whenever I'm in Ecudor on business.

Most out of his depth performance in a saints shirt since about 1992; Lee Todd - left back brought in by Dave Jones I think. Ali dia may have been worse but he wasn't really on long enough to be certain. Honourable mention - Patrick Colleter

Rivalry with Pompey and Bompey is good craic but it is really hard for fans of any club when people gain control who don't really have the means to take the thing forward, and start to swallow their own hype. Still, rather them than us!
