What players will you miss, should they leave, when we go down?
Miltonaggro replied to Dman's topic in The Saints
None of the players but I will certainly miss Marty Semmens, as he is bound to be poached when we go through the trapdoor. Claire's Accessories at the Swan Centre may be looking for a new assistant manager come May. -
I think Ankersen has been exposed and seen. Solak likely to wait until the end of the season but I think he's done at Saints, probably done in football. Best description to add to the above appropriate suggestions is a busted flush.

Relegation - What two teams do we take with us
Miltonaggro replied to Lee On Solent Saint's topic in The Saints
Everton and bucket rattlers. -
You’d have to think that with Ankersen costing Solak £8-9m in unrecoverable costs in a single operating quarter that there might be a parting of ways come May. At that point, spunking a fortune on mad Nat might prove a bargain for saints in the long run.

Is McCarthy fit or just out of favour? A Selles clean slate reprieve should be considered. Despite his known shortcomings I’d prefer AM for the run in given our idiotically limited options (140 odd prem games over Cabelleros 30 odd). Think Gavin needs a ‘rest’. To be honest only Lavia of the Man City baby gang deserves to be a shoe-in the first team as we go into the next few months, not a time to be learning on the job.

Rumour is that in the early 80s Rupert Von Lowe visited a klinik in Copenhagen to make a series of 2 minute deposits having been fascinated by the movie the Boys From Brazil. Would not be too much of a stretch to consider that Rasmus (Danish for Rupert) has a direct link sharing both DNA, sports management acumen, and an innate ability to judge good character with the Oxfordshire Fuhrer.

Selles stuck with the Chelsea side and that was a costly learning curve today. We were toothless and second best all over the park. Substitutions baffling also. Next time out it needs to be the obvious best 11 without the loyalty towards the likes of Bednarek, Moi, and Walcott who simply shouldn't be anywhere near the line up, Bazunu needs a 'rest' too. Leicester massive now of course, but we regressed today and a nasty reality check.

Those subs are going to neuter any chance left today. Error.

Come on Saints, purple patch in this game due!

Even the fittest man in the world would struggle to carry that off!

Let's be having you Saints against the dirty Leeds United! Get the collective red and white blood pressure down a bit further. COYR!

Was it a Mr N R G Jones, of no fixed formation? A thirty page CV sounds like the most comprehensive in Europe, if not the World.
-
We looked dead and buried under Jones, but this season every club from 12th down (currently Palace) could feasibly get dragged into the scrap. When we were annually battling against relegation in the 90s it all seemed to come down to the form and focus of key individual players and a feeling of positive momentum, or at least unity. Starting to feel that for us to escape the drop this time around we are going to need all that in our favour. Having resigned myself to relegation earlier this month and witnessed shite football and off field brain damage this season I am now fully engaged and interested in what Selles can get out of this young side, actually looking forward to games again. Win against Leeds today and it’s probably at least in our hands to an extent, and given the self inflicted injury that Saints this year we couldn’t hope for much more.

Excellent summary. In the late 70s into the 80s the scum label was always directed from Saints towards Portsmouth.

Worth the subscription fee on its own!

Sensible move by both parties I think. When Jones was sacked we looked dead and buried, so post Chelsea it will be interesting to see what Selles can do with a bit of security of tenure. Our players en masse are saying they want to play for Ruben so some positive energy at the very least.

Sad news. Always looked forward to Motson commentating on our matches during the halcyon days (for me) of late seventies and eighties. Looking out for him in his sheepskin coat on the gantry at the Dell. Genuinely the voice of a generation of football fans. RIP Motty!

Give it time, Will! :)

Against all past historical form I managed to predict the win at Chelsea so going to chance my arm and suggest another narrow win for Selles’ Saints here - 0-1 or 1-2. If that happens the light at the end of the tunnel will be up to 40 watts. COYR!

No, kidding, you were spot on.

Heartily agree. The Ted Bates statue debacle was golden in more ways than one. Laughing thinking about some of the pics and comments.
