This isn't unique to us. In your post, you talk about Spain. There are many, many Brit enclaves in Spain where many of the residents don't even attempt to speak Spanish, and use fellow Brit trades for, e.g., pool cleaning, hairdressing and so on. I bet this happens in other countries that British people choose to migrate to. When people move to a country other than that of their birth, I think it's entirely understandable that they seek out fellow nationals for support and advice. And if, perhaps, they don't get a very nice reception from the indigenous population, it's also entirely understandable that they develop friendships with people of the same background. From what I've read, the only parts of Sharia law that are sometimes used in this country relate to contracts and finance and it's a form of arbitration. We have other methods of arbitration apart from the law - Marriage Guidance for example. I think I'm right in that Sharia law says that people who lend money shouldn't make obscene returns on those loans?

Was he just talking about England, or the whole of the UK? I would venture that the Scots, Welsh and Irish would consider their national identities to be very different to that of the English - so it's important to know who he was actually talking about. I'm not too clear about what our collective moral viewpoint is. I expect we all have different moral standpoints. Who decides what the British / English view is? The church ? - but we have many churches, even within the Christian faith. What about those of us who are humanists / aetheists / agnostics / devil worshipppers? Many people (not on here but esteemed commentators) have said the words are empty - he's not given any detail about what he actually means.

My only thought - he's simply copying what Angela Merkel said a few months ago. Not an original thought then

Must have been late 80s / early 90s? I'd moved away by then but my daughter was at So'ton University and I remember going into Dunnes (?) with her then.

I still don't get Lampitt's role in all this. If I was in a bit of a sinecure, bringing home a decent coin, I don't know that I'd jack it in to join a club like PFC. OK he probably got paid more, but he must have known the risks. I still wonder if he's spying on them

Aren't there further penalties (e.g. points deductions) if they go into administration more than once over a given period of time?

Someone mentioned the coffee supplier in Above Bar. I used to love walking past that place, breathing in deeply. Just a door or so along from there, opposite the old Information Bureau, there used to be a coffee bar - the Tudor? It was a normal cafe on the ground floor but with a coffee bar in the basement. One of my fave haunts in my youth. Another favourite haunt, also a basement, was the Checkpoint coffee bar by the Bargate. Oh happy days

Oh this is bringing back memories for me too. I had Saturday jobs in both Owen Owen and Debenhams. But I can remember Edwin Jones before it became Debenhams. It was almost like a prefabricated building, put up as a temporary measure after the war I suppose. When I was a little girl, my grandfather (who was in the MN with Cunard) used to take the whole family to lunch in Mayes (as it was then) when he was home on leave. I can remember thinking it was very posh to have icecream served in a little silver dish!

This. Oh - not that I adore Mrs Trousers!!!!!! Mr TF often buys flowers for me and we love each other all the time, not just on 14 February. Consumer claptrap IMO

There's a poll on their Saints website section about transfer dealings. It's impossible to vote on it because some job vacancies roll across it. Click on your choice in the poll and you get directed to a job vacancy! Bloody amateurs

Do you look at the accounts of every company you ever buy stuff from?

I would hate this forum to be used for recruitment purposes but, nonetheless, believing, as I do, in the right of the individual to express an opinion, I think the thread should stay. If it should degenerate into outright racism, sexism, homophobia etc. etc. then, by all means, close it. But in the meantime let the man have his say - he'll be the architect of his own downfall. -

thegreatmorass on Twitter: "Lots of Portsmouth fans upset at the lack of transfer activity. We need at least one decent signing before 11pm!" Dream on, cheats
