  1. 86% for Obama  I wish.
  2. Corp - you haven't got a bloke called LifeLong Skate interested, have you?
  3. Europe's richest man, Rinat Akhmetov, has turned down the opportunity to buy Portsmouth. An intermediary acting for the club last month approached representatives of System Capital Management, the holding company that controls Akhmetov's other businesses, with a prospectus, but was rebuffed immediately. Akhmetov, who made his fortune in mining and metallurgical concerns, has been the president of the Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk since 1996. Portsmouth owner Alexandre Gaydamak, who has also been in talks with the South African consortium that has been linked to Fulham and Charlton, is believed to be looking for £40m for the club, which is understood to have debts totalling £50m. Also from that article. The bold bits made me chuckle too
  4. I can't find pics of my poor old cat, Trevor. But, as I want to play, I thought I'd share a pic of my granddaughter. As you can see, even at 5 months, she's like her grandmother - a bookworm
  5. Is it me, or does anyone else get annoyed with the sponsor advert talking about 'this SOCCER show'.
  6. Article about him in the Observer Sport today And he was being bigged up on MOTD last night.
  7. So now when you guys all wander off for a septic, I'll know what you're really doing
  8. OIC  I feel very silly now
  9. :smt022I don't understand
  10. Eh? Died from poison? Or did you mean sceptic? Not like you Rob
  11. Dark Sotonic Mills seems to know a lot about HR stuff and employment law.
  12. I don't think Little Britain is in the slightest bit funny any more. Just the same old one themes repeated over and over. I imagine some viewers would find the stuff they do very offensive. Doesn't bother me - I don't watch it any more. But I was talking about BBC programmes in general actually. Like the classic dramas, Spooks, the Arts programmes, the documentaries, David Attenborough's stuff etc. etc.
  13. Most of them dross. The only ones worth watching are the ones that show BBC repeats IMO. However, if the BBC does stop showing GOOD comedy, then I'll switch. But then the BBC does do outstanding programmes with the quality unmatched by any other programme producers.
  14. Err, I thought the go-slow problems with the old site had been resolved with the new site?
  15. TDD At no time have I EVER said that the Brand Russell stuff was cutting edge as you will see if you read my post (or any of my previous posts on this subject) again. To me, cutting edge comedy is the sort of stuff done by Mark Thomas. And I'd be VERY worried if that sort of stuff was removed as a result of these events or because certain sections of the press didn't like it.
  16. I didn't realise until this morning that the actual programme went out on 18 October but the ordure didn't hit the air conditioning until last weekend  TDD you're right that all the newspapers climbed on the bandwagon, but I think it was the DM that started it. You're also right in that the senior management at the BBC should have pulled the segment before it was broadcast and the Controller of BBC2, who is apparently very highly thought of by all who work for that channel, has resigned because that didn't happen. So that should be the end to the matter now. What worries me (and SuperMikey alludes to this) is that cutting edge comedy will be dumbed down or somehow castrated. That may not be such a problem if it means schoolboy pranks like this don't happen any more. It will be a problem if newspapers start forcing a situation whereby REAL cutting edge comedy / satire cannot be aired. One section of society controlling the media is very, very worrying.
  17. :-$ Let's hope lessons have been learned all round, eh? What I do find interesting is the low profile Andrew Sachs has kept, apart from the one interview he did in which, to me, he didn't really seem to be that upset. I'd like to be a fly on the wall in the Sachs family house, however. I'm very broadminded and don't really like censorship. But I did find Little Britain last night far more offensive than the reported answerphone messages to A Sachs.
  18. Didn't something similar happen to the guy who the MP for Eastleigh, many years ago?
  19. In Russian = Da In Greek = Ne However, in answer to the original question: In Russian = Net (or niet) In Greek = Ochi
  20. Also known as Devilled Eggs, I think you'll find.
  21. Mr TF occasionally introduces an egg into a curry, when he's making one.
  22. Looking at the pics you've posted, Pancake - I wonder how many of the same lemmings who complained would also complain about how the granddaughter looks? You lot on here won't think she offends, dressing like that, but lots of the blue-rinse brigade would.
  23. I'm sure we've had this discussion before - about announcements to the LSE. Didn't we establish that announcements only have to be made, for example: If existing shareholders buy more shares to take their holdings over 30% If an offer is actually put on the table or if there is a significant movement in share price based on speculation about an offer (as happened with the PA business) In other words, if there's no formal offer, there's no need for the club to make such an announcement. Maybe (as GM hinted at) it's a complex deal and other instruments have to be in place before a formal offer can be made. Or not...........
  24. Equally, people who get into the right hand lane at roundabouts and insist on taking the up coming left exit. And middle lane hoggers
