I've just boggled my mind completely reading the FL rules and I don't know that things are any clearer to me. I think a lot will hinge on whether, once the contract has expired and is not renewed, the player then becomes an unemployed player. Common sense tells me he would as he's out of contract. If th at's the case, then I think this regulation would apply: 59.1 Subject to Regulation 59.2 below, a Club may register a Player for a period of one (and, for the avoidance of doubt, not less than one) calendar month or more calendar months provided that the registration expires on or before 30 June following registration. 59.2 A Club may only register a Player in accordance with Regulation 59.1 (subject to the provisions of Regulation 41.5) during a Closed Period if he is an Unemployed Player. And then 59.6 On the expiry of a registration under this Regulation a Player is entitled to sign for any Club of his choice without restriction and without payment of any compensation. If so 56.2 A Club may only register a Non-Contract Player (subject to the provisions of Regulation 41.5) during a Closed Period if he is an Unemployed Player. See how confusing it is? Is a player out of contract an unemployed player?

Based on Hunt's views on the NHS as recently as 2009, I very much doubt it TBH.

Christ on a bike - don't let them donate their blood! Jeez!!!!!

This should clear up the confusion about month long contracts and player registrations. Me to the PFA: Subject: Player Registrations I am writing to you to ask you to clarify a point regarding player registrations. If a player is engaged on a month long contract, his registration has to be held by the engaging club. At the end of the month long contract, the engaging club may choose not to renew that contract. If the registration takes place before the close of the transfer window, it is being mooted that the club can continue to hold the registration and that this registration cannot be released until the opening of a subsequent transfer window. If this is righ,t does the club holding the registration but not renewing the contract still have to pay the player? If the club doesn't have to pay the player but, by holding on to the registration effectively stops that player playing elsewhere for another club and earning a wage , does that not become a case of 'restraint of trade'. If my understanding is correct, it seems to me that many clubs can exploit this loophole to the detriment of your members. I'd be grateful for your thoughts on this matter as to me, just a simple football fan, this seems grossly unfair. PFA reply: Reference your email. If a club does not offer a player further engagement at the conclusion of a monthly contract then the club cannot hold onto a player’s registration. If you require any further information on football regulations then these are obtainable on the Football League and Premier Leagues’ websites. Regards John So UnAppy is lying through his teeth

^^^ This - costs more but well worth it. I've had a Miele dishwasher and washing machine for 9 years and never had a moment's bother with either of them.

In 2009, the new Health Secretary co-authored a pamphlet (with Dan Hannan, as it happens) arguing for the NHS to be dismantled. http://eoin-clarke.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/jeremy-hunt-co-authored-book-in-2009.html

Probably his reward for not dropping Dave in the mire over Murdoch

One thing that occurs to me - and I stand to be corrected - is the rule regarding the number of registrations a club can hold. If UnAppy decides he's not going to renew a one month contract but, as he believes, he still holds onto the registration then surely he's shooting himself in the foot? If he's holding the maximum number of registrations allowed and then he doesn't use some of the players, he won't be able to bring anyone else in to replace them. Or have I got that spectacularly wrong?

Register with the Telephone Preference Service and then log the numbers with them. If they continue to call you then you can get them banned. Was thinking about you today, Jamie http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19473388

Consider it done

I think there are two crucial points. 1. Will they continue to pay these players all the time they hold their registrations? 2. Following on from this, if they DON'T pay these players whilst holding their registrations then surely they are denying these players the chance to earn a wage. I've said it before - I think that's 'restraint of trade' and this is illegal. I would have thought the PFA would be all over this like a rash.

I think her case hinges on the right (probably enshrined in contract as is usually the case with local government / NHS / Civil Service) to change the terms and conditions of employment. Also it seems she was previously working on a 'freelance basis' and this would, I think, afford her few employment rights.
-
And BA changed their code after she left work in protest at what was the code in force at the time. She returned to work after they changed the code and then decided to sue them for discrimination. So they didn't sack her and, in spite of losing her claim, she appealed - again unsuccessfully. Here are the backgrounds of all four cases http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19467554
-
No, she wasn't - but displaying the crucifix was against BA's code of dress. I was, of course, referring to the nurse also cited in the case as is clear from my reference to 'nurses'.

I think you're missing the point with your first sentence, Alpine. I don't think anyone would deny the right of anyone of faith to wear a symbol of that faith - provided it doesn't run counter to the uniform code of any organisation that employs that person. Someone has already posted that, for example, nurses shouldn't wear ANY form of jewellery apart from a wedding ring because of the risk to that nurse's safety or because of a potential compromise of infection control.

will be Jeremy Hunt. Be ready to pay Sky subscriptions for your 'free' healthcare

I did my back in shortly after the birth of my youngest daugter (bad backs can be a real issue for new mums because the bones in the pelvic girdle move and change such a lot). I too went to an osteopath (GPs are useless at muscular / skeletal issues IMO) and returned to ballet classes. Now I would imagine ballet classes would be a no-no for you but any sort of core stability exercise has to be good for you and, if you are overweight, losing weight, particularly in the stomach area, redresses any straining of the back. Pilates and Alexander Technique classes are also a good idea but, again, maybe a bit too girlie for you.

The one that says 'government procurement is beyond belief'.
-
As someone who has worked in government procurement (NHS) and who has audited government supply and construction contracts I can confidently say that your generalisation is far too sweeping.

He conveniently forgets that we get sh*t loads of money when we sell our players whereas they give theirs away lol. And we had 20K more attendance last weekend than they did. Oh and we get sh*t loads of TV money too.

WG the myth is that, somehow, the private sector isn't wasteful. That's just plain wrong. And to boot, the private sector is often hugely incompetent viz G4S, ATOS and the jobs placement firm whose name escapes me. Because they were 'providing' to the government, that also makes them very expensive and poor value for money for the tax payer.

OK I know nothing about cycling but these thoughts crossed my mind too. So I delved a bit and found out the information I posted above and also that the chains link one set of pedals to the other so I guess that means to some extent that the pilot can only go as fast as the stoker pedals. Also, because there are two of them, the bikes are heavier so I imagine that sort of evens out the load. And I think it's a team decision as to who pilots who because Barney Storey piloted the silver medalist this year whereas last year, at the worlds I think, he piloted the guy who won the gold medal yesterday.
