I went to ze Zentralstadion in Leipzig at the Herman's World Cup. Was rather odd to realise that after the tournament it would go back to hosting Sachsen Leipzig's games in the German Regional 4th Division!

I'd rather not be a club that expands their stadium/builds a new one when the good times are in full swing, only to then play to a half full ground for the rest of it's days. Oh....

There should be a salary cap outside the Premier League, it'd soon stop clubs from over-spending in a league where the clubs can't generate the revenue to line the pockets of very average players who think they deserve Prem wages. Only disadvanage would be the gap between the Premiership and the rest of English football. Sod it, salary cap the lot, worldwide, Blatter and Platini would love it.

Murty lives in Hook near Basingstoke, wouldn't need to uproot his family to join us. Would be a good captain in League One. I wouldn't be surprised to see him at Charlton though, after his loan spell there. That's if they still have Parkinson as manager though, giving it the ex-Reading connection.

I once worked for a company that went into administration, I went for 2 months without pay. The promise from the administrators was that if we stayed and kept the business running so it could be sold as a going concern, we would receive our unpaid wages from the new owners. The other option was voluntary redundancy. For those 2 months, I borrowed from friends and family to keep myself ticking over then paid them all back when, as the administrator promised, I was paid my owed wages. The fact that once I received my unpaid wages I then fooked off to another job is beside the point!

Anyone expecting a Sheikh or an Oilgarch to ride in on a white horse and throw silly amounts of cash at us is seriously deluded. We are now a League One club, the two interested parties sound like the sort of people we should be attracting. I'm of the opinion that this is great news that we actually have some serious interest in us.

sorting out the men from the boys...

Given how much youth was pushed this season, if any of the released lads were of a decent standard, they would have played some games. I expect most to go down the Josh Dutton-Black route, isn't he at Bognor now? -

What's Paul Williams up to these days? -
The team in 1998 were more than capable. Shearer and Sheringham were both still top-class strikers, Owen was a phenomenal young talent, Beckham was establishing himself, Ince was a brilliant central midfielder, Sol Campbell was also establishing himself well, Scholes was at his peak, Seaman was a solid keeper, Le Saux and Gary Neville were decent full-backs. It was no surprise that the likes of Neville, Beckham, Scholes and Sheringham went on to win the Champions League the season after with Utd.

(D Telegraph) League 1 need not be so bad...
oxfordshire_saint replied to .comsaint's topic in The Saints
In a twisted way, I am looking forward to visiting grounds like Swindon, Bristol Rovers, Carlisle (if they avoid the drop, makes a good excuse for a Lake District weekender), Stockport, Huddersfield, Leyton Orient and Walsall -
Anyone who mentioned Gasmi, he won't be here next season, his loan will finish and I very much doubt we'll renew it. I think he was only brought in to help Schneiderlin settle (ala Kleber Chala) and Schneiderlin is likely to be off too.

I can't blame Surman for wanting to leave, to be honest I think he's doing it a year too late. My main memories of him would be his goal against Derby in the playoffs at St Mary's (shame it was downhill from there in the playoffs!) and his lung-busting performance against Sheff Utd on the last day of last season. Reading would be a good move, as he could play to his strengths and be backed up by their more physical players, something we've lacked. He'd be of little use to us in League One as the game will be even more physical and more direct, it'd pass him by.

A pitch invasion should be an act of jubilation or relief (as per last season's last day!) We have nothing to be jubilant or relieved about.

I can see the point you were trying to make and agree with the sentiment, the guy shouldn't be anywhere near our club, but let's just say it could have been put a little more tactfully. I suggest if you wanted Mark Fry to take you seriously, an e-mail subject of "Gay Askham" probably wasn't the best approach.

The players owe us nothing less than two wins now, agreed?
oxfordshire_saint replied to Mr X's topic in The Saints
They owe us big-time. Too many have taken this club for a ride, they now have a duty to try and pull off the miracle and ensure we get the deduction off of this season's total. Sadly, I think the only thing motivating them will be the opportunity to put themselves in the shop window, rather than caring about the club. -

JP was a UEFA Cup winner, where did that get us? Ugly football is the way forward for next season, sign a load of nasty gits and power our way out of League 1.
-
Had to be Reading for me, I believe they were unbeaten at home at that point, we took a shedload of fans, outsung and outplayed them. Brilliant day out. That said, distance-wise, it was closer than a home match for me!
-
I'll be at the game, with my neutral brother in tow. I've dragged him to 7 Saints games and he's never seen us lose, he worked as a lucky charm on the final day last season, who knows, he might be useful again!

If you can only keep one ..
oxfordshire_saint replied to Sold To The Man @ The Bar's topic in The Saints
Sell the lot and buy a team of passionate bruisers for next season, players in a similar mould to Darren Moore and Steve Howard. Pretty football can take a backseat. People will hate us, but we'll win. -
I wouldn't write either off, both could do a job in League One. People are too quick to dismiss keepers, remember the stick Kelvin used to get? It's a confidence position and being made #1 next season would give that person confidence. As for which of the two of them I would choose, I would probably say Bart, he's got the physical attributes and I think he'd benefit from a regular run.

Although we hate the bloke, Kevin Phillips' belter at Leicester on the first day of the season one year has to be up there? For Beatts, I'd rather choose his 40 yard effort after a few seconds at Stamford Bridge once, or possibly his free-kick there one New Years Day? As for Fernandes, I'd have picked his free-kick vs West Ham at St Mary's which almost took the net off, or his goal at Old Trafford in the game where Forlan scored a cracking winner for Utd and then couldn't get his top back on. Also, what about Marsden against Ipswich!!!!!!!!!!!
