The statement from Vitesse could also be an attempt to publicise the 3rd party's interest to get them to back down & let the deal proceed?

To me, it reads like its something Buttner has signed up to since joining Vitesse, which entitles a 3rd party (probably his agent) to a fee, which Vitesse are not willing to pay as it didn't form part of their original arrangement. Saints are just caught in the middle, trying to sign the player. Unless this lad is particularly special, I say go elsewhere.

I think there's space for Deano still. Davis would appear to be ahead of him straight off but we will still need 4 central midfielders IMO; if Cork & Morgan were both unavailable we need proper back up and Deano would need to step up. If he kept his place when the others were back due to good form, so be it. No need to get rid. 4 decent centre mids for two starting berths - game on! Also, for some away games, I reckon we'll go for 3 in the middle to keep things tight & Deano's battling qualities may be better suited in this situation alongside 2 of the other 3?
