IFAB will no longer consider it an offence if an accidental handball leads to a team mate scoring a goal or having a goal-scoring opportunity. Let's hope the refs can understand that one.

McCarthy, no question.

Apart from Man City, the next few games are must wins against teams around us in the bottom third of the table. Saints are the only team in the league without a win in their last 5 matches. I keep my fixture and results sheets pinned up in the loo. It seems the best place for them at the moment.😪

You are spot on here. MOTD reckoned that Lee Mason spotted Johnstone out of position so that's why he blew his whistle but apparently it is not a rule that the goalie should be in the middle of the goal mouth. So the goal should have been allowed. Shouldn't a referee know this?! Mason shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a football match. Anyone can make mistakes but he made himself look a complete clown. In the papers this week there was an article saying that a referee's annual bonus will be decreased whenever they make an error. At this rate Lee Mason will end up owing the FA money, along with that other twerp, Mike Dean.

Anyone starting to look nervously at the table?

I would count that as a blessing at times. -
I do get annoyed when near the end of a game where we are either level or losing, McCarthy and the defence tippy tap around between themselves. Kick the damn thing up the pitch at this stage. What have you got to lose?

Pity the fans won't be able to give Lallana a warm welcome. 😄

If you can believe paper talk, he may be going to Sevilla next season in a player swap.

Quite an unpredictable side, Leeds Utd. I have watched a few of their matches. I suppose like most teams they are a work in progress but on their day they are a hard team to beat. Even when they are on the back foot they give it everything right up to the final whistle, so Saints don't need to get complacent. It will be a good game.

Tuchel didn't like Hudson-Odoi's body language and effort. Fair enough. Tuchel's his manager and needs to let him know the reason he was subbed but I personally don't like managers who announce opinions which should be discussed in private with the player, shouting about it to the media. Nobody responds very well to being bawled out in public. Mourinho did it with Luke Shaw and Paul Pogba and is now at it again with Delle Ali. I wonder if instead of motivating that player it has a negative effect and impacts on the relationship with his manager.

A draw between these 2 was the best result for Saints. -

I hope you flushed their heads down the loo! -

I'm not as worried as I have been other seasons. Our saving grace was doing well and winning points earlier in the season which has given us a bit of a cushion. -
On MOTD Ian Wright was incensed on our behalf at how the ref had awarded a penalty against Bertrand when he has his elbows tucked right in to his side but gives nothing when the Wolves player has his arms stuck out like a scarecrow! Ian Wright mentioned the number of referee howlers we have been on the receiving end of recently and said to give the Saints a break. Amen to that!

It is a good feeling, isn't it? This virus has turned our world upside down and it is very hard not knowing when we can get our lives back. We will get through this. In the meantime, you take care of yourself.

That's an image I will struggle to forget; being in bed with Mike Dean!🤪

Those who don't have any love for the game of football fail to see how those of us that do, get so flaming angry and worked up over officials like Mason & Dean . Death threats are taking things too far, there is no need for that but it is high time the FA made themselves useful and took action against these 'professional' referees. . Any official can make a wrong decision but I have a feeling that these 2 have their favourites in the Premier League and are happy to bend the rules accordingly. Red cards can be rescinded but many decisions have to stand. When the refs and VAR still get things wrong after a lengthy look at the incident it can have a big impact on teams who have unfairly lost points and is also wrong for teams who profit from points they ought not to have had. Those officials who consistently do it must be scrutinsed and kicked out if necessary. Question is, will the FA have the balls?

I must have watched a different game because Saints didn't take advantage of playing against 10 then 9 men and didn't do enough to win. Our fault.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Ings has changed. I wonder if he is eyeing the exit? I think he might be hoping for a move and one last chance at a bigger club than Saints. In the meantime, Southampton pay his wages so he should put all his efforts into playing well for this team, which we know he can do. He hasn't been sparkling recently.

Why his leg, try his neck.

Absolutely nothing. They are a closed shop, referees. I am pleased for Ralph and Bednarek that the red card has been overturned but it still annoys me that they scored from that 'penalty' and went on to score 2 more goals which I don't think they would have done had Bednarek still been on the pitch. In my mind we lost 6-0. Shame Martial (aka Tom Daley) can't get reprimanded for it.
-
Mike Dean - Can anyone remember him giving us a 50/50 decision ?
Sarnia Cherie replied to redkeith's topic in The Saints
I think it was a piece of thread hanging from his shirt sleeve that was offside. If the final decision on the Bednarek/Martial episode fell to Dean to make, it was never going to be in Saints favour. I sat through the entire match with my Man U loving son-in-law 😝and even he was saying Martial had dived. I told him Dean would award a penalty and a red card, purely because it's Saints and he's a spiteful little git. Sure enough................ -
Dean was bloody delighted to be given the opportunity to give Man U a penalty and brandish a 2nd red card for us. This waste of space should be nowhere near refereeing for the professional league. The FA should step in when a referee keeps on making the wrong decisions. I know some on here say we are mid-table, so why worry but just because we aren't in the drop zone doesn't make Dean's mistakes feel any better for me.
-
Dermot Gallagher has said on Ref Watch that although the first red card for Jankowitch was correct Dean's other decisions were wrong. Adam's goal should have stood. VAR kept moving the lines, I suppose until they found a shot where Adams was offside so their verdict is justified and the 2nd red for Bednarek was wrong as Martial was already falling (diving) and it is Martial's leg that touches Bednareks. If a referee consistently makes errors like this he should be kicked out. If I kept making mistakes in my job I would be shown the door.

I hate Ferguson who is commentating. He seems to think I am interested in how many years it is since Untired scored 5, 6, 7, 8. I don't. As for Mike Dean I knew he would give the penalty and red card. Right up his street.
