2nd or 3rd visit to the table now for cheese... https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1422913/Extinction-Rebellion-campaign-dairy-food-schools-racist-Brighton-Hove-City-Council

To be fair, he's probably trying to point out that vaccines haven't been able to prove their worth during lockdown when theoretically no-one is mixing to cause the transmissions. It's a pretty valid point he's making given the evidence from the first lockdown when there was no vaccine, yet the number of infections, hospitalisations and deaths reduced dramatically...

Didn't the article point out the slump in January was partly due to 'stockpiling' in December?
-
He also said 90% of discussions go over your head, so I guess you're happy with that stat as well
-
I know it's difficult for you to understand but that tweet was talking about the deadliness of the virus, not the contagiousness. Where have you got the 30-70% more contagious calculation from, not sure that's been mentioned before : https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/covid-variants-brazil-south-african-b1525-new-strain-uk-cases/ Study referred to in the article
-
Correct. Impact of covid %?

On the news they were claiming that the South Africa variant was brought in by an international traveller in February and has spread to a care home. Odd really since travel from South Africa has been banned since 24th December (although British nationals were allowed to travel but had to self isolate on arrival), since Febraury any arrivals would have had to spend time in a quarantine hotel. Looks like there are plenty of holes once again in our strategy for containing the virus!

Johnson & Johnson's turn now : https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-56733715 6 cases from 6.8 million doses! Pretty sure the virus kills more than 6 people for every 6.8 million infections doesn't it? And from those six blood clots, one has died and one is in critical condition...

Meanwhile, the news being reported by UK press says : https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-56729631

To be fair, they won't be driving far, Costas are like cockroaches! In Weston we currently have 5 with one more on its way, all within about 5 miles of each other!
-
Presumably that's the total for the entire country, which would equate to roughly 20% of the 2018 average for Heathrow arrivals alone... https://www.heathrow.com/company/about-heathrow/performance/airport-operations/traffic-statistics

Meanwhile, in France... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-56716708 Two and a half hours by train, that's what, London to Brighton on our railways

Definitely nothing to see here!!
-
If it is going to be an issue, it's only going to happen in a couple of weeks time when they open up international travel - I get that they want to introduce testing, isolations etc etc but I think we all know how succesful they will be! At the moment our international travel is barely happening - I can't remember the last time I saw a plane fly over from Bristol or Cardiff airports - but no doubt as soon as it opens up we'll start to see the SA variant, whether it's as damaging as the claims being made is something we'll have to wait and see....

Don't fret, I read it. The petition is basically suggesting Southampton FC should 'formally request' that the FA withdraw the England team from the world cup : Whilst it may be 'well intentioned' it is, quite frankly, doomed to failure. Not least because (right now) only 49 people have signed it which isn't exactly overwhelming support is it? But also, who in their right mind would think that 1. SFC is going to make such a request to the FA and 2. Even if they did pluck up the courage to do so, who on the planet would think that the FA would give a shiny shit about the request, 'formal' or otherwise?
-
Is that planned?
-
Money talks.

Ah, right. Makes perfect sense. You are happy for major world sporting events to go ahead in Russia and China despite their worse human rights records. On the other hand, you'll happily sign a petition to boycott the Qatar World Cup (that you were never going to attend anyway) in a grand gesture of virtue signalling. As ever, literaly nothing about you makes sense. (no doubt you'll now trot out your line about the corruption which awarded Qatar the finals in the first place, completely ignoring the fact that this happens every single time the World Cup finals are decided).
-
So what was your inference when you posted this? What exactly are the 'obvious faults' that you are happy to ignore when they are awarded these sporting events?
-
Perhaps it's passed you by, but the UK Government cannot change the laws of other countries. What we consider (in the UK and elsewhere) to be unacceptable practices, like slavery, poor working conditions, appalling health and safety etc etc, can be deemed perfectly reasonable in the countries that they take place.
-
Lol that you think China has a better human rights record than Qatar! Didn't see anyone protesting or boycotting the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and the protests and planned absences from the Beijing Winter Olympics of 2022 are suspiciously quiet...
-
Not sure you've truly understood the principles of 'carbon neutral', but that comes as no surprise.
-
Surely the boycotts and petitions should have happened years ago so as to avoid all those deaths - genuine boycott of the world cup = no point building all the stadiums! Isn't this just making sure the stable door is closed?
-
Yep, ALL flying is pointless and polluting and should be banned, oh wait, maybe there's an exception https://www.eurocontrol.int/news/playing-key-role-global-covid-19-vaccine-distribution
