What are they infecting the patients with - if they have symptoms, they isolate and don't come into contact with patients! You'd better have a word with Intisar Chowdhury as he seems pretty convinced it's the other way round.... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52453520

Greta hasn't been plastered all over the news.

Gotta love those Germans, always ahead of the game.... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-52439926 Face masks on sale in the market in where everyone can touch them, cough on them and make sure they get thoroughly infected! Slightly safer locked up in a vending machine away from those pesky germs, but hold on, the only way to get at them is to press the buttons - doubtful there's much in the way of hand wasing facilities in the U-Bahn.

Yes, but you asked why it was essential that the NHS wear masks, then answer is simply that they need to be protected (because of the work they do), more than Dave who works in the chippy....

They must've done it on a Sunday when he was putting his feet up

In hospital, the likelihood of someone having the virus is very high. The NHS wear masks (and other PPE) to protect themselves from infection - yes they will also wear masks during surgery etc to protect patients from germs / viruses they may shed, but on the 'frontline' the PPE is to protect them predominantly. That is different to Dave getting on the bus wearing a mask to protect other people from his potential virus, that he may or may not have....

The consesus of opinion seems to be that face masks should be worn to protect others. Given that those with symptoms should be isolating anyway, it would seem a no-brainer that no masks are needed.... However.... As has been stated, it is possible for the virus to be transmitted 2 to 3 days before symptoms appear and that people with no symptoms can transmit the virus. Therefore, the ONLY advice has to be that EVERYONE should wear a mask when they are not at home, if mask wearing becomes demanded. Given that will probably affect 50m people in the UK (not considering the rest of the world), and that masks should be changed when they become 'wet' - apparently this is approximately 60 minutes - then even by conservative estimations, you would be looking at 5 masks per person, per day. If only half the population were out - at school, uni, work etc - then that would be 125 million masks per day. That's just in the UK. A quick look at Amazon suggests that masks - even the basic ones - are retailing at about £1 each, which would cost about £25 per week, per person (assuming two days completely isolated in the house!). Does the UK have the capacity to produce 125 million masks per day - pretty sure we won't be getting too many from the manufacturing giants in China, Taiwan, Sri Lanka etc, not if the entire world is wanting them at the same time. Who is going to pay for them - if the Government does that would cost around £625 million per week! If it is down to the individual, how many would prefer to spend the £25 per week on fags and booze rather than masks?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/stories-51928077 Was it God that answered the prayer or science? If it was God, why did he/she take so long?

Looks like they've got a PPE shortage as well.

Isn't that what he was talking about when he was talking about the beams of light, amazing, strong, the strongest beams of light, being beamed into people's bodies, by actual medical scientists?

To be fair mate, you quoted him saying 'he didn't know' when you berated him for not saying 'he didn't know' - it was only 2 lines that you quoted! Not sure how the details could have got lost

But isn't your 'agnostic' option the same as the superposition in Shrodinger's cat - i.e. whether or not you have a goldfish is a superposition until it interacts with or is observed by the external world (open your door, go in your house and see whether you have a goldfish or not). Therefore, more information is needed in order to confirm one way or the other?

Don't UFOlogoists 'believe' in aliens as a result of evidence - perceived or real - that they have been exposed to, thus determining their knowledge of aliens?

Again, to be fair to MLG, his answer to that question is also consistent to the answer he has given about religion througout this thread, i.e. on that sentence alone, he doesn't have enough information / knowledge to formulate his belief. Can you truly answer this question : Do you believe my sister has won £88m on the lottery?
-
To be fair to MLG, he did say the 'he does not know that he has one'....
-
I believe that you have one. I just don't know whether it is dead or alive

So was May but she didn't come out of it particularly well!

No-one knows what you mean guv, it's the same club it's always been innit.

Where exactly have I stated I believe that. Pretty sure I've said I don't believe that to be an accurate figure. Thank you for finally answering the question.

Lol.

Ah, yes, a bit of personal abuse is way better than answering the question isn't it! Do you honestly think that even with a 'flattened curve', the moment that restrictions are lifted we will all go back to normal and can celebrate victory over the virus day? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51963486

I've already stated that 'locking down forever' isn't economically viable. Carrying on as before is clearly not an option as the NHS will be overwhelmed which will cause unnecessary deaths. The 'something else' can only be to lift the lockdown - at a certain point which will be determined by NHS capacity and rate of infection at the time (before you ask, that's not something I can answer!). It also means being prepared to put the lockdown back in place once infections start to rise again in order to 'flatten the curve' once more. That is of course in the absence of a vaccine / vaccination program, but that seems a way off yet. This would then need to be combined with antibody testing to ensure 'immunity' has been achieved (see previous discussions on 'herd' / 'community' immunity which needs in the region of 60% of the population to have been infected). However, there is currently some debate regarding whether or not a person can be 're-infected' having succesfully recovered from the virus, but nothing proven either way there at the moment.

It's not a simultaneous view, the two things are not mutually exclusive! To recap, I believe that yes, the Government are doing everything that they can (within reason, I accept they could put far more stringent measures in place but that would not be a reasonable response and would affect the economy to a far greater degree) in order to FLATTEN THE CURVE of infections and therefore REDUCE THE NUMBER OF HOSPITALISATIONS at this moment in time, in order that the NHS DOES NOT BECOME OVERWHELMED, thus reducing the number of incidental deaths that could potentially be caused if the NHS cannot cope with demand. At the same time I accept that MORE PEOPLE WILL DIE THAN WILL NORMALLY BE THE CASE in any given year. This is due to the potency of the virus and the affect it has on people with pre-existing medical issues and the subsequent increase in death rate. I'm not convinced of the 500,000 figure but I guess time will tell whether that is correct or not. With the current assertion that people can be infected more than once with the virus, this figure could potentially increase.
