https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-68167793 Arrived by lorry in 2016, convicted of sex offences in 2018 (sexual assualt / exposure) but granted asylum in 2020 or 2021 (no one seems to be sure). I guess religion wins again.

You lucked in sitting next to MLT's grandad! -
I realise the grave error and apologise for any misunderstanding caused.

Apologies. I should have added the caveat "figures are for illustration purposes only to give an answer to Badger's question about what sort of mortgage payment increases from £800 to £2000".

£500k at 1.9% = £9500 interest per year. Therefore £791 per month. £500k at 5% = £25000 interest per year. Therefore £2083 per month. This is calculated on interest only, so the number of years is irrelevant. As the rate goes up, so do the interest payments. A fixed rate of 1.9% was easily achievable 3 to 5 years ago. A rate of 5% is realistic right now. Hope that helps.

Rotherham 0-2 Saints - Match Thread

Don't be daft. In a world where it is not possible to be the better team and lose a match or the worst team on the pitch and still win, there is no such thing as 'luck'. In a 1-1 draw, both teams were equal. -
Fingers crossed.

A 500k mortgage moving from 1.9% fixed rate to 5% variable rate? Although with his £118,300 salary, that gives him a take home pay of £6,230 per month, so he should be able to afford the increase - or he has some expensive habits! That's before you take into consideration his lucrative expense account as an MP.

Phew. There was me thinking it could be a Brexit benefit. Glad to know it was an EU benefit after all. The current EU blockades must be coming our way soon then, maybe they're just delayed by paperwork crossing the channel?
