contracts mean nothing - it depends mainly on how much Morgan wants to go to any interested club - we all need to be realistic - if Arsenal come calling for him with the chance of champions league football - and a better chance of playing for his country - he may well be tempted. if he is determined to go - saints will then have to negotiate as high a fee as possible - or very unlikley - keeping him against his will. This is how it goes - Man UTD had to sell Ronaldo , arsenal had to sell RVP, and we may lose some of our better players this summer....

Im amazed that some on here want to get rid of AL. He is clearly a premiership player, and a great asset to our team. He has had one season in the PL , had a few injuries , but is clearly part of our future, hence his new long term contract, the club making him captain, and an England call up. Yes he can frustrating .....but very few players are brilliant every game , and those that are cost £80m +.
-
In the end , Im not sure whether i should thank Harry for his respective inputs to saints and pompey - looking at where both teams are now , perhaps it was one of the most cunning plans ever ....
-
I think its a confidence/ psychological thing - I remember under WGS, the cup final year -when we were playing well, we seemed to take a lot of points . United for example , always seem to score when they need to in last 5- 10 mins - its no doubt to do with the fact that they are confident that they will get the breakthrough and keep playing , we on the other hand dont have that same belief ..(yet).
-
and not keeping the ball in the corner in the final minute at harrys first home game ( i think) - he shot , they got possession and scored in the dying seconds......cost us 2 points, and started a succession of losing points in the last minutes of games
-
Whatever it is - it wont be dull for saints , we have had very few seasons where every point hasnt been vital ......relegation scraps were gut wrenching affairs, even when we were mid-table we were pushing for UEFA cup space, got to cup-final and enjoying punching above our weight, and then we had our descent down the leagues and the journney back again . Long may it continue to be exciting. I wouldnt swap what we have experienced over past 15 years , for being say an Aston villa fan - who havent as far as i can remember done anything of any interest at all.
-
and i wonder how that compares to other sides in top half of the championship ?
-
He does work hard for the team, watch him - he is 100% committed.
-
Id rather have lambert than £5m - he is integral to our team and its way of playing. Not saying he is worth more to other teams - but he is worth more to us.
-
my overriding memory of him is when he took the worst penalty kick i have ever seen - more of a back pass to their keeper. It was embarrassing.
-
really ???....ha has spent £400+ , and is prepared to lose all of that because of a £1 charge .....sure he might not like it ..but it is afterall £1, not even the price of a cup of coffee...what a strange set of priorities !

Plan A (if the money is there) will be to get promoted - it wont be to anything less.
-
Cortese will want a serious promotion challenge - he needs to back Adkins over the summer to get in the players he needs, anything less will not be consistent with the 5 yr plan.

No Ifs, No Buts, We Have To Win Tomorrow To Go 2nd!!!

This for me ........we usually do things the hard way, hoping we can take advantage, but fearful we wont. -
So, we may not need to win all of our remaining games - but any further slips ie Walsall away - could well make the difference, given that our rivals are not simply going to lay down and make this easy for us. It looks like we are going to have to put in a consistent level of results till the end of the season, wherby anything less than a win is liable to allow others to gain ground. Can they do it ? ( after years of watching saints, whilst rationally I think we will, experience has taught me that if we do, its likely to be the hard way....)
-
I enjoyed last season, was a real feel good factor at the club , and it was good to see us win games, win them in style, and win the JPT. This season however, i just want promotion out of here, nothing less will do. If we dont , we could be stuck here for some time ( assuming our better players will want out .....and who knows what happens to NC and his 5 year plan ........)

I think thats the point. We hardly got a glimpse of theo and bale before they were off. If AOC is good enough for top 4 then he will in time move, but January seems way to soon - he has hardly played a handful of games in league 1 . Would be nice to keep him for at least a season or two .
-
We are also 16 or so months into the 5 year plan, where as we were only 4 months into it this time last year. At this stage , it looks like we made enornmous progress with the first team in the first few months of the Cortese masterplan, but have not made much / any progress in the last 12 months. Hopefully Adkins has a few signings lined up and/or will get more out of the players than he has recently. But that is a hope, I dont see any real evidence of progress year on year, and in fact was more confident of promotion this time last year than i am now.

And that is more about the disappointing style of play than results. I think he's a good manager and will get us promoted this year. But I was led to believe that Adkins was a purist who got his teams playing high-tempo, passing football. But time and again I've seen disappointing performances where we've hoofed long, high 'passes' to a 6'3" striker who, this season, doesn't appear to be able to win a header or hold the ball up. This. When Adkins arrived there seemed to be an attempt to play crisp quick passing game with the ball on the deck, and Ricky being pushed forward as the apex. We are now playing at a much slower tempo, and as a result opposing teams seem to find it easier to defend against us , and in desperation we pump a long high ball towards Ricky, who even if he wins it , doesnt seem to have support close enough to benefit from it. So for me Adkins startted very well, but at this point in time im not quite sure what style of play he asking the team to adopt - it seems we have , maybe temporarily, lost our way......

bringing through the talent - and keeping it
Harry Faz replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Saints
really ? that would suprise me. He looks stronger, and has a better touch than Theo ....but doesnt 'look' as fast. -
he ( not the bbc journalist) says he still wants to play for saints - not saying it will happen - but he seems to believe there is a possibility it might. So not sure the club see him as an outsider.
-
Was suprised he still hopes to play for Saints - assume that means we have left the door open for him if he can prove his fitness ?
-
which all begs the question as to why he didnt stay with us - I think he was a valuable member of the squad, not necessarily first 11 - but was a real impact sub. Who knows how he would have played yesterday if we had ben able to bring him on for the last 30 mins? On a good night, he would have added the energy and direct running which AOC didnt have yeterday, and his worst he would have been offside 5 times . I personally thought he got better for us as the season went on - and is still a big miss.
-
agree - im hoping the chaplow deal is done and signed .....just waiting to be dated when the window opens ! He is becoming a key member of the team , for me at the moment its chaplow + 1 of MS and DH in the centre. Would be a big loss if he didnt at least finnish the season with us.
