I'd have taken a point before the start. We were commited enough. But we lack the finishing and creative touches we've always needed. We were mostly taking advantage of attackingplay, rather than controlling it, leading to some scrappy chances. But we did have good ones, as the game opened up and just fell short. Lots of positives today, and Selles will jhave seen plenty to improve on. I'd rather look at it that way, and that we are still in touch, rather than failing to take a lead against 10 men. Man Utd continue to be full of men children. Hard to wish them any kind of European or domestic success with players like that.

Did they give Fernandez the armband, so his constant whining didn;t result in a red card every game. What a clown.

I'd think Selles will be reminding them that they are better than the issues that gave them so many problems against 10 men last time. Hopefully, that has steeled them into not being so fragile today. I hope we can take advantage in the second half. We had a couple of chances - walcott, sulemana, JWP always a free kick threat. But Baz also had a decent half keeping them out. They are a threat with 10. So, we can;t get too overstretched. But we will have to keep the determination we showed in the first 45, and look to exploit any space they give us. We've seen Adams do that with Alcaraz before, so hopefully it will be something like that again.

Safe in this new land, Turkish decides to connect with the community, by taking in a match. Settled in the terrace, he hears a familiar voice behind him. "Oh nice. Lovely. Good to see front footed new supporters. I'm the manager. My name's Nathan." Tune in next week, for Turkish in Dublin. 🙂 -
With a bit of luck, it will lower the amount he gets from us, as a payoff, when he takes over a new club. Rasmus probably worried over that being Man City or Chelsea, but Oxford will work just as well.

Saints 1-0 Leicester - Match Thread

I did go on to qualify that as being better than other options for the same place in the team, with a couple of examples. 🙂 It's not as though I'm offering Moi up as being a secret Saints weapon and underrated genius. 🙂 Just that for the tactic Selles (and predecessors play) he offers more across the game than others in the squad, making him more useful than them for a lot of situations. Which is why we see him play so often. -

No, a low block is what you need to fix a wobbly tactics board or an uneven chair in the club canteen. If you were to use a mid block, the other parts would be wobbly. 🙂

Some passing thoughts... AA offers work rate and closing down. He's often the best in any press, harrasses like Long did, and tracks back. Moi is a link between a midfield that can;t string apsses togetehr and an attack that has already dropped back almost behind him, and isn;t very effective. Agian, it's workrate and positioning the opponents to stop their momentum. Bedders offers international standard pointing, while not taking up any of the vulnerable poistions he's pointing out himself. Possibly keeps Baz's flapping down to what we saw. There were others shanking the ball and losing possession a lot more than he was today. He wasn't put under to much personal pressure and we had dropped deep enough where pace was brought into play. They ahd lots of free headers, so would need to rewatch them to see where he, and others, should have been. But generally looked a fairly solid performance by his standards (such as they are) It's not a tactic I like to watch, and all of them have limitations (fairly noticable ones), some of which that tactic helps shine a light on. But they are better than a lot of the other options in our squad. Not in all situations, but across more areas than the others. For example, you could play Edozie. He will look to attack his opponent. But that's not going to work often, we don't have attackers waiting often on him getting apst anyone, and if he loses it, we're under pressure. Ely offers a bit more solidity, if less flair there. Sulemana offers pace and width, but in a narrow tactic and he tired and didn;t press as effectivly as the game went on. Ely again offers a broader range of things. SDo, he might not start, but is useful. Like AA. Bella-Kotchap and Salisu's form waver a bit, and I'm not sure what's going on with DCC. I can see why the manager would prefer Bednerak to Lyanco. -

Haivng seen Baz come out and flap at that last chance again. Does he put their player off? Had he not at least come out for a flap, would they have had another free header that could have gone right in. Should he have always got something on it, when coming out, or is that harsh? -

Selles:- Lots to improve on. Work on the performance. Lucky with that last one. Working as a unit and a group. Will be putting it to him, regarding Alcaraz celebrations. Looking for the penetration in that central position, on Alcaraz. Adams managign the game and calmness pluses and great for us. expect to continue working,a dn to be better in some aspects. Will look to win at Old Trafford. -
