Jenrick was the one I heard with policies, while she seemed to have a bit of handwaving, continuing attacks on some topics, and fluffy things about change from previous errors. She's going to need to attract more than the reform side to stand a chance.

Saints playing as badly as they ever have
Holmes_and_Watson replied to Andrew Watson's topic in The Saints
Yeah. We have the possession. We have spells where we are in control, looking for attacks. But we inevitably can't move teams and create chances frequently enough. So we look like a flat team, who always have at least 1 goal to give away. -
Cripes! Trousers is a pawn of the Reptilians who want to change Earth's environment to what they prefer to live in! Sorry Kraken. Couldn't get MLG, so had to settle for MLT for the above.

Saints playing as badly as they ever have

Yeah. The system is about control through possession. The players are instructed to create movement and chances on that basis. Sure, gaps in opponents lines will be where we create that movement. However, the team won't risk the system basics to hunt opponents down or be more open against a faltering defence. -
Like the Puerto Rica and garbage comments, there's been some attempt to be outraged by this. But there was plenty of context, picked up by more reasoned news sources, to show this as a sign of Trump's isolationism/ protection of the use of US Forces. In reality, the US defence industry is not going to want to go into decline. So possibly a Trump tenure with less direct US involvement, but one that's happy to sell lots of toys to nations that will be filling in the gaps.

He has that optimism of someone who knows he has built the steps towards a successful outcome that is now tantalisingly close. He can see it, the players have worked towards it and the board are comfortable with the progress. Such a good time to see the journey unfold.

Saints playing as badly as they ever have
Holmes_and_Watson replied to Andrew Watson's topic in The Saints
Not the worst. Up there with the most ineffective in the PL, but Nate and Selles' tenure there too. It is a system designed not to let momentum increase risk, making it probably the most frustrating when it isn't working. -
Derry's pretty much nailed this. BBD gets goals in teams with a far more open game. He's further up, and running at defenders in a little bit of space. He can come in from a little wider, but has not been spending his career hugging a touchline. In a passing system, allowing opponents to reset and moves to be generated from deep, he is utterly wasted. Archer, BBD, TP and AA all offer different things. None of them best suit Martin's system, and all suffer in it as strikers.
-
This will not happen. Martin has always said he will not change. Let's see how "close" we are and how much we "enjoy" tomorrow.
-
The "close" comments were exactly what was said by our last few managers. Martin has been chippy on that sort of thing, because he doesn't realise it's all been heard before.

Breaking news... Southampton fans seen over Europe hoisting grand pianos above the doorways of successful managers. 🙂

I didn't know that. I hope someone tells Russ.

I caught some of Harris's speech in front of the White House. Impressive setting, but you're right that Hi Viz Don is front of the news I've seen today. Harris's team wary of leaving openings in any interview, let alone one lasting 3 hours. Trump isn't worried about that and Vance would be fine there too. It just connects Trump to voters and adds to the remoteness of the politicians Trump complains about. Looking forward to them both on a zipwire tomorrow.

Every one of those touted as the next best thing by the same people I heard say the same about Martin and Jones.

The Starmer Years - Can The New Broom Sweep Clean?

Something...deep state...something... 🙂 -
Fooled Dragan too, to put up the money.

And in high Viz too! #manofthepeople Nice to see a bit of balance. Sadly, it's the nature of things that one side will leap on any slip from the other, and run with it as far as possible. The roast comedy point was worth hearing too. Always takes me by surprise, as it's not my kind of thing. Trump: Warm up act with a history of that, and who and libbed on the night. Biden: Stumbling through the sentences leading up to his comment.
-
I'd no memory of that either. "The decision was ratified by the FA Council in January 1981 and two of the last red cards, for the time being, were shown to David Hodgson and Nicky Reid in a game between Manchester City and Middlesbrough." I clearly have Panini memory, with the stickers of Reid and Hodgson I'm immediately appearing when I read that. 🙂

Some 80 odd million non voters out there. I've read a few things suggesting that Trump's name recognition and style has caused some worrying on the other side, as he can pick up voters more easily. A fair bit of that was for unregistered voters though. Like the Puerto Rica comments, all it takes is for someone having an emotive response close to the day from something really horrible.

I still think they got interested when RalphBall was going well, they heard about the playbook, and knew Gao wasn't investing and looking for a sale. They thought that they could come in, implement their ideas of getting on the cusp players from elite clubs, with some Brentford like signings and thrive in the PL. They hadn't paid enough attention to when RalphBall went wrong, and even with best of intentions, haven't done at all well in dealing with much since.
-
I doubt we'll see the best of either of them in RM's system. Not to mention the bit parts they've had as opportunities. Both decent purchases though. Nathan was out of his depth. Perhaps time away finding out the training and development plans of elite clubs, then applying those to his approach on a club our size would have worked. He said he was data driven, so then he could have seen the improvements across the squad. Even then, I remember Stu coming on, and having to turn and ask what was expected of him in a game that had already seen a few system changes.
-
It's hard to imagine SR actually being so invested in/aligned to RM's approach and a 10 year plan (possibly following it), that they wouldn't make the changes if we get well beaten in the next 2. They were supposedly invested in Ralph's system and had looked at Nathan over a long period before bringing him in. They could follow a Brighton data approach. Where they could see where they needed to improve, and work on that confident the results would come. Martin will no doubt have pointed out finishing (note: from not many chances) and individual errors (note:within his system). The large squad, recruitment and resources will have played their part on expectations too. Having gone through managers to get to here, are they wanting to follow another cycle of it? Do they really have confidence their hiring approach is going to keep us in the PL this time, when it's not worked at all so far

Edozie did actually score a few last season, the same number of league goals as Fraser I think. Fraser made an immediate impact when we got him. He's experienced and I had no issues with the deal bringing him here, even as that impact faded a bit as he fell into our system. Sule was frozen out. Showed some pace but no end product. Even less than Sam. BBD is wasted out there. Cornet is better than what we saw against Stoke. He's very match rusty, and his own reactions showed that. He wasn't happy how it went any more than we were. But Sam offered more. Presumably AA and Dibling are other options out there too. I thought Sam was improving this season, and was looking forward to seeing more of him. All of them, like our other attackers, suffer with the system. We try to move teams around from such deep positions that attackers have a lot of work to do as a unit to get any chances. Stoke played compact and narrow, allowing AA some freedom on the right. Others are less narrow, but compact and we struggle to get anything going from our passing across our back line. Before he left, Sam was trying a number of different things, often having to wait for support. With our bloated squad and struggling results, a season away will hopefully get him more game time. He can use the things he's developed under Martin with his own strengths. We should get a better player back.
