Wigan 2-2 SAINTS /// Post-Match Reactions
Frank's cousin replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
This - anyone who cant see how this side has come on in tehlast few weeks is missing something - teh speed of pressing, and attack is impressive - yes we still need to work on defending set pieces, but this is starting to p;lay to its potential, even if teh results are not coming quite yet, we will need around 15-16 points form 13 games - I think that is more than doable if we play like this. I think there is a reason for first half not being so hot - a ploy to conserve energy for second half and press higher up and atack at pace - dangerous, but clear how second half we have far more energy and pace - even against Utd... think teh direction is right and results WILL come. -
Phew.... Oh well- we deserved a win - one stupid error...

Cycle ride - Southampton to Sunderland - Last away game
Frank's cousin replied to Dr Who?'s topic in The Saints
Aye... I remember the pain ...especially tht 4th day from Luton to Reading through the Chilterns - against the wind - also worth pointing out that although the road route was 350 miles - the actual ride was closer to 500 as we could not really safely use dual carriage ways etc and tried to avoid trunk roads. I would be up for trying it again at some point, and like the OP's enthusiasm - but as you rightly recall, it took us months to sort out and the support van is a must... also got to get your bikes back etc, spares, luggage - van was also great to show sponsor logos etc... Dr Who - If you ant to do this, which is great 3 months will be tricky, unless its just a couple of you. -
Sorry Disagree - I worked in magazine publishing for some time and Audit Bureau of Circlation (ABC) figure is industry standard - and yes its used to determine advertising rates, but its based on a combination of actual subscrition numbers + actual shop sales and does not include copie read by more than one of glance at. As to power the 'think they wield' - As distasteful as it is that one paper CAN influence so many especially politically, to underestimate that is naive....

... Clear that best guess is that if the Trsust do takeover, even if teh 'book' is not thrown at them they will satrt L2 with -10 points with debt: the council loan, the football creditors and possibly to some of the HNWIs if not all is converted to equity - the key point for them will be ensuring that the TOTAL they owe is less than 5mil - which was stipulated by the FL as the max that could be carried forward into the new club - I guess though that they could in theory go 5mil + the council loan as that would not be carried over debt, but new debt I would speculate they will owe inexcess of 4-5 mil when starting out...in L2 ...on -10 Now that is a HUGE burden in that league and would mean very stricht spending controls - its not about gates being higher than L2 average, even if they achieve that, as their debt burden would counter any advnatge that gave - they will struggle in L2 if they try and keep finances in order.... BetterIMH|O had they chosen the Pheonix route

NC is being extremely clever if the Sun is the choice for the main 'club' interaction. It may not be my paper of choice, due to its sensationalist 'news' and celeb gossip facination, political perspectives etc, but it wealds a lot of influence whether you like it or not. That 7mil readership is often dominated by those whose opinion is influenced by the paper, and whilst its easy to dismiss them as fickle as a result, the social significance of the paper should not be underestimated - kind of like Pravda - it is a propoganda machine, but rather than driven by the Government agenda, is driven by its own and whichever party it is currently getting an advantage from... NC recognises that power . Think NC will always have a problem with the media in this country - Its simply different to what he would have been used to in Switzerland. The intrusion, levels of speculation and interest, especially since getting back to the prem is way beyond anything he will have seen before, and around the business side of things will be wholley unwelcomed - he needs to get a grip of that if he wants to ensure we get a more positive spin on the actions he is taking to drive his plan forward - because whether he cares about how we are portrayed in the media or not, the fans do, as witnessed by the 'concern' shown on here when we get bad press etc... important thy get that part right really and demonstrate effective communication that is not simply dismissed as propoganda, but insight and balanced critique. And although the main content is predictable sheidt gossip facination, the sport and football coverage is pretty comprehensive and can be a good read if wearing your 'sensationalist nonsense' filtering glasses.

Is the January transfer window a waste of time?
Frank's cousin replied to lordswoodsaints's topic in The Saints
All clubs sell players - even Man Utd selling Ronaldo etc.... As you go UP the food cahin, there are simply less clubs more attactive to players, and the price goes up - thats all, all this selling club, not selling club is BS. But Wes is right in that we no longer need to sell players periodically to balance the books - but given the modern greed in the game fuelled by agents and the 'want it now' culture, if someone comes along offering a huge pay rise for young players happy to sit on the bench at a 'bigger' club, then they will be sold before they are worth nothing and leave on a free at the ned of tehir contracts... crapy business, but teh players have the ultimate control, not the clubs. -
Is the January transfer window a waste of time?
Frank's cousin replied to lordswoodsaints's topic in The Saints
Exactly this - IMHO all transfer conducted close season only and if a club sack a manager mid term, they can only be replaced from within the existing coaching set up at the club... would ensure richer clubs can not buy their way out of trouble and stops pooer ones risking all in a despearte attempt to avoid it... but this is far too much common sense for football.. -

The football creditors from the first admin will have been paid .... I think.... but cant be sure, think this would have been paid out by the parachutes etc... but nothing to the unsecured from the first admin no...

although was hoping for a little more than that.

Ok... I like most astute posters on here will be strugggling with the maths of the bid... can someone with more insight amend the below to reflect their current financial situation? 1. Current bank balance? Must be running at a loss if HNWIs are funding the club.. but recent cost cutting may have helped 2. Current liabilities: a) 68 mil in debt which has been diluted down to approximately the following: - 500k to unsecured creditors from the the first CVA.... - ?k to unsecured creditors from second admin - 8mil to football creditors - 3 mil to Kanu - ongoing ? - ? k Current unpaid Administrator fees - 2mil floating charge to Chinney - 18 mil charge by Chinney? - or 2.75mil for the ground - additional legal bills for ongoing cour case between PFK and Portpin Anything missed? 3. Current assets - feck all - OK Fortress fat pipes - value? - 4 mil parachute paymnets remaining - Trust - approx 1mil in escrow OK... couple of points. Assuming they win the courtcase and can buy Fratton for 2.75 mil - and have the cash to pay the additional 2 mil floating charge and thus Chinney walks away with 4.75 mil in cash. 1. The Trust budget - how does it intend to pay back the 8mil to football creditors - given that PFK fees and running costs will eat up that last 4 mil parachute...in theory? 2. Will they by pass the Kanu issue if they set up a new co as Kanu's contract is with current PFC 2010 Ltd? 3. How much equity will the fans have (well not equity as they will not get their money back as they cant sell their share, but you know what I mean) versus the HNWIs who will be converting their loans for running the club and covering the court fees into equity on top of the 'cash' they are providing for the purchase? 4. So how much cash to the Trust need up front to seal the deal? Do they need to cover the full football creditors in one hit up front? Cant see this happening - so they will start their tenure in debt to the football creditors, the council (if that loan is needed) and possibly 'another source', with Kanu's debt outstanding... yet the FL have stated a Max of 5 mil can be carried forward to New Co.... So what have I got wrong? Starting live in L2 with possibly as much as 5mil debt, -10 points and the fans 'owning' about 20% of the the club.... sorry but with the best will in the world, liquidation and new start with 1 mil in the bank and 100% fan ownership seems preferable to anyone apart from those clowns desperate to hang on to their 'illustrious' history - deluded into believing that in future folks will only remember PFC for the two titles and cup win.... as opposed to a club that wrote off 150mil of debt and riddled with financial meltdowns....

Fergie says "Southampton are best team to play here all season"
Frank's cousin replied to Forester's topic in The Saints
I;ll classically sit on the fence on this one.... He could not really say much else as we dominated the second half, and as Cabrone says, although its 'nice' to hear, much rather he was his miserable fecker self after a defeat at our hands. A defeat is still a defeat no matter how well we play, and we need points - that said, to play that well shows we are better than our current position IMHO and that is what is dissapointing more than anything else. It also shows we have the quality to compete... but as with all sides nearer the bottom, its about playing to that level consistently. If MP can get us to show the level of the second half performanace throughout th remaining part of the season we will get points... -
Of course there were differences between the way MP did things yesterday and the the way we have seen NA do things in the past... BUT FFS, that is normal they are two differnt people... NA gave a huge amount to this club and the way we play is testament to his influence and hard work - we CAN acknowledge that and be appreciative of it AND at the SAME time recognise that MP also has something to add that can BUILD on what NA did... why the need to constantly compare to prove pathetic points ... jeez...
