  1. Why was the Pompey fan so happy after completing his jigsaw in 6 months...? ... Because on the box it said 3-4 years. I thank you!
  2. William Hill now quoting Portsmouth as Evens Favorites for relegation from L1. http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/league-1/relegation
  3. I don't agree with the analogy stated at all. When I worked at Manchester 2002 we had numerous situations of "under cover journalists" attempting to prove things were not ready or right. Most of them were mercenary freelancers attempting to create sensationalism in order to sell stories to the tabloids. However, I accept that G4S have been very poor given they had a £300m contract to provide a security service.
  4. So G4S admits it has screwed up 16 days before the Games. On a £300m contract. Big questions to be asked.
  5. Unless a new bidder turns up from somewhere who is prepared to spend about £16m to clear the debts and start afresh... which looks far more attractive than it did two days ago.
  6. The footballing debt would appear to be about £10m and the secured debt £1m (after the CVA write downs). The outstanding PP money is £14m. So Chainrai has to decide whether to push on for £3m at present which will reduce as ongoing costs occur or wait for liquidation and claim security (i.e. ownership) over Fratton Park. I think that's right. Any other views?
  7. Might have a couple of glasses of wine tonight! -)
  8. Interesting article about food labelling on the BBC site at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-18767425 I prefer the traffic light system to GDAs but a big problem with both is that companies attempt to say 1/2 a can or 100g of this product has the following stats, knowing full well that those are small portions in the first place. Any views?
  9. Excellent. Kanu's tied up a few of the disputed millions there which means less ready cash for the club. Maybe his actions to register a complaint and claim against Pompey will open the floodgates!!
  10. I don't understand why Radio 1 is financed by the licence payer. There's no justification at all. It offers a valuable forum to the pop music industry for free and provides nothing much of any substance to the listener. Yep, I'm feeling grumpy!
  11. As no one seems to be prepared to give up the PP money at stake, despite the debts rising and court costs looming, it's great for the nutjobs on this thread - a PFC - a Perfect *****ing Cyclone - with days for it to hit in full force!
  12. I don't think Scudamore's evidence clears anything up. It just states that the money is available. Those seeking the £14m PPs still include BC, other clubs who are owed, all the Pompey players and any other football creditor (including PKF). I'd guess that's sure to go to court one way or another. The question is whether PKF will continue to guarantee the existing PFC at their own risk if BC and/or the PST refuse to cover the CVA or can't cover the CVA.
  13. Preumably another big "I am" who is now another struggling "I blew it by being a knob".
  14. Europc looks like a good place to check out. I will add Aria to that http://www.aria.co.uk/ as they often have last season's kit at discount. They have high spec stuff also.
  15. Yes, can I add my good wishes Whitey. I enjoy your comments on here so don't go and pop your clogs on us!
  16. Write back to Nigel at nigel@loopynuts.org
  17. You can walk into any decent sports shop like Holt & Haskell in Shirley High Street and buy a team kit for about £300. Including the goalie shirt and gloves!
  18. As an employee at the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games I know that the beneficial legacy to the city goes on and on. Admittedly far smaller than the Olympics, Manchester 2002 delivered world class sporting facilities to the city that are still being built on in many ways. For example, the stadium is now Man City's ground and they, the council and other private funders continue to develop the previously deprived surrounding areas with new sporting facilities, known as Sportcity. Sportcity includes various sporting facilities such as top athletics, squash and badminton centres as well as the velodrome. The velodrome is the single reason that British track cycling has been such a success, sweeping the medals at Beijing in 2008. As well as those sporting facilities, Manchester 2002 facilitated the knock down of a huge area of old slum housing which has been replaced by new affordable housing built under the New East Manchester project that has re-invigorated an area that was pretty desperate beforehand. On a wider scale, M2002 was the catalyst for total overhaul of Manchester Piccadilly railway station (a gateway to the city from London), and a prime mover for upgrading of the West Coast Main Line infrastructure from Euston as well as enabling the introduction of Pendolinos that allow people to travel in relative good standard class comfort between Manchester and London in just over 2 hours, rather than the 3 hours plus that was the previous case. That is huge for business and internal investment into Manchester. M2002 was the spur for the expansion of the fledgling metrolink tram system which is now in the process of tripling its original reach and size enabling easy, comfortable and safe commuting into the city centre from suburbs such as Bury and Rochdale in the north and Chorlton and Sale in the south. The expansion is ongoing - the Oldham link has just opened and a line to Manchester Airport is under construction. The BBC's new and bespoke HQ at Salford Quays is served by a brand new metrolink extension. M2002 gave investors the confidence to build a second runway at Manchester Airport which has enabled far more passengers and businessmen easy access to the city boosting the local economy. Hotels were built for the occasion that still thrive and many companies have relocated or set up Manchester offices also. Big employing incomers include Siemens and RBS for example. Marquee retailers such as Harvey Nicholls and Selfridges have opened up successful stores as a direct result also. The derelict canals and warehousing that pervaded the city centre from WWII to 2000 have been transformed into chic retail centres with social hubs and desirable city living accommodation. The number of people who live in the city centre has risen from less than 5,000 in 1995 to over 30,000 in 2010. The numbers of students studying at Manchester's now combined university has soared with a huge influx of intelligent and well-heeled young people from China, the Middle East and elsewhere opting to choose Manchester University as their choice of education. In itself, that has enabled the university to expand and offer further unique and cutting edge facilities to new students as well as to business, industry and governmental interests from BP to NASA. The legacy that M2002 gave to Manchester is gigantic. I would expect the same to occur for East London from London 2012. There is no price that can be put on the ongoing and lasting gains that London will get from the Olympics.
  19. I love the photo of Appy in the latest Portsmouth News article. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/po...plea-1-4018581 "Doh! I can't sign anyone." They are so screwed over the next 20 days. Pre-season will be a shambles, players won't leave as they would have done so by now if so inclined, CVA will not progress unless CB takes a haircut.

    Go Compare ads

Whether you like or despise the adverts for insurance broadcast by Go Compare, Compare the Market or Confused.com, the simple fact is they are spending hundreds of thousands of money on the adverts which is passed on to the consumer. So out of principle I refuse to buy insurance from any insurance company that saturates TV with its adverts directly or is associated with a company that does the same.
  21. Also, as of 1 July the monthly stipend of £200,000 that Pompey receives as a Championship club is reduced to £65,000 a month. So they won't be able to cover the existing reduced wages!
  22. Osborne caving in to populism, not always the right thing to do but it appears he has no spine when it comes to principles or policy that is better for the long term.
  23. Mokoena joins TBH and Kanu in pay-off stalemate. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-past/pompey-administrator-frustrated-by-mokoena-stalemate-1-3986168 Birch says club will be liquidated if they don't accept compromise pay-offs. So he's using the public moral blackmail approach again.
  24. Having considered all advice, I bought two additional shirts that appeared similar in spec and price - one from Charles Tyrwhitt and one from TM Lewin. The result: * Charles Tyrwhitt is better quality cotton fabric * TM Lewin is easier to iron as thinner So take your choices. I'll struggle with the iron and pick Charles Tyrwhitt.
  25. I loved the episode where they uncovered that amazing Roman villa.
