None were as good as Archers in the first half though. They had a number of half chances, but that was it. I'd have expected them to be a couple up, maybe 2-1 or 3-1 at half time.

He speaks out both sides of his mouth too often, that's his issue. Spent the last 6 months saying we're not planning to be a yo-yo club, then describes a yo-yo club strategy as what we're doing. Never offers his own ideas, just criticises others for having opinions as his hyenas follow him, eating the shit that falls out of both sides of his mouth. Hope you're well Nick 👍

TBF Brighton had an expected goals of 1.67 for the whole game, so not sure we should have been 5 down is quite right. We could have been, but that would have been quite an anomaly.

I also thought when we sacked Ralph we couldn't do any worse. Was massively wrong then.

So, you don't know anything about Potter's football style then - it's very similar to Russ's, possession based and maybe even slightly more defensive. His team's don't score many goals, but tend to defend quite well. The football is not exciting. By the time he left the Brighton fans were soooo happy he was out. No idea why he is rated as highly as he is tbh. Just found this nugget online about him as well - remind you of anyone: "Player selection Potter prefers players who are brave, enjoy football, and aren't afraid to make mistakes." Good article on him below, and his time at Brighton: https://analyticsfc.co.uk/blog/2022/09/20/data-in-context-how-did-graham-potters-brighton-achieve-a-big-six-style-of-play-with-a-bottom-six-budget/ "The first and clearest difference that can be seen in Brighton’s first two PL season’s under Hughton, compared to the subsequent seasons under Potter, is their directness, featured on the bottom axis in green, measured by their total passes per sequence (PPS – a sequence defined as events from gain of possession until loss of possession, stoppage in play, or a shot). On this axis there is a very clear difference between Hughton’s very direct Brighton and Potter’s. Brighton’s early sides appear alongside the likes of Burnley, Everton, Newcastle, and Watford, all sides that looked for fast attacking transitions to exploit space behind an opposition when gaining possession in the 2021/22 season. After their managerial change Brighton transitioned incredibly quickly to their new style, becoming far more patient and less direct. In their first season under the new manager, The Seagulls put together 11.9 passes per sequence, the third highest in the dataset after possession-heavy sides Manchester City and Liverpool. "

I hate it when people repeat themselves constantly...

Yeah, Villa fan mate of mine said he was quite worried looking at how we played last night and against Liverpool.
-
I know we did - I'm not the saying we didn't lose. What I said was without those mistakes we could have won. Not sure what is so controversial about that statement.

True story
-
We made 3 very, very poor mistakes. We should have had at least a point, and we could have beaten them, for sure, if it weren't for the piss poor defensive mistakes we made.
-
Yes we are, we are the worst team in the PL, as we were predicted to be by pretty much every media outlet and every pundit in the country at the beginning of the season. It wasn't a bore fest last night though.
-
Lumley did OK as well - feel far better with him in goal than Macca.
-
So, re-watching the game from last night. Looks like we're playing a back 4 with shoehorn shoehorned in as a defensive mid in front of the back 4. Then when we have the ball we transition into a back 3 with him falling back into defence and Suga and Manning pushing up. BTW, considering how shit he is defensively, Manning's ball's in can be brilliant. Quite funny that we'd prefer to have KWP at CB than Stephens.

It's not going to happen, anytime soon, especially with the way we've played in the last 2 games.
-
It's not even all the passing out, it's just being pragmatic and knowing when to pass out.
-
Yep, and we scored 2. 1 less piss poor mistake from the 3 we made and we've have had a point. We certainly looked better against them than Real Madrid did.
-
And could have beaten Liverpool, the best team in Europe ATM, at the weekend. We NEEEEEEEED a proper defensive coach in sooo badly.
-
Even better, quieter midweek.
-
Definite improvement away at a very good team. Defenders are still shit at basic defensive activities though, such as marking, and tackling.
-
Probably.
-
Aribo has looked very good since he's come on.
-
If we could defend I think we'd stay up... But we can't, so we won't.
-
That's so harsh, again.

Onside!!!
