  1. Everton away 1999, 500 of us max, conceded 4 in 10 minutes either side of half-time including a comedy own goal between Claus and Paul Jones. Saints and Everton fought with Liverpool in one of the local pubs. Bolton away 2002, less than 300, Wayne Bridge scored what we thought was a late winner but Djorkaeff equalised in injury time. Terrible game but good day out. WGS didn’t play a recognised striker that day and last time he did. Turned out to be rather a good season… Remember the Boro game, highlight of Stuart Gray’s time as manager.
  2. That’s America and Americans in a nutshell.
  3. Thought I’d share last week’s ales I tried. Also went here on Saturday - excellent establishment and the farm shop had a lovely little selection of local and craft beers including Deya https://www.green-dragon-inn.co.uk
  4. It’s not until September but I’m already dreading the Ryder Cup over there. Europe fans can be vocal as well but not hollering ‘USA, USA’ everywhere and shouting ‘Get in the Hole’ at every par 3 when one of their players tees off. Their spectators started the trend of cheering opponents going in water and bunkers which a small minority of Europe’s more idiot spectators replicate in the home matches. Great when Colin Montgomerie used to always win and give it back. It was superb when the late, great Payne Stewart faced down some of the idiots in the galleries and said ‘Colin’s my friend, when you insult my friends I have a problem with you and I will kick you off the course’. Takes a class act like that to take a stand. Stewart played it hard but fair, way it should be. They will even go demented when De Chambreau launches 375 yards off the tee. Being America no rough to contend with.
  5. Awaiting the Jack Sullivan Instagram update.
  6. People say ‘he doesn’t do half the stuff he says’ but at some point he will and the uncertainty isn’t helping globally. It doesn’t exactly discourage Xi and his designs on Taiwan behaviourally either, nor Putin with half of the Baltic if he hadn’t reduced his armed forces and economy to rubble already,
  7. Saves the cost of building a wall 🙂
  8. He’s inconsistent which can happen with younger players in a new league with limited experience. Him and Downes should have playing together far more often which would have helped Flynn as well, but the bloke from Norwich didn’t agree.
  9. I’m genuinely sorry for your loss. But do consider others will have a different reaction to it.
  10. A lot of people on here have lost relatives to blood cancers or recovered from it themselves. Read the room and don’t be a prick. Cancer and football are not comparable.
  11. Agree with that. Although you are going to apologise to everyone for your dreadful post about Smallbone and cancer Thursday night.
  12. League One or two maybe but 13 games is simply nowhere near the record of a Billy Sharp, Jordan Rhodes, or an Adam Armstrong at Championship level over several seasons. MLG has to give way on this point, the facts aren’t changing. He’s had his shorts pulled down.
  13. One purple patch on a very small sample of 13 games at most, we are not talking a Billy Sharp or Jordan Rhodes track-record. Gabbiadini would have scored 30 goals a season based on his first half-dozen Saints matches but it was out of kilter with the rest of his track record. Stewart is a League One/SPL lower/Scottish Champ striker.
  14. Easy, far stricter gun laws so less chance of a being gunned down by a MAGA nutcase, much lower crime rates in the main, far lower cost of living (Toronto 44% less than NYC), miles better healthcare system for much less cost, public education system similarly streets ahead. Consequently, more socially inclusive overall, a consequence of better educational attainment. The only advantages to the US are slightly lower taxes (but you gain so much more quality of life in Canada, unless you are hardcore MAGA/GOP) and the weather. Both have great natural scenery so score draw there. https://www.investopedia.com/financial-edge/1012/u.s.-or-canada-which-country-is-best-to-call-home.aspx
  15. Americans would have a far better quality of life that way.
  16. Absolutely nuts and clearly basic due diligence not run. SR will be pestering for you the contact, perfect for them.
  17. More players from Norway https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molde_FK

  19. Fortunately no-one has copied his message so can’t see the sheer stupidity of whatever it is, but some going to be drunk on a Saturday morning a couple of hours before the Fox & Hounds, Vine, Plough or Linden Tree are even open. If they haven’t all banned him that is for being obnoxious. John isn’t the most popular. Definitely not a Jolly Sailor customer, that’s for sure. After all, who wants to get drunkenly harassed about American politics when you’re having what’s supposed to be a nice lunch with family in a British pub on the Hampshire coast?
  20. Agree with all of that. If Smallbone wants to be a leading Champ player and RoI international starter in central areas of the pitch, he needs to hit the weights and protein diet starting now and he may be more in contention by pre-season. It’s not just Saints in the PL, he looked like a Tyro League player in the Nations League game against Rice et al. Martin should have done it but bottled it. Juric needs to give him the same pep talk Ralph gave JWP - get physically and mentally more robust or you can’t feature regularly in the 18. Then we might see if he can step up. Has the touch and eye for goal, not sure if athletic enough but being a couple of stone and a shirt size bulkier with muscle will help with competing, holding opponents off and pressing effectively.
  21. Bit of a burger to deal with apparently but will give the club a good kick up the bun.
  22. TBF Will did go on to be very popular with their fans. I think he was encouraged to toughen up to compete and he has does have a very good first touch and passes first time smartly, as we saw in the PO Final. His familiarity with the division got him out of jail last season and scored some good goals which is another attribute. Sadly, Martin’s environment didn’t push him to get to the gym for building up some strength to hold players off and compete better as he did at Stoke. It was obvious he wasn’t going to compete in the heat of a PL midfield with that body shape, it should have been obvious to Russell and the club’s sports science/nutrition and he should have been jetting off on holiday with a strict protein and weights regime. The player has to take responsibility too but we know that’s been a weakness since 2017. It’s only the players like Ings and Stuart Armstrong who have come from bigger and more professional environments who have succeeded at SFC because they bypass the lazy SFC culture. EDIT - Ivan needs to buy him a nice big Fillet Steak at Staplewood everyday.
  23. Sounds more like a replacement for Rasmus tbh. Maybe Dragan is keeping him in Turkey and focusing him on Goztepe operations?
  24. Let’s hope this new Sporting Director, if it is to be Spors, starts bringing in players with the athleticism and physicality to cope with competing for the autos and then PL like Wolves did under Nuno as the core of the squad if we get back there at some stage. Ely, Vesty, AA - we’ve been signing/developing players who get swamped and dominated physically. Victor/Morgan are what you need in CM. Downes could do a job if he gets help and can bulk up slightly. Lesley has been dire, not an athlete, fortunately Chelsea’s issue. The smaller technical players are the icing on the cake when the core squad is built.
