Brave heart salmond announces his vision for Scotland
Ken Tone replied to Viking Warrior's topic in The Lounge
One solution not yet suggested is to let Scotland go independent, then simply invade and take it over again. What sort of defence force could a country with 5 million inhabitants have? Then we could simply help ourselves to the oil etc, without sending hard-earned tax money up there from the economic powerhouse of the south of England. -

Amazing nonsense being spouted on question time at the moment .... And why on earth do the BBC think a random mediocre singer is a sensible panelist? -

Nice line. I'd been seeing it more like a bloke saying he wants a divorce but wants to keep on living in the family home, seeing the kids, getting his cooking and washing done for him, maybe even still having sex occasionally with his ex-wife and knowing he can rely on the shared bank account if he loses badly on his betting .... But he'd have his independence! -

There are some interesting figures here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-24866266 So much depends on the oil ...how much is left and what proportion would go to Scotland. With no oil revenue an independent Scotland would be ****ed financially. There seems to be at least 5 years worth of good income left ... Maybe a lot more. if it is only 5 years, there will be some nasty changes to tax and public spending in year 6! But even if there is enough for 10 years or even 50 years, independence is forever, not till the money runs out. i see the scots are still living up to their image btw. They spend less that the rest of the UK on everything other than alcohol and tobacco .... and unsurprisingly, die younger! -

It's not a matter of strength as such though is it? No country will agree to have its currency used by another without control over that foreign country's economy. if Cameron agreed to that he'd be committing political suicide. I think some Scots need to realise that talk of independence is alienating the 'rump' of the UK. There is some feeling of "sod 'em then" about, in England especially. Why would we make the split easy for Scotland? Uk politicians won't necessarily care about pushing more people into salmond's camp. Playing hardball will get them votes down here. But yes of course Salmond has currency options. He could apply to join the euro zone or he could go with a Scottish pound, but that Scot-pound would very soon be worth less ( or indeed more to be fair) than the pound sterling. -

surely the point is that Salmond can't deliver what he claims. Keeping the pound is one example. Why on earth would the rest of the uk agree to let the value of its currency be affected by the economic policies of another country? The only way this could work would be if "independent" Scotland let its policy be dictated by the UK government and what would be the point of independence then? Personally I'd be sorry to see Scotland go. I've been there on holiday ,any times and am fond of the place. Would be a shame to see its inevitable decline after independence. sStill, look on the bright side, if they were independent, at least the rest if the uk's media could stop pretending that Scottish football actually matters! PS ... btw what would happen to the union 'jack' flag ? -
"Rather than wasting money on journeymen, I'm sure Avram would have splashed out on youth." Excellent rallyboy!

Thought he was injured, rather than down the order?

Of course, logically, they should call baseball "American rounders".

Depends what you call a 'large' bid. Easy to seem right in retrospect if you're this vague. The Bale programme last night confirmed that we turned down a bid for him in Lowe and Burley's day from Man United, basically because it wasn't large enough. If you want to be a prophet ,you'll have to be more specific. So how large do you think a bid from a top six club would have to be to get us to sell say schneiderlin, or Lallana?
-
Well we've had no power for over 9 hours now, and have been given no idea when it might come back on. The weird thing is that it didn't go off until after the storm had passed by.

Can he be eligible for England given he's played for France at all levels from u16 to u21? What are the rules?

Was this before or after you said ....."Turkish (!) : "Is that not the point? no on really knows what he is. Hes played centre back, central defensive and attacking midfield and wide attacking midfield this season and been pony in all of them. Not got the pace for the wide midfield positions, the skill for attacking midfield or the aggression for defensive midfield. His stats say it all, he contributes nothing. To squander £1.2m on a kid when the club is in serious financial woe is just plain folly and in Lowes top 5 blunders" ......?

Post Match Reaction: Manchester United 1-1 SAINTS
Ken Tone replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Lallana definitely got the final touch for the goal, but he was man of the match even without that. BBC shows us as having 54% possession and more shots than United. 2 points dropped? -
so what's the evidence for or against these contradictory statements? I'd love to be able to prove to my Portsmouth 'friends' that they were overspending on wages again.

the Mail says 'for being white'. Other sites say for being new. Eg http://www.parentdish.co.uk/2013/02/15/boy-9-hanged-himself-because-of-bullies-claims-heartbroken-family/

Serious question---- if you take out out of the equation the parachute payments and the money going out to ex-players etc, and just look at this season's normal income and current players' wages and the costs of running the club day to day, are they breaking even ,or are they running up fresh debts?
-
Sorry to see him go so early. Thought there'd be weks more fun to come yet before . The man's a clown, as well as being a fascist. Nice quote I heard recently though --- "You can say what you like about Mussolini-loving Di Canio, but at least he got the players to train on time"

This. A draw would be a good result but would much prefer it to be a score draw with Osvaldo getting off the mark.

Where do you get 8% from Turkish? The ONS figure is 1.5% gay or bi-sexual.
