  1. I stand corrected re suicide rates. Guess I was thinking of Finland, which I know is peripheral to Scandinavia and not usually taken to be part of it. Or maybe I was thinking of Sweden having a high suicide rate because that is something I grew up believing . See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_in_Sweden It *was* very high. Either way I should have checked my facts However the neo-nazism in Sweden is something covered a lot in the media. See a few links below I found in seconds. Features a lot in Henning Mankel's books too! http://www.independent.co.uk/news/sweden-is-hotbed-of-neonazism-1336125.html http://rt.com/news/sweden-anti-racism-rally-648/ http://edition.cnn.com/2013/12/15/world/europe/sweden-nazi-attack/ http://www.socialismtoday.org/46/sweden.html
  2. I'm against what Wilshaw said, and have respect for the Scandinavian system , but I'm surprised by what you say about its effects as children get older. I thought there was a growing problem of youth crime, neo- nazism, etc in Sweden in particular. Is that not the case? Genuine question. It's certainly true that the Scandinavian countries have higher suicide rates than Britain, so so something there ain't perfect.
  3. So we're spending nearly as much on the training ground as we did in building St Mary's . Makes you think!
  4. Today's media gossip has Everton wanting Remy for £10.5 million, because they don't want to pay the £20 million Chelsea will want for Lukaku
  5. Look on the bright side. They can relegated next season. PFC - the gift that keeps on giving
  6. There was also an article about him in last weekend's Sunday Times, in which he said something like "if I spend all my career at Saints, that will have been a successful career", with a strong implication that he plans to stay here as long as he can.
  7. Well St Mary's cost around £1000 per seat when built. Allowing for inflation and the higher cost of alteration compared to new-build, an estimate of £1500-£2000 per seat to expand one stand doesn't seem unreasonable.
  8. 70%possession to saints, and ironically we score on the break from one of the few Palace attacks
  9. In the absence of MLG, I feel I have to point out that your post was about 14 pages too late to be fin de siècle. But at least you didn't "go over the top."
  10. As I said when wilde was involved with. Saints I had dealings with his company years ago and would never deal with him again
  11. Interesting yes. Thanks for the link. I scored 89%. Didn't say yes to any non-words, but missed some genuine ones according to them. Though since they send you to an American dictionary for any definitions, I am not entirely convinced they are using English English so to speak.
  12. I've been on here since Noah's flood, and yes that's true. However there has been a tendedny recently for a handful of posters to dominate nearly every thread in a way that didn't use to happen to the same extent. I've got nothing against you Glasgow, nor Barry Sanchez/Dune or Turkish, and I wouldn't accuse you of trolling, but the 3 of you really do need to get another life! Never mind the content, the sheer number of posts you 3 make is just way over the top.
  13. The chinooks from Odiham seem to have busy and quiet phases. We see very few for weeks then we get several each day for weeks. They fly bloody low over my house .... Makes the windows rattle! i suppose it depends in their training schedule and when personnel are due to go out on tour. I'd resent the noise more but for the fact that those poor buggers need the practice if they're going to Afghanistan or similar . So good luck to them. Whereas the inconsiderate gits from Popham who fly over in noisy little private planes and seem to think they are the Red Baron as they do pathetic little aerobatics just over my house...... grrrr!
  14. thanks. Have looked at that website. That was how I got the impression the motorway junction itself might be ok you seem to be saying so too.
  15. Does anybody know know more about this? The traffic news web site makes it look as if it might only be the bit from the motorway north towards the airport that is flooded. Can you get off the m27 on to stoneham way south into the city?
  16. I believe many of their fans could be described as 'part fans'.
  17. This section about not paying the taxman will 'chime' with portsmouth ....... "When juggling all the balls, we made a decision to pay the wages as far as we could each month before the tax man but the loss of the Kidderminster Harriers match on New Year’s Day with a budgeted gate of 2,500 and takings to be banked of £20,000, has left us short of completing the December payroll by £17,000. "The current position is that all the players have been paid every month this season, the management and footballing staff are owed £6,000, office/supporters club staff are owed £7,000 and the youth section are owed £4,000. "The outstanding HMRC debt has risen to £60,000 at the end of December whilst the immediate priority is the winding up order for £36,500 which relates to October/November PAYE.
  18. Have also signed. There but for the grace of god .......
  19. i don't get that. If it was an immediate permanent deal, maybe. But as loan, surely he continues being paid what his current contract says, and the only doubt is whether Juventus pay it all, or we have to top it up?
  20. You can just imagine the comments in the staffroom of that school when they saw the "share' and now the season ticket story ! I bet he is a little charmer at school.
  21. And notice that now it was apparently totally Antonov's fault they went into admin yet again ... not the fact that they were still spending more than they were earning, regardless of who was the owner.
  22. The Telegraph report doesn't make clear whether those Italian clubs want to buy him or take him on loan. Can't see why on earth we'd lend him to West Ham,or any other English club, but a loan to Italy, if all his wage is covered ... maybe. As I said in my other post, it depends on the attitude of the other Saints players. We do need to consider a replacement if he goes though. Gallagher may be promising, but surely it's too early to have to rely on him much? PS .. how is Mayuka getting on ?
  23. This ^ -- assuming you do mean he hasn't quite yet adjusted to the pace of the PL, as opposed to him not having enough pace, which he has. But the over-riding facotr is how the rest of the team feel about him, however good he may or may not be.
  24. Where on earth did you get that idea?
  25. stick to radio 4 mate, or 4 extra if you want some light relief
