Who is no longer used as a striker..... But his goals more then played their part in two consecutive promotions when he was played as one. Winners against Millwall, Coventry, Palace a brace v Middlesborough before Connolly scored his Hollywood goal; And that was just in the one season.
-
Yep. As for awarding running and effort..... yes. It's used as a stick to beat some players with so why not praise it..... Hang on, i'm repeating myself. Post 25.
-
It's so easy to deconstruct opinions that are clearly based on a jerking knee.
-
Certainly progressed, when signed he was lazy and didn't get into the team at League one level until he became used to tracking back to win the ball and support the team's defensive effort. That part of his game has progressed during his time here to the extent that he is now trusted as a subsititute at premier league level to come on and help keep things tight towards the back end of games. He is no longer primarily used for his attacking strengths but for his more defensive and work-manly qualities, it's been quite a transformation.

In the same way that Wayne Bridge was signed as a forward? As Rochdale signed Rickie Lambert as a central midfielder? Positions are not hard and fast, they change in time as tactics/player development require. As for the bit in bold, needless trolling. Trying to incite a reaction.
-
I am suggesting that your use of inciteful language (insinuations of hypocrisy) is trolling, not the opinion. I am not interested in discussing what behaviour is childish, any other forum user will be able to cast their own opinion on that. I absolutely reject your opinion and have been reasonably countering it.

He is not a striker. And as for the effort, that's something Ramirez is lambasted for so why not praise it when someone contributes like that?
-
Nonsense. Really must stop reacting to these trolls.
-
He did miss a chance that looked deceptively easy to the casual observer yes. Trying to volley a ball in mid air, while turning whilst under immediate pressure from the stoke defence bearing down on him. Trust you to dwell on a single negative, he had a blinder until that point. Was in my opinion the best player on the pitch. Care to address the other points? Not everyone shares your view or need to scapegoat a good pro.

Not in League 1 and the Championship. His goals were bloody useful then. No-one is saying he is a leading light but he still has a role to play and is certainly not as out of his depth as Fox! He is also no longer deployed as a striker, it's as a wide midfielder in the closing stages to stifle the opposition. He isn't going to get into positions to score on that basis. The last game where he was used as a genuine attacker in the Premier League was Stoke away last season and again, it was due to his work-rate. He was tireless in the first half there, stopping Stoke performing and played a massive part in us going 3-1 up after 30 minutes. As quoted in the BBC: It was the other side of the coin that he and the rest of the team was knackered in the closing stages, he ran himself into the ground for the team.

Hear hear! Guly is a limited but useful player where we are now, he is a great option when we need to close games out at this level as he isn't afraid to play simply; Namely close down the opposition and keep the ball against a tiring team who are chasing the game. That the option is not available to use over the next two months is a pity. We havn't been afraid to cast aside those are are seen as not good enough, Dan Harding, Billy Sharp, Lee Barnard, Aaron Martin, Dean Hammond. Guly is still valued, as you say that speaks volumes.

Knee operation apparently: From http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/24863760

Sod the caption competitio, that's just a bloody good pic of our coach getting stuck in with the players. The looks of fun on their faces say a lot.
-
And expect resistance. The higher we go the better the test. The joy of having a single minded b@stard in charge.... is that he can be a single minded b@stard. It can be a double edged sword, but thankfully the good is meaningful.
-
He would want to be paid off surely. Will have earned more in the last 36 months then he would be able to in an entire league one career.
-
Ignoring my efforts to get things back on track after the incident, really lads....... Come on! Addressing Lighthouse's point:
-
You may be right, but at least the trend is that our English players are being recognised. With Clyne, Shaw and Ward-Prowse also on the fringes it really is an amazing time as a fan, we are not just making waves in the league but also in the very fabric of the national game.

The first league game of the Championship season, started alongside Fonte. Didn't put a foot wrong. Memories of the cup game v Blackpool stick. Seabourne and Martin started, Seabourne was by far the more composed and able player. Martin was never going to be top class but it's great to know a local lad played a part in our rise. He will be League 2 standard at best if he needs to lead a defensive line, as a team/squad member though he is easily league standard.

Thankyou, thankyou for the needless OTT. You must be having a quiet night ooop north.
-
Bugger, that's us losing then.
-
Yes, yes and yes.
-
I stand by my judgement. It helps Shaw that he is the undisputed number one left back at the club, gets more time to shine then someone who has to fight for his place in the team in our deepest position.
-
His passing ability, reading of the game and workrate put him up there, he cannot just deliver a set piece, he can unlock defences with his composure and passing nous (see Stoke at the weekend.) Will never forget the impact he made at Wigan last year either.
-
Not from what I have seen. He is pretty close in terms of quality albeit a different kind of player.
-
You make a good point.
