Given the tactical set up though Jay was never going to fit, too wide out to be a foil for another striker despite not strictly being a winger either. Thankfully his more 'all action' combative style enabled him to get a foothold that Jay otherwise couldn't.

Agreed. This call up really didn't make sense to me, he was playing well without setting the world alight and had scored a few but there were more obvious choices within our squad for selection. It may just highlight how short England are up front. He didn't play brilliantly v Chile in an unfamiliar line-up and tactical plan meaning he has now been set aside, I hope it will not effect his confidence too much as he does seem to need it to thrive.
