Agreed re mixing it up. Is there also the argument that for playing it around at the back to work, the defensive team needs to lose the ball to the attackers occasionally. Part of the point is to draw the opposition out and if they never think they’ve got a chance of getting it back they’ll just sit deep. Bit like bookmakers always wanting you to win occasionally so you keep coming back.
-
Could there be an argument that as there are so many strong teams this year everyone will regularly take points off each other and no-one runs away with a high points total?
-
Whilst unlikely, do goalkeepers have a few more options to move due to emergency loans etc?
-
Nothing to really add on the game except to say I thought Lincoln was a cracking city for a day out, loads of good pubs, definitely one of the better away days of the season.
-
That’s actually a reasonable and fairly representative selection of our support.
-
Not Saints specific, but anyone else think the whole transfer window in the Premier League looks absolutely bonkers? Probably some sort of really complicated accounting trickery and god knows what else, just a load of really strange deals. Also long gone are the days of a couple of signings, it seems a big overhaul becoming the norm. Manchester City and Chelsea the ultimate player trading clubs.
-
That’s what I mean. Just stands out from our approach to all other transfers this summer. Looks odd. Guess there’ll always be an outlier somewhere.
-
The £9m spent on Dobbin stands out there as a strange bit of business.
-
No-way the club want to be paying Ramsdale to sit on the bench or has been the case so far, not even in the match day squad. That’s £ that could well be put to use on bringing in a player that will actually make a regular contribution.

Old Contemptibles is a bit of a trek. Always liked the White Swan in Digbeth. Most pubs fine if there’s not loads of you and you’re not wearing colours. That said, they’re all a bit of a walk for a midweek game, if you’re just having a couple of quick pints dive in the ground.
-
Cheers, wonder why that couldn’t have been sorted a month ago.
-
That’s a decent enough deal for us. He was excellent towards the end of last season, Tonda really brought the best out of him and he was probably the best CB in the league. Hit and miss before then and I’d say a downgrade for Villa from Konsa, but that’s their problem now. Like the sound of the Norwegian lad as a replacement.
-
How can they just find 400 tickets to put on sale only a week before the game? Shoddy.
-
He’s not a £30m player and I’d be really surprised if a PL team came in for him. He works hard but really lacks an end product.
-
Thought Azaz was excellent, Millwall found him unplayable in the 2nd half. Great win, hopefully a symbolic kick start to our season now.
-
Wasn’t 3k away fans at that was there.
-
2k is a big percentage of the home tickets that would have been on sale for this game. Definitely more then would normally be available for a Saturday 3pm ko.
-
Loads of tickets left for this one. The club have got their pricing for these opening games wrong.
-
JWP on the bench surely?

Those days passed a long time ago.

It’s a bit pricier than I’d like, but not crazy. £10 for under 18s is good. Assuming both sides play a full strength team it could be a really good game.
-
Probably true, but that would be with two seasons PL experience and never ending transfer fee inflation.
-
Proper small club behaviour isn’t it, getting all giddy at the idea of a cup trip to a big ground.
-
Got an image in my head now of a Saints fan sat at a table by the centre circle trying to enjoy his three-course meal while the game goes on around him.
-
It’s a badly written article, the costs aren’t doubling, it’s just one game at a time £250k plus another game at £250k.
