And you say this all the time. But Cortese didn't EXPECT us to struggle, and going on the predictions on here at the start of the season, neither did we. Surely you have to try and bring in the best players possible? Even if they're not going to be ideal in a relegation scrap, if the club was never intending on being in a relegation scrap, then thats no problem. IF Gaston had started like Hazard, then we wouldn't be where we are. But I'm sure he hasn't quite settled due to a number of reasons, lifestyle, new country, bereavement, injury etc. Do I want him to have had a better season than he has - yes of course, but just because he hasn't been a world beater in his first season, doesn't mean he's suddenly a waste of money.

Some players settle quickly, get a run in the team, fit in with the players around them straight away, and have huge confidence. Others take a bit longer to settle, and some don't settle at all. Excuse me for not writing a player of Gastons quality off just yet!!

Cortese's realistic ambition would probably be to qualify for Europe through league position, i.e. top 6 IMO.

Hasn' this been done to death already? Upper midtable, keep our young players together, build around the talent we already have, and get rid of players not good enough.

Just like De Ridder, Whats the point in being able to run fast down the wing, if your cross goes over the back of the goal every time. Ok impact player to come off the bench, but thats it.

Personally think Nige is a better manager than Mcdermott, and will play better football. So can see the logic behind them signing him. We were on for staying up when he left, and bought relatively well, so see no reason why he won't do a good job there next season. He can install the passion and positivity needed to get the momentum for them.
