Oh dear oh dear an extra 36k on the wage bill as of January and not a new player in sight. I guess the charities go to back of the queue again In their new wage structure that's 4 players wages. When we were fighting against administration, that was nearly our whole starting 11, which kind of puts into perspective the difference between the two clubs. We should still be dousing the pavement with rose petals when Storrie walks by, 36k a week for Ben Haim, comedy gold

This should cover it off for you... and actually covers both Managers on a contract and the armed forces. You will notice the headline and hence why football and the armed forces are covered by employement law to "An extent" Don't bother admitting your mistake, you have bored me enough already, on something i suspect you knew along, but just fancied arguing. Workers not entitled to certain statutory rights Some workers are not entitled to some statutory rights (see under heading Rights at work). They are:- anyone who is not an employee, for example, an agency or freelance worker. However, most workers are entitled to certain rights such as the national minimum wage, limits on working time and other health and safety rights, the right not to be discriminated against and paid holiday. If you are not an employee but an agency/freelance worker, a casual worker, a trainee or self employed, you should seek help from an experienced adviser, for example, a Citizens Advice Bureau. To search for details of your nearest CAB, including those that can give advice by email, click on nearest CAB. employees who normally work outside the UK members of the police service. However, members of the police service are covered by discrimination law members of the armed forces. However, members of the armed forces are covered by discrimination law merchant seamen and share fishermen some workers in the transport industry are not entitled to paid holidays or limits on their working hours by law and have to rely on their contract trainee doctors are not entitled to paid holidays and have to rely on their employment contract. They are also limited to working a 58 hour week, rather than 48 hours. http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/life/employment/basic_rights_at_work.htm

You are either very dim or you just want to be argumentative, but thanks for confirming that there are subtle differences with the armed forces employment law. With regard to what was said by the LMA, it obviously depends in what context he was talking, but to all intense and purposes, managers and players are contractors not employees (Not withstanding IR35 and all that) and as such can be terminated against the value of their contract, on a whim. That is not true for full time employees, who would have to be taken through a formal process, unless the two parties can agree a compensation package. This isn't rocket science or anything new, its just the way football is.... The same for IT contarctors etc etc. So there are subtle differences in the UK employment law for the armed forces. Thanks for clearing that up. As for the LMA lying, no of course not, it just depends on the context in what they were saying

LOL... I am not getting into an argument about employment law on a football forum, but on the basis that I have already described and provided examples of how it differs (To an extent) based on it being predomiantly "Contract" based, then we can close that one of. And a subject close to your heart, should prove my point comparing the armed forces. Women on Subs.

I don't know if you delibaretly try and start arguments and constantly contradic yourself, but you seem to be a master at it. Very similar to the armed forces, football "to an extent" is subject to the spectrum of UK employment law (For contract staff - managers players etc.)

Does something happen to the mangers down there when they take the job at fratton, that makes them talk absolute ****e?? Yesterday he was complaining that the game was called off and his team were raring to go and couldnt wait for the Chrismas fixtures....... Today he thinks there is to many games at Christmas and the fixture list should be reduced. Something seems to happen to them when they go down there, that they feel compelled to spout this tosh. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/Snow-joke-for-Cotterill.6667156.jp

I think one of those nice jester hats with bells and red and white quadrants, would set a santa outfit off, brilliantly.

Stolen from Knellster on the takeover thread, but thought it bring a smile to a few Saints faces that dont make it over to the lounge MANAGER Ian Baraclough is trying to fix up a behind closed doors friendly for his S****horpe United team to get them back into action. After two successive postponed league games, he wants to try to get them a proper run-out before the start of a hectic four-match Christmas and New Year programme. "I have made a few calls to try to do something in the early part of the week," he said. "We managed to train on a full-sized pitch at Doncaster last Wednesday and we used Southampton's training facilities when we got down to the south coast on Friday. http://www.thisiss****horpe.co.uk/s****horpeunitednews/Friendly-cards-Iron-fit/article-3021961-detail/article.html It's a nice thought that in a bid to regain South Coast supremity, we want any team playing the blue few, to have the best preparations possible and Staplewood is an open door.

Well of course it does to an extent, but ultimately it is a fixed term contract as opposed to permenant terms. The law has changed with regard to when a contractor is ultimately a permenant employee, but the upshot is that the maximum exposure to both sides is the value of the contract..... pay that up and there is no issue. Look at Houghton from Newcastle. The reason given is that they wanted someone more experienced.... simple as that, no misconduct, no poor performance etc etc.... Then look at Blackburn, the list is endless. It's when you apply the same rules to permenant staff, that it can get messy.
-
Correct, that's the way it is in football. Getting rid of full time employees on permanent terms, can prove a tad more diffficult, but ultimatley nothing that money reslove.

I think cotterill is worried they will have to play them next year and he might not have the same squad
-
I have to say I came to the same conclusion
-
Sorry i thought you meant they work as the "Apprentice" roles ...... but have to say I didn't know they did any work at all so I take it back and apologise.

Totally bemused by that. Do you really? What if someone posted they wanted your mum, dad, wife kids to die soon? I think you have perfectly demonstrated the intelligence levels of those that did not support her, or understand what she did for this country. Well done. -

A week away from what is considered a crucial time in the footballing calendar, I can't help but think, that it is a more important time for Saints than most other clubs. Not because we have any god given right to promotion, but the pressure of "The five year plan", the expectation amoungst the fans & footballing press, the outstanding questions on who actually owns us (And their intentions) and with the transfer window just about to open, the Christmas period, could make or break our season and possibly even the next couple of years. A poor christmas and we start drifting away from the pack, our better players become more interested in moves to higher divisions and transfer targets think twice about dropping down a division if it doesn't look like we are going up. A good Christmas and we start pushing or consolidating an automatic promotion place, it makes it easier to persuade the better players to stay and also attract better players that believe we are going up and the 5 year plan is back on track. Failure this season would almost certainly see a rebuilding of the squad, which of course takes time and the cycle starts again, it would also risk lethargy from our owners and possily the amount in which they are prepared to fund us. I've lost count of the number of games on here (And it's predecessors) of the "Must win games", but for me this is a genuine "Must win" period in the clubs history So Santa, if you are listening, can I have an automatic promotion place by January 1st... oh and the tubes to be working on Boxing day.
