Supported Saints avidly since age 9, inheriting them from my dad. Only really got interested on 01.05.1976. Little did I know that would be as good as it gets! In the modern era we regularly went home and away all through League 1 and the Championship years. But, tellingly, neither of us have seen a single live match since back in the Premier League. Armchair fans now. Reasons: something anaemic and plasticy about the Prem; tourist crowds; I always revelled in the "underdog" side of Saints and fighting back to glory against all the odds, expensive; live a long way away;getting old, less and less connection with the mercenary careerist players.
