WC has made a fair point. My beef with AL this season had been that when he gets near the box in a shooting opportunity he needs to take two touches - the chance is gone. We discussed this on Saturday in the pub as it was something he did at Newcastle. Yesterday he did actually let fly without a touch (and the ball screamed away towards the corner flag) JRod in a similar position bang bounce goal. The discussion in the pub was that AL did not do that in the nPc or L1 so why now when he is at a higher level does he feel the need to do it? Is it a confidence issue or a coaching flaw or is he simply not good enough? Start of the season? He was taking 2 touches. Before he got injured he was taking one touch. In the style we are playing (and under NA) Rickie pulls away making space in the box. Need midfielders with composure on the ball who can score goals or make a telling final ball - neither AL nor Puncheon were able to do that yesterday. So WC made a valid point. We were by far the better team live on the telly as well. For huge periods of the game it was like watching a PL team play a pub side. 69% possession, 75% possession those stats kept coming up. We were first to the ball all over the park EXCEPT in the final 3rd. Fact is in the cold light of day, Hill & Samba had WAY too much experience for us. Too many "feet left in" tackles bumps and nudges, added to SRL managing to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. How many shots did we actually have on target before JRod came on? How many times did the final ball in become a desperate toe poke? 10 man defence, bus was parked and sucker punched on the break. Of course it was bitterly disappointing but we've seen Chelsea do it to Barca with 10 men, we've seen FA Cup upsets like that for decades. This week in training they need to stop all this pressing practice and spend EVERY day working on final balls & movement into the box. Composure composure and composure. Oh and a kick up the ass for Punch & SRL (as in IF Rickie is getting owned by a CB DON'T lob the ball gently into the air in his direction FFS)

Well that was krap. SRL off the pace & Puncheon does a Saganowski. Made them look dreadful the way we kept the ball and moved it around and then lose composure or delay around the box again. At least JRod was more direct when he came on & Jose showed the strikers how to shoot. Very very disappointing, especially with a huge turn out for us in the pub & then they have two shots, two goals.

Two more weeks to go of crazy season down here then back to normality. So, last night. Late decision to go, 80's Rewind with T'Pau, Heaven 17, ABC, Howard Jones & Rick Astley. Apparently a tour building up to a festival in Henley in the summer. Advertised as a 9pm start we arrived at 8:30 to here T'Pau singing their one song as we entered - grumble groan meh well at least we heard their one song. So how to describe the evening? (Bearsy would have loved the crowd - about 60% were drunk single older b1tches all dressed in their finest, thousands of them - yuk.) How the hell can anyone compare a gig like this to a Stone Roses gig? Think the answer is you can't. I enjoyed the SR and am glad I saw them. Last night was something totally different, the best description is that EVERYONE got "The Joke". The bands were playing corny 80's cheese that had no great impact on the world of Music. They played songs (in the main) that nobody is ever going to cover in a Pub band. Let's face it their stuff was pretty rubbish when it was written (mainly by Stock Aitken & Waterman's Sinclair Spectrum PC I expect) And that was the point. This wasn't creative, or earth shattering, this was something to go to having had a decent warm up session, to sing like an idiot and dance like Dads. Musically Heaven 17 did an excellent rework of Temptation with an intro from a chick called Kelly that went all modern clubby remix and wailing, he looked old and bald. Martin Fry with his greying temples was backed by a full band and we sang every song, Howard Jones still nailed it, bit chunkier than when he wore all that Spandex. And then Rick. OK so he actually did have more than one hit, (bit shocked that he could fill a 30/40 minute set with songs we knew). Tthe bloke hasn't changed a bit, still looks like TinTin (how does he keep his hair?) and the thing was, he got the joke as well. He took the p1ss out of himself as well as the swooning drunk old b1tches. And for the first time in ages (knowing there would be the usual nightmare getting a Taxi) we HAD to stay for the last song.... On the way out I noticed a very different reaction to SR - everybody was smiling, or still singing. It makes no sense, 8,000 people left a gig HAPPY. Not "happy I saw XYZ" not talking about one moment in a Jam revisit of an old album track, but having been in some 3 hour Twilight Zone It can't only have been about Old Farts reliving happier times, not just "old memories (hell there were LOADS of teens & 20 somethings there as well. How could such Tosh music and cringeworthy bands evoke such a reaction? Simple. Beer was half the price of the Roses gig & the queue took about 4 minutes. IF the tour comes your way, drop the pretentions, get a skinful down your neck before heading to the venue and treat it as a Musical Comedy show. Bloody loved it. But a gig? Nah it was 8,000 people having a ridiculous karaoke night. Think a Festival would be just insane...

Had to create Playlists for the Band for our Wedding in May and a list of downloads for the DJ to have available. (A Polish wedding party lasts 12 hours so it was a helluva a task) The band will play about 10 x 45 minute sets and will have to include a whole raft of traditional Polish Folk/Waltz/Polkas as well as their hit music. So in their list of over 300 songs I had to pick ones we totally did NOT want played as well as Must plays. Thing was of course that there were a whole heap of songs/singers that I didn't recognise first time or were old Europop (Modern Talking FFS) So I had to start googling and You Tubing. I had a GREAT week finding stuff (A Tony Christie Vid from when he first went on TotP for eg ) Then I had to start finding the downloads. Needed around 200 "approved" songs. Again, great fun Top 100 Heavy Metal Tracks, Top 100 Slow Metal, Top 100 Disco, Top 100 Indie, etc etc then some great times listening to them straight away. Probably listened to more songs in that week than I had ever had in my old sad Record Collection. All of them are now being downloaded, some are being paid for some are available free. I'm going to end up with a whole huge new music collection. Allowing for the fact that the guests will range from 85 through to 3 and from about 6 different Nationalities, the range had to be wide as did the genres. So there had to be a set of Hands in The Air "Dance" tracks as well for when the Vodka has really set it & the oldies have gone home. The lists of that current dance stuff was simply full of one hit wonders, band names I had never heard of, DJ's etc Daft Punk, Underworld, Stardust, Rihanna But then those led me to Soundcloud and wow.... Spent days on there listening to some amazing remixes of songs. I was trying to find a remix of Gotye that Zane Lowe had done (ie one you can dance to) No way the old "Route to Market" - ie Radio One Playlist, Top 100 - HMV would have led me to some of the stuff on there. Quite a few I have now downloaded and listen to, some of the stuff they have done to Adele songs is excellent (as an example) So yeah the death of music, but music is made by people who start playing around at home these days. Just they don't have to carry a drum kit into their Dad's Garage to practice. Now THAT is a benefit.

10 quid is the start price for decent Red plonk. Basically you need to pay 3 or 4 quid more than the cost of a standard bottle of Jacob's Creek Plenty around for that Wolfblass Yellow Label Cab Sav, most Rioja's/Chiantis in Tesco. For around 12/13 quid you can get a young Chateau Neuf Du Pape For something lighter find a Loire Valley Red like a Samur and serve it chilled
