Well, shouldn't let our brains get in the way of analysing what has been going on over the past week. I'm with colinjb on this. 50 something applicants. A number have been interviewed, possibly 5 maybe more Each time someone has been interviewed, the media and the bookies have used Old Style football speak to shoot off one and scoop everyone else with the news that X will be the new manager. All done to sell papers. (How many extra Echo copies got sold yesterday?) It seemed clear that Adkins (as was Brown) was one on the list. The Media just decided that the Adkins interview (because it was done PROFESSIONALLY - ie permission was asked) was actually an appointment. They are shown as being really dumb, NC seems to do things his way, the media assumed the whole Brown Envelope smoke and fire circus was continuing. My guess? Adkins was told the club were interested, they would talk to other candidates and get back to him. Wharton then shoots off (rightly) buggers ain't offered nuffink - true because only the Echo believed we had made him an actual OFFER. NC sails happily on to his next one two or three interviews as a firestorm breaks. Doesn't absolve NC from being naive or even being the DBP source of all evil. Just think it is FUNNY in a "self harm oh bugger didn't mean to cut myself there sort of way"

Speculation, wild or otherwise is one thing, but there is a duty of care. They were told something, they reported it. I don't have an issue with that at all. However, the recollection of the two of us in the car as we heard it was that it was done "with breathless excitement" it was implied ITK fact. They make a Buzz Word statement, that was picked up by many fans listening. Simply put it set INCORRECT expectations. In the fairness of balance Feel sorry for Adkins. I hope CORTESE now goes to the press with every detail. Rumours back on Monday from agents that Scunny would be looking for around 350k in compensation. No it wasn't definitive source wise and no I didn't post it as it was not relevant, in hindsight it could be interesting Post by a possible ITK elsewhere that we made a provisional offer with NA resigning and 200k compensation Scunny came back and demanded 500k And they also leaked like a sieve (my opinion) Enough hearsay evidence at the moment to simply say Judgement on NC (& NA) reserved again until anything official comes out

The point was that it was done with a "Breathless Excitement" Implying it was immense news for Saints fans. Anyway perhaps circumstances may just make this redundant as the Good ship MON comes up the Solent to the rescue

As we were leaving the ground Saturday, Solent reported their 5Live colleagues as stating the manager would be appointed by mid week and would have a WoW factor that would show the fans that NC knew what he was doing. IMHO this statement led to the (great fun) wild speculation on here during the week, but MORE importantly, it undermined the fans confidence in Nigel Adkins being appointed. Adkins appears to be a damned fine manager and a good signing for the club, playing a style we all want to see and experience of getting out of this League. He cannot be deemed to be a WoW factor, and that has caused many of us to be disappointed or even underwhelmed. At a time when we need to get the pressure and negativity off the players and manager at SMS, I believe Solent set us up and gave us false expectations which will simply ADD to the pressure on the new man. They commented in good faith but they were WRONG to do so, the information was clearly WRONG and they need to apologise when the Commentary Team kick off the game on Saturday.

So we reckon that NC has probably interviewed about 5 or 6 managers now. Seems like Adkins took training for Scunny yesterday then had his interview in the evening. Yet we had one "low numbers" poster hinting yesterday that there was still one more to interview today. How can an Interview process have suddenly changed to a Adkins is to be announced today meeting? Whilst it is obviously possible that this will be the case, I do not see how NC would suddenly alter the way he has been working all week. Adkins ONLY had his interview last night so how could he have been NC's favourite for the day or two before hand? and, IF there is one more today it all sounds like more smoke mirrors and guess work. Is it really a case of last man standing? or is NC continuing to follow a (pretty professional) process he has been buried in for the past week?
