It just goes to show that if you really want to work, there is work out there for you to do.

From the mouths of babes and sucklings.....

If it is B and making up foreign policy on the hoof doesn't involve illegally invading sovereign countries, then perhaps it is better that way. -

No need to incentivise the private sector as they are being forced to do it from 2012 (as the Stakeholder Pension idea never really took off) Here is the latest advice from the Pensions Regulator: You must provide a pension scheme for your workers from 2012 and make an employer contribution towards it. Even if you already offer pension arrangements for your workers, you will still have some new obligations to meet. The pension scheme that you provide must meet a number of conditions based on the level of contributions paid or the benefits received. Membership of the scheme must be automatic for certain workers, known as ‘eligible jobholders’. Because these people will not have to do anything to join the scheme, the process is known as ‘automatic enrolment’. Most of your workers are likely to be included in the automatic enrolment process. They can choose not to be in the scheme if they want to, by actively ‘opting out’. If you already have a pension scheme, you may be able to use it if it meets certain qualifying conditions. An introduction to work-based pension changes Work-based pensions are being reformed to encourage more people to save for their retirement. As an employer you are likely to be affected by the reforms. What are the changes? Work-based pension scheme. An arrangement you make to provide your workers with an income for when they retire. Worker A ‘worker’ is a wider category than just employees and can include some contractors or agency workers. As a general rule, if you have to pay the national minimum wage to someone, or they are working under an apprenticeship, they are a worker. Eligible jobholders Workers you will need to automatically enrol are known as ‘eligible jobholders’. These are workers who: • earn more than £5,035 a year (this figure will be reviewed again in 2012); • are aged between 22 and state pension age; and • work in Great Britain. I knew things had gone down hill in terms of our world standing over the last 13 years, but Belgium? Jees, I didn't realise things had got that bad. You could have a point as the UK has the 2nd largest defence industry in terms of percentage of GDP and employs over 350,000 people.

For a summer job whilst at school, I worked for a packaging company that packed cosmetics for Estee Lauder. I sat on the production line with a rubber mallet for three weeks banging the stoppers in the tops of perfume bottles. Occasionally I would get carried away and smash a bottle or two. The only problem was going home on the bus stinking of womens perfume. For the second half of the holiday, I got promoted up the line to be the one who placed the stopper on the bottle before the poor ****er sat next to me had to hammer it in. That summer provided me with the motivation to get off my arse and do something because I could not do that for the rest of my life.

Interviews - the other side of the table
Johnny Bognor replied to revolution saint's topic in The Lounge
You can have peope that interview well and turn out to be not all that, whilst others don't interview well that turn out to be stars, so it is a bit of a lottery as far as I am concerned. I tend to ask very personal questions for two reasons: 1. They are not expecting it, so you can see how they cope under pressure 2. You tend to hire based on people's skills and fire them for who they are. Therefore, you need to find out who they are and what makes them tick Aside from persoanl questions, one obvious opening question is "what do you know about us". I am shocked at the number of people that don't do their own research especially with the available information on company websites. Not having any internet access is not an excuse because everyone knows someone with a PC/iPhone etc. In the old days, you would phone up a company and attain some product brochures for further information. My view is why should I bother to read their CV, if they haven't been bothered to read the company's CV? I would far rather hire a less able person who really wants it, rather than a very able person that can't be bothered. -
If you borrow a shed load of money to employ people in non-jobs within the public sector, it is bound to keep the unemployment figures down. The problem is that that money has to pay back. When you find out that your neighbour who has a brand new car, loads of new clothes and fancy holidays has loans coming out of his ears and £20k+ on his credit card, he doesn't look so flash afterall. Same difference really.....

Couldn't agree more (For VFTT, that was a joke BTW) -
I can tollerate the Burkha, but only if I am allowed to walk around in a balaclava without fear of police harassment. I was section 60'd at St Mary's two season's ago for wearing a scarf across my face.....when it was bloody freezing. So all I am looking for is equal treatment.

Totally irrelevant to our disagreement. You are trying to BTF me, where you will drag me off of topic into a quiet / dark corner in order to score some cheap points. You'll be going on about hospital cleaning contracts next (that was a joke BTW). Here is the synopsys of our "disagreement" What the hell has that last point got to do with me joking that crap HT's won't lose their jobs but get moved on to another school. See me after class. (That was a joke BTW) -

But BTF, I started the "Incompetent Teacher" thread which was contributed to by many of the teachers on here. They all clearly explained the processes (unless they were lying), so I can draw on their insight, input and experience. Therefore, me making a crude point that they would be moved on to another school can only be taken as tongue-in-cheek or a wind up (which it was). Believe it or not, spending time on TSW is not a complete waste of time as you actually learn something (now and again). Probably definately maybe Fair play for going above and beyond the call of duty, but this incident is a one-off / extremely rare. We can all find something in our working lives that is extreme or rare. My wife had a bomb threat on her flight a few months ago and as terrifying as it must have been, it is not the norm. Hell, a copper got his brains blown out by that nutter last week in the call of duty.....he doesn't earn anywhere near that of the head that you cite. -

No you're playing the "He's joking, but I'll try and prove him wrong" because as at the end of the day, you need to get one up on me now and again as it is good for your self esteem. So if it makes you feel better, I'm happy to take one for the team. -

That was me being ever so slightly tongue-in-cheek, so don't get your hammer and sickle boxer shorts in a twist. To be fair, VFTT, I did go to school, so know a little bit about it (I certainly get it from a customer perspective). I also have two children at primary school, so my experience goes a little further than goading leftie teachers on an internet forum. You need to try and recognise when I am taking the **** vs making a point. As it happens, the head at my kids primary is excellent (I would even go as far as saying outstanding), however I would say that £80k is a fair salary for him doing that job. At the end of the day, he is responsible for 25 staff maximum (remember that Teachers always bang on about pupil numbers to accelerate their own position), and so he is ultimately managing the equivalent to a small SME. We are constantly told about the extra hours teachers put in over and above school hours, but in this case, the head is getting paid for those extra hours in overtime - does this mean I can now criticise him for taking all of that holiday? -

Johnny Bognor replied to Johnny Bognor's topic in The Lounge
In the article, he received £103k for this special project over two years, which I suppose you could class as bonuses. However, you could argue that he should be delivering the very best he can for his basic salary (because that is what he is paid to do), so why give him £103k extra (of which £53k was for the previous year)? -

Johnny Bognor replied to Johnny Bognor's topic in The Lounge
Incorrect, he gets moved to another school (as per the incompetent teachers thread). As for competition, I imagine there are tens of thousands of teachers that would be quite happy to do that job for half that money. Thorpie on here is always banging on about how little he is paid, I am sure he'd give it a damn good go for £50k. -

But it's not a true market, as he gets given 400 customers (The rest of us have to fight for each and every customer). Glad you agree on this. -

Johnny Bognor replied to Johnny Bognor's topic in The Lounge
According to the detail in the article, you are looking at: Base £83k Overtime £10k Special Project = £51.5k Actual Total = £144.5k (per annum) Still way too much IMO!!! -
I know that they do a valuable job, but £200,000 per annum for a primary school head is totally taking the ****. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/10609273.stm It must be bad, because even the Union thinks it is outrageous. I see he claimed £10,000 per annum for overtime, so I hope BTF's SIL is getting paid for all his extra hours.

I do agree with this, however most people site the uber rich which represent a tiny fraction of society. Yes they could pay more and maybe they should do, but I am having building work done at the moment and the amount of "cash" requests is unbelieveable. I wonder how much is lost in tax revenue from the armies of trades that aren't declaring all of their income. I'd wager that you could make quite a dent in the defecit from these tax avoiders.

Had one last year that Chichester Council dealt with for about £75 This year the wasps are literally eating my teak garden table. They basically move backwards two or three inches chewing the wood as they go leaving scratch marks on it. I guess they use this to build their nest which must be nearby.
