  1. Will we get a referrendum on electoral form, similar to the one we had on Europe in the last parliament?
  2. I understand the basics of STV, but there are some parts with which I am not clear. Say I vote for candidate X, he needs 2500 votes to win, but actually gets 3000 votes. This extra 500 (or wasted votes) then go to the next candidate. This to me seems absurd, as you could have the following scenario: Party A gets 3000 votes, so 500 then get redistributed. On what gounds do they get redistributed as there may be many different second choices? Would my vote be counted as one contributing to my elected choice or would this be reallocated (against my will)....and who decides this? I guess the option is that my 'wasted vote' could automatically go to the second most popular candidate, who was not necessarily one of my choosing. This would not be PR, it would be proportional misrepresentation. So the question I have, is do you have to rank all of the candidates? i.e. If there are 8 candidates, can I opt for only the one that I like and therefore my votes won't be given to someone who I oppose?
  3. pompey (as in, not got one)
  4. Redknapp (as in ****)
  5. jeeper (as in jeepers creepers)
  6. I used to think he was OK as he made some of the right noises earlier on in the noughties, but it seems he is now full of his own self importance: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/liberaldemocrats/7534160/Vince-Cable-apologises-for-Treasury-boast.html As for St Vince warning us that government borrowing was a major problem in 2003, Oliver "Bleeding" Letwin did the same in 2003, but no-one on here is lauding St Letwin. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3306109.stm) This is a good read.... http://blogs.channel4.com/factcheck/2010/04/07/is-vince-cables-economic-reputation-fully-deserved/
  7. There is a lot of wealth tied up with the super rich. I would give them a choice..... invest in British industry and British business and get tax relief. If you don't, you'll pay more in tax. Unlocking this wealth would be a way in which we could drive the economy forward in the long term. (Even Fuengirola Saint, our resident Communist, agreed with this proposal).
  8. Agree, if I was DC, I would have ditched him years ago and installed Ken Clarke. Very popular across party lines and laid the foundations of unprecendented economic growth......the most successful chancellor in the last 40 years. He would give the tories more credibility. Osbourne is a ****.
  9. The first thing I would do is shut down those that don't pay their tax bills, starting with our friends down the road :-)
  10. Top 5 tory priorities: 1, Act on National Debt 2, Get Britain working by boosting enterprise 3, Make Britain family friendly 4, Back the NHS 5, Raise standards in School Labours Top Priorities: 1, Economy 2, Protecting Public Services 3, Political reform Lib Dems top 4 priorities: 1, Fair taxes 2, Fair chance for every child 3, Fair future (creating a Green Britain) 4, Fair Deal (cleaning up politics) Now as we are still in the wake of the worst recession since the WW2 with unprecedented levels of national debt, don't you think the Lib Dems have forgotten something quite pressing?
  11. My view is that I grew my business despite politicians, not because of them (100+ hours a week for the first five years had quite a bit to do with it). Look, from a personal point of view I couldn't give monkeys, but for the future of all of us, we can't continue running this defecit and I don't want my grandchildren paying for 'our' excesses. We've mortgaged our childrens futures and this is plain wrong. I actually want the "great" to be put back in to Britain and this requires a period of entrepreneurship. A step in the right direction is reducing the planned rise in NI. It is not taking money out of the economy and that claim by Fraudon is a total LIE. Not a total solution by any means, but a very small step. The defecit needs to be dealt with, but the difficulty with this election is that none of the main parties will be honest about it because no-one wins elections by saying they will cut everything. But, I expect it to be a priority which seems to be the case with both the tories and labour (even if neither are being specific about it). As for the Lib Dems, it barely gets a mention in the detailed and costed Lib Dem manifesto and is not even in their top 4 priorities. I fear for the future, not for me, but for the hard working people of this once great nation.
  12. I couldn't say whether this would work or not without knowing how many people are due to retire / leave over the next 5 years. Not sure it will make a third, but its a step in the right direction nevertheless. As it happens, National debt is approaching £1 trillion with a deficit of £175 billion per annum. Now, let's say you have £10k on your credit card and you are adding £1k per annum to this balance, what would be your course of action???? 1. Go out shopping 2. Do the gardening 3. Clean the car 4. Defrost the fridge Oh ****, nearly forgot, try to work out how to sort out your finances. This is akin to Lib Dem policy where dealing with the defecit is not even within their top 4 priorities.
  13. Back to the subject.....Part of me wants Labour to win, so that I can watch Fraudon impose deeper cuts in Public Spending than those imposed by Thatcher. I actually think that watching all the socialists squirm will be quite funny. They'll end up hating him more than they hate 'her'. I also wouldn't mind Cleggy getting in as it will be quite funny watching him call the IMF in within 12 months when they have completely avoided the issue of the defecit (which isn't even in the top 4 of their priorites) and we are bankrupt as a nation. Maybe a bit sadistic and perverse, but quite funny nevertheless.
  14. I used to drive up the A286 to join the A3 when driving to London from Chichester. At Milford (just before joining the A3), there used to be a poster for Virginia Bottomly for quite a few elections. Each time, someone had crossed out the 'ia' and the 'ly'. I'll leave you to work it out.
  15. I watched Stromboli from the safety of a cruise ship about 1 mile away. The captain stopped the ship, turned out the lights and we sat there watching it for a good 30 mins. Incredible stuff.
  16. I know the area well, having holidayed on the Amalfi Coast on many occasions and having docked in Naples on previous occasions. Having read Plini, whilst doing Latin, I know a bit about Pompeii and am fully aware of the consequnces of the next erruption. But the end of the world predictions highlighted earlier were related to a sequence of events, starting with the Icelandic Volcano, followed by Vesuvius, followed by the one in the Carribean. People are talking about a sequence of events happening which points to the end of the world. All we have so far is a volcano in Iceland, so if that is the basis of the prediction, then it was bound to come to fruition one day. When Vesuvius goes (which should be within 3 months according to the prophecy), then I may start to worry, but until then, I think we'll be OK.
  17. It's a Nato commitment, so technically we have to, but our involvement does not HAVE to be to the level provided. But Cleggy doesn't have an issue with it, so don't worry about it.
  18. Well, with all these peace loving CND badge wearing socialists in the labour party, only 23 asked for a debate on it last year..... http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brown-appeals-to-labour-mps-over-afghan-war-1824121.html Still, Clegg hasn't got a problem with it as he slide's under Fraudon's duvet. Spin it how you like comrade, but you can't blame the tories for this one.
  19. With body bags arriving back on a daily basis?
  20. ..... and Cleggy wants to get into bed with those warmongerers that don't even put it to parliament?
  21. What, you mean we are at war and not one MP voted for it???
  22. Look we could go on forever, but as it happens, that war is over and Bliar is no longer. So lets move on....to Afghanistan. Now, shall we discuss how many MP's of any political affiliation voted for, against or abstained with regards to the war in Afghanistan?????
