  1. Just looking at the table I notice that Saints need to beat Palace 6 0 to go above them. So that's the target then We can't keep having bad games can we
  2. I should have put in 'hope', because at the moment we look as rank as any. I think it's pretty obvious that Norwich, Watford, Burnley, Leeds, and Newcastle will all be in the mix with Saints. I think Saints will have just enough to avoid being one of the three to go down...... I hope.
  3. Actually I suspect we'll survive this season. There really are three rank sides this year. However next year looks ominous. We are falling behind a number of Championship sides in investment now. It is short journey to being a Stoke, Forest, or Swansea. Grim times I fear.
  4. At the moment imo that is Stephens. I accept that isn't great. However a dominant tall CB is required asap.
  5. Struggling to argue with that. I think you may be a little harsh. He does jump on I agree but his interceptions are good At least he cares, I live in hope he'll develop.
  6. Not sure what you've based that on. As soon as he came on the defence was stiffened and a dreaded cricket score was avoided It was nevertheless dire stuff. Rubbish goalie. Can't save or kick. Diallo too easily bypassed. Tella and Livramento constantly lost the ball and Broja was utterly disinterested. Ralph messed up the subs again, bringing Lyanco on way too late and Elyounoussi too early. Things were that bad we needed Long on the pitch. First time I've heard the crowd go for Ralph. Chants of 'you don't know you're doing' started towards the end. His days are numbered if that continues. Livramento needs a rest. Put KWP on the right and Perraud on the left. Salisu. Stephens at the back. Romeu and JWP in the middle. That will look more balanced.
  7. That was just so inevitable. Why can we not close our these games. Just felt so depressing. Brighton are an efficient boring side, it was never going to be an easy win. However, having got our noses in front that win should have been secured. What's particularly annoying is that yet again it was game management, fitness management, and leadership on the pitch that cost us. The latter is the major one for me. None of that costs money. Some of this is on Ralph, some on the players. Monday morning should be about reflection, diagnosis, and how to put it right. A draw isn't a disaster so move on to the next game.
  8. Price relates to money laid not our chances. Just bookies making a book. Soon go down if people take that price. Bookies like an edge.
  9. I think that's a bit harsh. He was definitely the best of the three CHs yesterday, but obviously that isn't saying much. I agree his positioning can be iffy but as you say that may be his instructions. However his anticipation and interceptions are good. I guess we'll see of he develops the other aspects of his game. A bigger culprit was Tino. His defending was shocking at times. Combine that with Bendarek woeful efforts, it is no surprise that Liverpool ripped us to shreds. No way would Stephens have allowed that to go on. Hope he is fit soon.
  10. Good grief that is word for word the conversation we had in the car on the way home. I expected to lose to Liverpool, most do. A 2 or 3 0 loss would have been palatable. Hopefully a goal for Saints to show some bite and a couple of strong performances to give a bit of hope for the more competitive upcoming games. That game was lost in a horrible first half. The 2nd was ok although it looked like Liverpool took their foot off the gas. You have to look for positives ..... err.... Well I thought Lyanco looked ok. He saved the day on a few occasions. Tella looked very bright and caused Liverpool issues. Our best player KWP sits on the bench. Madness Armstrong is a worry, he should have clicked by now. Worrying that the fans were calling for Long by the end. Oh well had worse days move on.
  11. In fairness Ralph put his hands up and fully accepted it was the wrong decision. That doesn't excuse it but let's hope he learns.
  12. In fairness he is doing ok, Salisu and Bendarek are struggling.
  13. Hey never too old
  14. Good grief it's cold up here. Bit of a mental lineup against Liverpool but hey it might work.
  15. I think he is still getting to grips with the style of football in the UK. That will take time and he needs to communicate with the other 2 CBs. He is clearly a dynamic player. He really goes for it and has good anticipation. His passing and attacking threat add a new dimension as well. Time will tell whether he is good enough to maintain a place, but he isn't a disaster.
  16. Just back M27 closed, had to go old school route. Great win, I was worried Villa would up their game against Saints. Backs against the wall and all out. That lasted 3 minutes😀 Great 1st half. Some lovely football. They were always going to go for it 2nd half as they are no mugs. Saints got down and ugly and comfortably held Villa at bay. Villa should have been down to 10. Utter bottle job from the ref. Great shift from Adams and I like the cut of Lyanco's jib. Don't think Bendarek does though. Dropped him right in it at the end.
  17. Nobody is doubting how good Salisu looks at the moment. Absolute gem in the making, but there is a long way to go. Saints are clearly following the Dortmund model, and will sell big at some point. That model also includes having a replacement ready. When Newcastle spend big in January, they'll go for experience and big names. Mings, Coady, Tarkowski, or any number of Italians, are more likely to be on their radar. Anyway if they really want Salisu, please make a cheque out for £100 million.
  18. I agree with that, except A Armstrong. I thought he did well. His pace caused the Chelsea defence all sorts of issues. Think we need to be patient with him.
  19. If injury time had gone on any longer I'd have collapsed. It was brilliant, they threw everything at Chelsea. 2000+ Saints fans roaring them on and they really responded. Salisu was MOTM for me by a country mile. I think we are just getting use to his performances. Going to be hard to keep him. Lyanco played very well, knackered at the end but boy does he care. Love his passion. I saw him live at Sheffield and you could see there was a player in there. He just needs time to adjust to the EPL. Forster had a very good game, but the contract situation means he is on his way. We just have to live with that. Nobody has mentioned KWP he was fabulous. His covering tackle at the death was seismic. He has to play. Really positive night. Result was a shame but we had a lot of 2nd string players out there so to go so close remains creditable. Had a lot worse nights at Stamford Bridge. Negatives are Walcott. I'm afraid time has caught up with him. Valery had some good moments and had a hand in the goal. However in defense he was a weak link, that was very clear. Lyanco needs a Prem game soon and I'd like to see Armstrong team up with Broja. I need a lie down after that. COYS
  20. Annoying result but (and I'm grasping here) it does at least keep Burnley below Saints. There can be no doubt we are in a relegation dog fight this year, results like this keep our head above water. October and I'm already looking at results this way 😲 So Watford next ..... oh
  21. I genuinely can't remember. Sheffield last year i think. That can't be right can it
  22. The cold hard truth is that if Saints were taken over by the Saudis, the majority of fans would be reacting the same as Newcastle fans. As far as I am concerned they'll be just another fat cat club I can enjoy Saints upsetting on a few occasions. To keep things regional, I wouldn't be surprised to see Sky push a minted owner our way or more likely Bristol. Personally I'm not bothered. I don't care which league Saints are in (well I do but you get my point). I'll enjoy watching them wherever. The Championship certainly isn't a bad league, and we can't be far from a PL2 now. A back door way to a super league.

    Injury Watch

Well thats an opinion you are entitled to on Redmond. Various managers, pundits, and a fair few on here disagree. Don't get me wrong I'd prefer a better option. Let's agree on Tino, hell of a talent. Watch Newcastle offer 100 million now.
  24. I missed out Paine, Channon, Keegan, Davies, and Chivers. Its hard to project these players forward as football was so different then. On reflection I'd select Chivers over Shearer. However I couldn't drop any of Ball, Case, Williams, or LeTissier for them, or the likes of Pahars or Ecklund. So hard. Not even Newcastle could afford that team!
  25. You never saw Golac play then. Would walk into any team. Well charge whilst scattering other players.
