True. Skin provides an effective barrier to viruses and bacteria but cuts and mucous membranes (lips, bits, eyelids etc) don't. So if someone sneezes a tiny aerosol of spit can can easily get in your eye. In any event many people on the street are wearing particulate masks -okay for sanding your wooden floor but little effect against infections. Even then they have to fit properly. Many people have gaps at the sides around the nose - and air will always take the path of least resistance.
  2. Should have closed the curtains
  3. Is that a euphemism?
  4. Still confused, or still lying. Which is it? The Treasury report showed a number of options with all the figures were based on 15 years after Brexit had been implemented - not after a vote to leave. All options were worse with the WTO producing the worst result
  5. "Using a negotiated bilateral agreement like Canada as the central assumption for the alternative, Britain would be worse off by the equivalent of £1,800 every year for every man, woman and child in Britain after 15 years, and overall GDP would be lower by 6.2%. Other options being proposed would be worse still." "There would also be a significant hit to tax receipts, equivalent to an 8p increase in the rate of income tax" https://www.gov.uk/government/news/hm-treasury-analysis-shows-leaving-eu-would-cost-british-households-4300-per-year You lied Wes. Or to be charitable, you are confused again.
  6. How far we've come in a few short years. From 'We can name our terms' to 'Yes we'll be poorer but it will be our decision to be poorer'
  7. Meh. That was just the fig leaf. Most other countries in the EU keep production in-house on national security grounds - which is a perfectly valid exemption. May chose not to do it - but that is a British problem made in Britain. Even Brexit central, the Daily Express acknowledged it. https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/936265/eu-uk-passports-security-printing-brexit
  8. I don't disagree in principle, it's just that the execution is fiendishly difficult and the value of the results uncertain.
  9. You don't know whether he did or not, and nor do I. If he did I agree that's wrong. Given his long track record working successfully with many different ministers, I doubt that is what happened. I suspect it has more to do with Sedwell refusing, rightly, to authorise the release of a Treasury costing of Labours manifesto promises because it would have compromised civil service impartiality during an election campaign.
  10. I've used this example before, but it illustrates why things like Citizen's Juries don't work, because the answer depends so much on the question phrasing and the information give. When I worked for a Health Authority we looked at prioritising healthcare resources. We asked two different groups similar questions, but the second group got more information. One example: Group 1. Do you think the NHS should prioritise healthcare for premature babies born before 24 weeks? Group 2 Do you think the NHS should prioritise healthcare for premature babies born before 24 weeks even if they are likely to be born with life limiting disabilities and need lifetime care costing an average of £1.5m Group 1 gave neonates the highest priority. Group two put them near the bottom.
  11. De La Rue cut 179 jobs in Gateshead after losing the passport contract. Weren't you one of those up in arms about jobs shifting overseas because of EU policy? But it's okay if Boris the Brave does it?
  12. It is. Wes is wrong. How unlikely is that? Plus he spelt capitalized with a Z which is an Americanism not British English. I thought we were taking back control.
  13. I have absolutely no idea, but if you google lean to strength you'll get some useful info (to my eyes anyway). Things like this lean to design for planning permission purposes http://planning.walsall.gov.uk/swift/MediaTemp/61602-33239.pdf Or this RICS roof strength calculator https://www.rightsurvey.co.uk/roof-rafters-span-tables-for-surveyors-roof-construction/
  14. The ultimate result of that is that Parliament passes laws and international agreements made but they aren't enforced or complied with on the whim of the Executive. Decision making is so much quicker and easier, only drawback is that you become an unreliable authoritarian pariah state. Ps. Before the mouth breathers start, I'm not suggesting we're there. But its a dangerous slope to begin to go down.
  15. True. But as with everything the answers you'll get will depend on who you ask. That's how you get into the situation in the first place - catering to everybody
  16. What if the minister's policy would breach legal obligations if implemented?
  17. Especially those who say 'need gone' reject reasonable offers and are still advertising it a month later.
  18. Haha. He also thinks Carpe Diem means 'seize the fish'
  19. The basic problem for the BBC is the amount it is asked to do. It runs a plethora of radio stations, tv channels and webpages for local national and global audiences. Its simultaneously expected to be an arm of the Foreign Office with global programming in 50 languages, serious but not worthy, distinct yet produce commercially popular programmes whilst capping its salary levels, produce education materials, be present on social media etc etc. In many ways its a parallel with the NHS. As more becomes possible we ask it to do more, then complain about the cost and how its become too big.
  20. You lived in Florida. Florida might be in the south but its totally different culturally. The population is largely made up from immigrants from Latin countries and the northern states. Its not part of the bible belt. In Mississippi whre she was from 60% define themselves as very religious. https://www.thoughtco.com/the-bible-belt-1434529 I used to think you were one of smarter brexit headbangers. It turns out you're as pig **** thick and ignorant as the rest
  21. Ya. Its pretty much the norm there afaik. She was from Mississippi but applies across the South. You save your front bottom for your wedding night and everything else is just 'fun' or 'fooling around'. Church still plays a part. If you cant have sex before marriage, no problem, just redefine what sex is.
  22. Jesus wept. You're beyond parody. One of those over written comedy characters nobody believes in.
  23. Not really. Johnson is still promising we can get more benefits than the Norway option but with no obligations. So yer choice is deciding whether he lying about the benefits or lying about the obligations.
