I would have been really happy to progress / win the FA Cup but the Europa League is a bit of a poisoned chalice. Theres no way this current squad could cope with an extra 14 or 15 games a season and not impact on the PL performances. The old UEFA Cup knockout system was better imo.

The league was certainly Cortese's priority and (allegedly) Pardew's failure to stick to that in going for the JPT contributed to his sacking. Maybe things will be different next year.

I was also astounded at how little the salary gap was once you accounted for everything. I took a job working from home for £18,000pa less than I was earning in London. By the time you had taken 40% tax off, £4,900pa for a season ticket, about £6 per day on coffee and paper for boring train (£1,500pa) and another £6 odd for bought lunch (£1,500pa) it worked out at about £3,000 better off per year but in exchange I got an extra 4.5 hours per day at home and an infinitely better work / life balance

Im not saying I know 10 strikers who could definitely make it -obviously signing players unproven at the highest level is a risk, but they do exist. Lambert, Michu, Sturridge have come good. People like Matej Vydra and Jordan Rhodes might.

Most of the top drawer PL strikers weren't top drawer PL strikers 3 years ago, or even a year ago. Sturridge was a so so 1 goal every 5 games player at Chelsea and sold for £12m. Saints arent realistically going to compete for players who have proven to do it at the top level, but there are plenty of players who have the capacity to come good.
