  1. The author is a knock about comedian. http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-opinion/maurice-newmans-flatearth-thinking-ignores-climate-change-facts-20140101-305h6.html
  2. You'd have to be pretty desperate to want to be a miner in Greenland. It'd probably be most peoples option of last resort.
  3. Think the scoreline flattered them a bit - though we continue to struggle to turn possession into chances and chances into goals.
  4. Most people understand the whole EU debate is about a complicated interrelated mesh of economic, trade, sovereignty, freedom of movement, regulation and taxation issues for which there is a huge ledger of costs and benefits - and three thick ****ers think the only downside to leaving will be having to get a visa for Magaluf.
  5. There are c5.5 million Brits living abroad. Can you imagine the squealing on here if other countries took some posters line and kicked out 5.5 million Brits and they came back here looking for homes, jobs and support?
  6. and if you read the links you'd understand why it isnt advantageous for them.
  7. Believe it or not most of the world isnt in the EU - you know, the other 160 countries we trade with and would have to negotiate with. The 65m population UK would not be able to negotiate as good terms as the EU with a market of 440 million.
  8. Erm because almost every country in the world has trade barriers. The EU is big enough to negotiate good terms, the UK wont be able to match those. http://www.economist.com/news/briefing/21567914-how-britain-could-fall-out-european-union-and-what-it-would-mean-making-break http://www.cer.org.uk/sites/default/files/publications/attachments/pdf/2012/buchan_swiss_norway_11oct12-6427.pdf
  9. Exactly - its not all one way. We generally lose our economically inactive, healthcare needy, older residents and replace them with young working age economic migrants. Thats not to say I dont share some of Lord D's concerns - but overall its not all negative.
  10. I guess there would be a tendering process if the land were publicly owned - but usually the land is already owned by the developer seeking planning permission (or the developer has a development agreement with the private owner). Farm land near existing towns and industrial land or offices in prime central central city sites have a far greater value as building land with planning permission - hence the term planning gain and the haggling between council and developer.
  11. Totally wrong. Social housing is mostly financed through planning gain. A developer, for example, agrees to build 30 social housing flats in exchange for planning permission for 70 private units. The trick is making them deliver real social value - in the past the social and private have all been on the same site, but there is now more pressure from developers to build 70 multi million pound apartments in Kensington and 30 low cost crappo places in Croydon.
  12. That and horse riding. Much more deadly than motorbike riding apparently.
  13. I doubt it. He speaks perfect English, apparently.
  14. probably "spray with bleach and thoroughly scour"
  15. Whats in the box? is it the invasion plans for Poland?
  16. Probably a players wife ****ging the manager, again.
  17. Shame Adkins didn't get the same benefit of the doubt.
  18. Luckily everybody seems to have put the tits and marine invertebrates away just in time.
  19. Is it the Savilles or Kardashians?
  20. Love is in the air Everywhere I look around Love is in the air Every sight and every sound
  21. and Lallana half makes it.
  22. Turing was a brilliant man unjustly treated - but the apologies for historical acts by the state seem like empty gestures to me - especially when we don't seem too bothered about making the same or worse mistakes over again. Future generations will likely find the invasion of Iraq and 1million dead more abhorrent.
  23. There's 25 years difference in social attitudes as well. Public opinion has shifted from finding it 'creepy' to wanting long prison sentences.
  24. Opinion and fishing are not the same.
  25. Maybe. With Shaw we've got a £12m player who plays like a £12m player for Saints. Its easy enough to splash that kind of money on a new player but get £3.50 worth in return.
