and C, D and E imo. If reports are accurate lots of small bombs, several of which dont go off and using ball bearings arent the work of an organised group or state. Domestic imo.

The more money her funeral costs the better imo, will be a very good piece of Keynesian economic stimulus, with all the money spent within the UK and bringing in lots of high spending foreign dignitaries and tourist generating media coverage of London. We should draw up a list of those with similar profile who whilst not quite dead, could be prevailed upon to do their bit for Britain.

Wow, another DPS immediate climb down and denial that "I never said them things".

Its true we sell a lot of arms too. A couple of years ago we were the worlds largest exporter, bigger even than the US.

You're such a hysterical twonk - a forum leader, possibly world class, with a healthy dose of hypocrisy towards claiming benefits thrown in. Not only that but you dont even have a grasp of facts, just random kneee jerk exclamations based on 29.73% of FA. Tourettes without the swearing. Please, I beg you, threaten to leave the UK like Paul Daniels and Phil Collins. Britain is still the 6th largest manufacturer in the world by value added, ahead of places like France, South Korea, Brazil, India, Russia. Not bad when there are 200 countries and we only have the 22nd biggest population. But because you dont see many of the products in the shops then they dont exist to you. Clue, stuff in shops is normally low value commodity, not the area of business best to be in in a high wage economy. World class products? Aeronautics (engines, wings and the brains of planes), pharmaceuticals (inc three of the worlds best selling drugs), medical equipment, oil & gas technology, luxury yachts.

Was it? Which is more evil - maintaining a system by which nearly half the population are denied access by the NI government to the employment, education and housing enjoyed by the other half or rebelling against that when peaceful protest had been tried but shot down? Where do you stand on the Syrian uprising? or is that "aaah but thats different coz its not Britain and they're foreign?"
-
Amen. The conditions Catholics had to live under in a part of the UK run by a sectarian protestant NI government were abhorrent and led directly to the civil rights movement. British troops were welcomed by the Catholics as independent guarantors of fairness - until the Uk political leadership decided that the army should only work in support of the hated civilian administration and RUC in NI. Lets not be under any illusions, you can hate the actions the IRA carried out - but the responsibility for the unjust social conditions which created the IRA in the first place lay squarely with British policy in Ireland

Britain was a mess in 1979 and needed Thatcher. She should have stopped after two terms and her legacy would have been kinder, but then thats true of Blair and all PMs. They should all be made to stop after 8 years by statute.

The trouble is that this is more than likely what see wants. Instead of resigning from a job you dont want to do anymore its becoming more and more common to position yourself so you are given a very nice compromise agreement to go away.

Although George Osbourne is an unsufferable arse...

"Contrary to Internet folklore, Dr. Kamerschen is NOT the author of "Tax Cuts: A Simple Lesson in Economics" or “Bar Stool Economics” or anything similar to that. Additionally, he does NOT know who wrote it and he has no opinion on its merits." http://davidk.myweb.uga.edu/ -
The deicimated ones. You can't get a job if you've been decimated and are gone.
-
Exactly! They're 90% gone, making them hard to spot.

What a beautiful song that is, written fior his friend who died in a house fire. Perfect lyrics and mood for a funeral.

Thats the whole point though - the budget deficit is so vast it cant be tackled by some budget cuts and going after tax avoidance. The cause of the budget deficit was economic slowdown and recession. The only way it will be resolved is by restarting economic growth, and all that the few billions being trimmed from budgets here and there are doing is perpetuating the recession. Yes there is very little room for error and yes Gordon Brown should have paid down far more debt when the economy was booming, but we are where we are. Osbourne had a chance to stimulate the economy with some socially beneficial works which recycled nearly all the public expenditure back into the economy through less unemployment benefit, workers paying tax and spending in shops. What he should have done is classic Keynsian multiplier public building works (insulating houses, new houses and roads). Instead he was practically criminally negligent, stupid with his self interested chasing of a few votes. All the pain of budget cuts has been and delayed economic growth has been for what? so Osbourne can blow the meagre savings made on crappy tax cuts on booze and petrol and subsisdise loans to reinflate the still vastly overpriced UK housing market. And its overpriced why?, um lack of supply and new house building.

Technical middle class. Trousers will be upset.

You're right trousers, we're paying working people at the bottom of the heap far too little. We need a living wage to enable them to pay fair levels of tax.

Its a very small log.

Leeds would have been a better long term bet for him. I wouldn't be surprised if Leeds approached him about the job but NA said there wasn't a vacancy so there wasn't anything to talk about.

I'm not sure that's true. Its the medium sized countries with few natural resources that have the biggest problem. You can support a few million people with a couple of industries like Scotch whisky, a bit of oil and gas and some wind / hydro power. Britain got successful on intellectual capital and invention - much easier to do when you are one of the few countries in the world with universities and 99% literacy. Much more difficult to feed and clothe 60 million people when everyone else has caught up.

Global warming really is happening... (well, duh!)

Cant someone just run Clarkson over? He stopped being funny about the same time as his waist exceeded his jeans by three sizes -
There was a video piece on CNN by an American reporter who couldnt work out why the residents of Seoul were so calm and unconcerned, especially when they are only 40 miles from the demilitarised zone. "The north dont want war, they want money and food" appeared to be the answer. The more they sabre rattle (although they may have pushed too hard this time) the more aid they get.

Good post Turkish, and exactly right. I left school at 16 thinking I could earn money, get experience, get promoted and have five years jump start on those who stayed on for A levels and degree. Some false starts and lots of crappy jobs at TAV (agency ) proved that wrong. I was lucky enough to find a University which would take me as a mature student at 24 without A levels. Although the subject of my degree is irrelevant for the large majority of jobs, it was nonetheless an easy indicator to recruiters that you are reasonably bright and can stick at something for three years. I actually think most employers attach far too much importance to a degree and would be far better off using psychometric testing for mental agility and practical problem solving tests to assess ability in the kinds of issues found in the job on offer. There are loads of very able and experienced people who didnt go to University for a variety of reasons. That approach is pretty uncommon though and looking for a degree is usually HR's first filter when shortlisting.

Its less pervy to fancy Taylor Swift than knowing the personal sexual preferences of an 18 year old boy.
