Didnt Heather Mills cost £64m? Imagine how much more if she'd had two legs.
-
By that logic DD it would make sense for the Government to give 100,000 people £5m each and the tax they paid, plus the employment they created would be enough to pay the bills.

Allowing kids freedom of expression and a large measure of self determination is a great idea - as long as they can expect to earn their living independently without having to fit into the rules, expectations and team work most of us have to operate within. Montessori (or Steiner) schools make for a great environment for a six year old, disaster for a 14 year old imo.

Que?? Pompey have a lower attendance on every applicable measure. It is true that old fashioned stadiums like FP (and the Dell) tend to generate more noise, due to being closer to the pitch - but the Pompey fans dont create a better atmosphere - unless by that you mean 'fug'.
-
Have you tried private employment agencies like Manpower Pap? Normally got a good supply of humdrum short term jobs (tide you financially over and get her back into being seen as 'employed' when applying for better jobs).

Party politics aside, Brown was bright but wrong. George is thick and wrong!

Everytime I do an exercise like this Im amazed at how much we trough through with little 'concrete' to show for it. Part of me wants to pay off the mortage and contribute more to pension and part wants to do something fun and different almost every weekend while the kids are young.

* Wow. George has united the media across the spectrum. It takes a special kind of incompetence to do that

Married to Joshua Rozenberg. Can you imagine how much fun dinner round their house would be?

Taxing anybody half their income is a little immoral, Id rather the top tax rate was 40%. The problem isnt tax rates, its the fact that some people are paid hugely inflated wages unrelated to performance. FTSE100 directors pay has gone up three times faster than any other group since 2000 - despite profits and share prices being largely static. People who run their own businesses are entitled to unfettered rewards. By contrast paid employees like Bob Diamond of Barclays who take no personal risk, get paid £14m pa and receive payoffs big enough to retire on whether a success or failure are as big a parasite on the UK as benefits cheats imo.
-
A report into the highest rate, introduced by Labour in 2010, had found it had raised just a third of the £3bn initially predicted, Mr Osborne said. "No chancellor can justify a tax rate that damages our economy and raises next to nothing." So a billion pounds is next to nothing. Odd then that he has introduced a new tax on properties over £2m which according to Savills will raise £314m. A cynic might think that many Tory MPs were being hit by the 50% tax rate but have no plans to sell their home counties inherited piles.

Sounds to me like Birch has struck a deal to sell Fratton. As there are almost no other tangible assets there is no point in liquidating the club to release them.

Mebbe. Im not setting myself up as the paragon of free thought and insight. Its just a lot of people seem so led by whats trending on twitter, what they've read, watched on Top Gear or seen on an ad. A lot of people will tell you the only phone to have is Apple and everthying else is ****e (despite having said the same about Blackberry two years ago). Only German cars are any good (despite many of them being made in Belgium and Spain) and that Vauxhalls are ****e (despite most of them being made in Germany). People arent turning up to watch Pompey because they are seen as uncool and failures now. Not the case a couple of years ago - what happened to all those 'fans?' Whatever happened to making your own calls and judgements instead of whats marketed to you? Its a pretty shallow trend imo. Maybe its an old fart thing.

Slightly off at a tangent but it says something about herdlike people have become. So many people lack confidence in their own judgment they feel they must associate themselves with 'success' lest be be seen as losers.

My cat is called coco. Your post brings up very unpleasant images.

No. The Chelsea disciplinary tree goes like this: First team player shoots somebody. Fine Up and coming youngster brings smoke grenade in and lets it off. Fine Youngster going nowhere lets smoke grenade off with otther player. Sack.
-
What?? Above the Japanese schoolgirls holding placards have no right to smile at SMS thread? You crazy.
-
Two players involved in it. They sacked the one they wanted rid of and fined the one they wanted to keep.

I understand some of your points DD. If it had happened to a famous older face after a night on the beer and coke then you wouldnt get the same degree of reaction. For a young, superfit guy to effectively drop dead in front of 35,000 people and a live tv audience of 10 million - it makes it real and immediate. It's a massive wakeup call to those of us older, pie and beer in hand, not take anything for granted. Hence the degree of reaction imo.

His heart was stopped for two hours, that is unheard of. It is nothing short of incredible that they brought him back and if he survives without damage it is a huge tribute to everyone who looked after him.

I can understand you grappling with Japanese school girls, but what you going to do next season about the fat accountants and area sales managers who turn up in hospitality to watch 'platinum category' matches against Man U whilst sipping sancerre and chanting, half a beat late, 'come home you Saints' ?
