Thats the flip answer, but its not true - its still you who is left with the problem. Tatts dont bother me, imo most of them are chavvy, but they dont bother me as an individual. Would I hire somebody who had visable tatts for any kind of customer facing or responsible job? probably not because many people dont like them and why take the hassle when you can find someone else who doesnt.

Is VAT payable on ticket prices? I assume it is.

Not sure about this. The risk is they would just sack him on grounds of incapacity. IMO you shouldn't mention the muscular dystrophy or self harm - just the depression brought on by the job - and negotiate an exit from there. Probably well worth getting an hours advice from a specialist employment lawyer or trade union rep though.

Does Anyone Else Want to Hit Jack Whitehall with a Spanner?

No idea who Jack Whitehall is. So the answer has to be 'no'. I still have Sky but never watch Sky 1. -

Its true it would be fatal to default on our debt. We'd lose far more than we save. I still dont get quantitative easing though. As far as I understand it is printing our own money and buying bonds with it. Whether those bonds are the UKs own debts, or corporate debt it means that by printing the cash we have either bought £200bn worth of assets for nothing, or saved ourselves from taking on another £200bn of debt. Whats not to like? Lets do it again, pay off some more debt, create a bit of inflation and erode a big chunk of the rest. -

Hardly abnormal though is it? Its the county town of Dorset. A small town with the County Council HQ, Police HQ and the county hospital - all covering about 700,000 million people. It will be the same in Lewes in Sussex. Should be more worried about the cities up north and in Scotland where over 40% of a population of 1 million work for public services and another 20% are unemployed. -

The only thing I know worth passing on is that you should aim to get a house in an area where people live year round. A lot of the rentals available will be in areas where the majority of the houses are holiday homes with few local amenities.

There are savings obviously in cutting back state employment, but not as much as you'd expect. Besides income tax you lose their NI contributions, most of the VAT on things they would have bought and council tax, then if they have a family you might have to pay out £15,000pa or more on benefits. Plus the public sector employer will likely still have the same fixed costs in buildings, utilities etc. You really only save much money when you release people into a buoyant employment market when they can be absorbed by the private sector - hence the Keysian argument for counter cyclical public spending - cut back in good times, spend in bad. -

Yonks ago when most people were a little less IT savvy I used to do computer maintenance for DPCE who had the contract with BT. Fully 90% of problems turned out to be 1. not switched on at mains. 2. Cables had come loose or 3. Monitor switched off.

I run a small sweatshop in Southampton. If each poster could pop over and give me a free hours labour I'd be grateful. Its not much to ask from each of you 3,000 and it would make a lot, sorry mean a lot, to me

I dont see the logic in this. Either the aircraft carriers are needed, in which case the planes should be ready at the same time as the carriers, or we can do without them and you might as well scrap the whole project. Building them just so they can sit around, cost money, deteriorate, but be useless seems to be the worst possible solution.

Anyway, increasingly 'Japanese' goods are actually made in China. BMW have factories in South Africa and China. VW has factories all over the world and only a minority of cars a\re made in Germany. All multinational companies have governments by the short and curlies, threatening to relocate if taxes approach anywhere near what they should be - and its true - its very easy for a company with a presence in many markets to simply relocate its head office to the one with the most attractive (ie lowest) tax regime.
