  1. Now that is pretty...

  3. It was £50 for a 'mini hamper' (Smallish Roasting joint, sausages, minced boar meat and loin chops). Not cheap but should be worth it for the taste.
  4. Wild Boar delivered direct from this chap: http://www.thewildboarman.co.uk/ No filling the pockets of supermarket boardroom fat cats here.
  5. Have Pompey started paying back their debts or something....?
  6. http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/clutch+at+straws clutch/grasp at straws 1. to try any method, even those that are not likely to succeed, because you are in such a bad situation (usually in continuous tenses) 2. to try to find reasons to feel hopeful about a situation when there is no real cause for hope (usually in continuous tenses) No more questions your honour.
  7. My understanding is that it takes (on average) one hour for half a pint of 'normal' strength beer (3 - 4%) to leave your body. A few years back the Met Police were doing a 'breathalyser roadshow' around London offices at Christmas and I'd had about 4 pints at lunchtime. We stopped off in the office foyer to have a go on the breathalyser and I and a few others passed! Suffice to say that I've treated that as a one-off and will always stick to the published limits.
  8. Gamble... It's a valid hypothetical question. A bit like 'Deal or No Deal'....you've just been offered £10,000 (= a play-off place) by the banker but the £100,000 and £250,000 (= automatic promotion) are still up on the board. Do you take the £10k now or gamble that the big numbers stay on the board for the remainder of the game (= season)....?
  9. I would first find out whether minor traffic infringements can be pursued across international borders.
  10. Interesting piece. Stand-out extract: How will we handle future football club administrations? What will we do differently in future? Can we still make a football rescue work? We really hope so, but this is what we will do differently another time - At the outset we will be realistic with everyone – fans, creditors, players and staff, prospective buyers – we will spell out exactly what the prospects are for a rescue. The market has changed and is getting worse, we can no longer assume we can find buyers for football clubs.
  11. Jolly good job AA hasn't made any mention whatsoever of PFC2010's predictament in his dealings with CSI's administration in that case....doh... Tick, tock, tick, tock....
  12. Pompey fan in thinking that irony can only be exhibited by words and not actions shocker...

  15. Someone might like to point BDO's head of forensic accounting in the general direction of this thread..... contact details: http://www.bdo.uk.com/find-a-partner/mike-mason
  16. I'm not condoning 'tax avoidance' per se but if these companies didn't/couldn't avoid paying these taxes wouldn't they simply increase the cost of their goods and services to cover the shortfall in profits. So, the 'average man in the street' loses out regardless?
  17. People standing in the middle of a pavement (a.k.a. throroughfare) whilst waiting for a bus. Don't give me a reason to clatter into you as hard as I can. FFS.
  18. Piers Morgan now being interviewed live by the Levenson Enquiry. He's squirming and ducking more than your average Pompey administrator.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10318089
  19. I've pondered on the same topic several times this season and I think you've probably hit the nail on the head with your last question there. I would imagine that we'd have played more youngsters if we'd had more of an average start to the season. There again, who knows.

  21. Top post. Sums it up nicely.
  22. How on Earth do you come to that far fetched conclusion...? ;-)
  23. I guess the counter argument would be that if a white fella was 'playing up' he would, typically, be called a 'bastard' rather than a 'white bastard', thus implying that there was something worse about being a bastard AND being black. But I tend to agree with you about observation often being twisted into racism.
  24. Why would a club that was financially self-sufficient, and not wholly dependent on it's ailing parent company, be subject to a transfer embargo? There must be something I'm missing here... ;-)
