  1. I must admit, I did think it was unusual for a postponed game to be brought forward when the original re-arranged date was set. Perhaps Charlton argued that it was "unfair" for a game to be played earlier than originally scheduled, and at relatively short notice, as I'm sure teams start the early stages of the planning process for each game a bit more than 2 or 3 weeks beforehand (e.g. going to watch opponent's preceding games)
  2. Yeah, but we'll be knackered when it comes to the semi-final in mid-April..... ;-)
  3. Maybe that's not the reason....?
  4. This is going to bugger up our FA Cup Semi-Final planning now....sheesshh
  5. A cynical conspiracy theorist might venture that Charlton have one or two 'marquee' signings lined up for the end of the month and didn't want to play us beforehand....or some players coming back from injury....
  6. officialsaints Saints FC Addicks Date Switched – Again! Saints home match vs Charlton has been moved for a second time. Full story -> http://bit.ly/gnhNWK #saintsfc "The Football League initially agreed the date of Tuesday 25th January, however, upon request from Charlton, reconsidered this and a new date has now been set for Tuesday 5th April, kick off 7.45pm." Mind games from Charlton....?
  7. Match preview on OS http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/PreviewDetail/0,,10280~2265403,00.html Saints will check on Dean Hammond and Adam Lallana's fitness after the midfield duo picked up knocks during the week. However, Jason Puncheon should return after illness. There are no other concerns for Nigel Adkins ahead of the match against fellow form side Notts County.
  8. Nail on head. Which is why Cortese won't sell him (for anything less than REALLY silly money) if he doesn't want to leave. I think we can safely say that IF he does leave for anything south of £10m it won't be for the money.
  9. If a 'loan back' deal is hatched this would get Cortese off the hook (so to speak) as it wouldn't completely undermine his "Alex isn't going anywhere in January" statement. Technically, he would be keeping his word. Hmmm...

You've got me worried now with that startling revelation. Please reassure me that the Pope is still a Catholic...? ;-) Btw, how is the outgoing convicted election fraudster Labour MP Mr Woollas these days...? ;-) And I thought I had a short memory.., ;-) And I thought I had a short memory.... And I thought I had a short memory....
  11. ;-) Fwiw, the test harnesses we have at work easily reach 10,000 TPS (banking transactions per second) using a bog standard 16 CPU Windows server, so not too shabby.
  12. The match day threads provide one of the more entertaining aspects of this messageboard (yes, my life is sad and I should get out more!) I'm sure there's a computer somewhere that can handle a few megabytes of data in a two hour period. It was the 21st century the last time I looked. I have Paul Allen's phone number if that helps...? ;-)
  13. And there was me thinking left wing people were a kind hearted and benevolent species rather than nasty sweeping-statement judgementalists... ;-)

I agree with some of your observations but what narks me most about the 'bonus bashing' mantra of the british public and media is that it's labelled a 'nasty Tory' phenomena. But, remind me, what did Labour do about the bonus culture between 1997 and 2010? By all means, bash the Tories for doing nowt about it now but let's not airbrush recent history at the same time. If the Tories had knighted one of the worst culprits in the banking industry we wouldn't have heard the last of it...
  15. Ever since the Labour Party got soft on crime I steal my copy from the illegal immigrant paperboy on the walk to my privatised train in the morning.
  16. And who in power was keeping an eye on what the bankers were doing at the time they "f***ed up" per chance....? If a parent leaves a 5 year old kid alone in the lounge with a box of matches and the house burns down, who's to blame...?
  17. You could well be right. I concur that my 'evidence' that the train service has got better as a result of privatisation is somewhat circumstantial. I guess we could compare my train service to another service that hasn't been privatised over the same period of time and see how that has fared. The Post Office perhaps? Privatisation isn't always the answer but often it is (in my experience).
  18. Lallana's injury will develop a complication and put him out of action for 6 months. Chamberlain will go to Chelsea after Cortese pushes the price up to £20m Adkins will lured to be manager of Liverpool next month. The Echo unearth a clause in Pulis's contract which means he has to play every remaining game of the season. Skacel finally signs after Burley is lured back to manage Saints for a second time. Cortese sells up to Rupert Lowe. Lambert goes to Crawley Town in a swap deal for Tubbs. Sorry, what was the question again? Ah, yes....when will Saints get to the top of League One? 26th October 2036. Good evening.
  19. Yes. Exactly like that. I've commuted to London for 25 years now so speak from a fairly experienced vantage point. My train service today is exponentially better than it was when I first started commuting in 1986.
  20. Privatisation is as much about installing a lean efficient management structure as it about making profits (although the two often go hand in hand) If the industry is well regulated and the companies retain franchises on performance based measures then it can be a win win for all concerned. I'm not saying privatisation is perfect but if regulated and monitored properly it is an effective way of running a service.
  21. Paint a picture for me of a country that caps it's maxium wage at £144k.
  22. I keep telling people that Cortese categoriically said in December that Chamberlain wasn't leaving in the January transfer window. Have faith people :-)
