Thanks Colchester. Much obliged :-)

There's a train of thought that says that having another 'hard to beat' club in the top 2 will do us a favour as they will (hopefully) beat some of the clubs trying to catch us. It's then a simple of matter of us winning a couple of more games than Brighton do in order to secure the title....Easy.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/burnley/9360426.stm Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe to leave for Burnley Burnley will name Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe as their new manager, BBC Radio Solent reports. The 33-year-old said on Tuesday that he intended to stay at Dean Court after being linked with vacancies at Charlton and Crystal Palace. But he informed his players on Friday morning that he will join the Clarets after that evening's game at Colchester - his 100th game in charge.

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one. I'm simplying sharing my 25 years experience of commuting on the Waterloo - Basingstoke service. I'm not forcing anyone to take it into account when forming their opinions. I can say hand-on-heart that it is now a much more reliable service and my gut feel is that privatisation has had a part to play in that outcome. We'll never know whether it would have been better, the same or worse had it stayed nationalised. I have my hunches but that's all they are. I'll concede on the South Eastern observation though - their punctuality is still pretty poor - I use their service from Waterloo East to London Bridge (btw, any idea how their current 80.04% compares with previous years, pre and post privatisation?). But again, neither of us have any tangible evidence to say it would be better or worse if was still nationalised.

Not my favourite Tory but he did break ranks (of sorts) on the bankers' bonus furore.

Actually, ignore me....that Charlton quote is about the original date (29th), not the first rescehduled date (25th). The Charlton article today doesn't even mention the original rescheduled date so perhaps it was never confirmed by the Football League in the first place....? Taxi for Trousers
-
It makes sense from a 'resting the players' perspective (if we want to concentrate on the cup that week for some unfathomable reason.....) but it's not a good enough reason for the Football League I'd have thought - playing on a Tuesday and Saturday is pretty normal stuff these days. Indeed, Man Utd have a game midweek anyway.... Hey ho
-
Hmmm....the plot thickens....both sides being very categoric that it was the other who requested the swap.... Saints: "The Football League initially agreed the date of Tuesday 25th January, however, upon request from Charlton, reconsidered this and a new date has now been set for Tuesday 5th April, kick off 7.45pm." Charlton: "The Saints are unable to host the Addicks on Saturday, January 29th because they have progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup and are due to face Manchester United that weekend instead."
-
I must admit, I did think it was unusual for a postponed game to be brought forward when the original re-arranged date was set. Perhaps Charlton argued that it was "unfair" for a game to be played earlier than originally scheduled, and at relatively short notice, as I'm sure teams start the early stages of the planning process for each game a bit more than 2 or 3 weeks beforehand (e.g. going to watch opponent's preceding games)
-
Yeah, but we'll be knackered when it comes to the semi-final in mid-April..... ;-)
-
Maybe that's not the reason....?
-
This is going to bugger up our FA Cup Semi-Final planning now....sheesshh
-
A cynical conspiracy theorist might venture that Charlton have one or two 'marquee' signings lined up for the end of the month and didn't want to play us beforehand....or some players coming back from injury....

officialsaints Saints FC Addicks Date Switched – Again! Saints home match vs Charlton has been moved for a second time. Full story -> http://bit.ly/gnhNWK #saintsfc "The Football League initially agreed the date of Tuesday 25th January, however, upon request from Charlton, reconsidered this and a new date has now been set for Tuesday 5th April, kick off 7.45pm." Mind games from Charlton....?

Match preview on OS http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/PreviewDetail/0,,10280~2265403,00.html Saints will check on Dean Hammond and Adam Lallana's fitness after the midfield duo picked up knocks during the week. However, Jason Puncheon should return after illness. There are no other concerns for Nigel Adkins ahead of the match against fellow form side Notts County.

Nail on head. Which is why Cortese won't sell him (for anything less than REALLY silly money) if he doesn't want to leave. I think we can safely say that IF he does leave for anything south of £10m it won't be for the money.
-
If a 'loan back' deal is hatched this would get Cortese off the hook (so to speak) as it wouldn't completely undermine his "Alex isn't going anywhere in January" statement. Technically, he would be keeping his word. Hmmm...

You've got me worried now with that startling revelation. Please reassure me that the Pope is still a Catholic...? ;-) Btw, how is the outgoing convicted election fraudster Labour MP Mr Woollas these days...? ;-) And I thought I had a short memory.., ;-) And I thought I had a short memory.... And I thought I had a short memory....

;-) Fwiw, the test harnesses we have at work easily reach 10,000 TPS (banking transactions per second) using a bog standard 16 CPU Windows server, so not too shabby.

The match day threads provide one of the more entertaining aspects of this messageboard (yes, my life is sad and I should get out more!) I'm sure there's a computer somewhere that can handle a few megabytes of data in a two hour period. It was the 21st century the last time I looked. I have Paul Allen's phone number if that helps...? ;-)
