Southampton Football Club ("the Club") wishes to make clear that it is continuing its discussions with a number of potential candidates for the post of First Team Manager. Contrary to some highly misleading comments published this morning, the Club has made no ultimatums, has not made any approaches without appropriate permissions, and is fully aware that appropriate compensation payments become due where the candidate managers are currently under contract. The Club has acted in an entirely professional manner and will continue to do so. No further comment will be made on this matter until the Club has appointed a new First Team Manager.

Are candidates still being interviewed because Cortese doesn't have his man yet or is Cortese interviewing everyone who made the shortlist as a matter of course and courtesy to the applicants, even if he's pretty much made up his mind that he's giving the job to one of the earlier interviewees? I've been a flag waver for Keegan but must admit I'm coming around to the notion of a more low key appointment the more I think about it. On reflection, I think you're right - the last thing we probably need this season is a media circus that comes with a 'headline grabbing' appointment. As you say, there's enough 'big club' pressure affecting us already. Therefore...welcome Mr Adkins. (assuming it's him of course!)

The apologies to sfc1971 are reminiscent of the apologies that everyone kept dishing out to HelpMeRonda in 2007.....until their true identity was revealed. Of course, in this instance, sfc1971 may well be completely genuine.

The key times appear to be "last night" and "09:30 this morning"....

You could always ask a general question about the running of the hotel that his daughter would know about (e.g. what did the manager have for breakfast? Or What teabags did Jill on reception always have at break times - herbal or chinese leaf?) but wouldn't give her identity away.... :-) But there again, how would we know for sure that you worked there too...? All a bit complicated this ITK business.... :-)

My theory is that the longer it goes unannounced (within reason) the 'better' the outcome is likely to be as it implies there are more complications that need tieing up and I would associate 'complications' with bigger names rather than run-of-the-mill names. Just my humble opinion of course.

The author starts off in 'sensationalist conjecture' mode before concluding that "other more understandable factors" (or words to that effect) may be involved in Pardew's departure. Nothing new to see here....
