Given we won the game 2-1 with an MLT goal, if that's how we performed when a player wasn't 'focused on the game' then just think how bloomin' brilliant we would have been with 100% concentration.

Good news. Congratulations Oscar.

Indeed. I put forward such a theory on page 1 or 2 of this thread a couple of days ago. You can picture the scene now... Publisher: "Matt, there's nothing controversial in here. Any suggestions as to what we could add to spice it up a bit?" Matt: "hmm....not sure....hang on, there was that time I nearly got caught up in a betting scam but decided to give it a wide berth" Publisher: "sounds interesting, tell us more" Matt: "well, they wanted me to boot the ball out from the kick off to win a spread bet but I told them where to go" Publisher: "hang on....As it was so long ago, how about we tell the story as if it happened....should get us a few more books sold....no harm done eh?" Matt: "hmmm, not sure about that. But you're the publishing experts....if you say it's ok and the lawyers give it the green light then I guess there's nothing to lose" Publishers: "ok, sorted. Leave it with us"

Can someone explain the actual mechanics involved in securing a work permit approval? In other words, what do the relevant Government approval department(s) actually do, other than push pens across the desk for 10 or so days before signing the approval? For example, is it like this: Day 1: Receive work permit application from SFC Day 2: Have a cup of coffee and biscuits Day 3: Remember application is in inbox and take a photocopy Day 4: Have a cup of coffee and biscuits Day 5: Fax work permit application to the department that actually deals with this sort of thing Day 6: Oh, it's the weekend. Take two days off. Day 7: It's still the weekend. Light the barbeque Day 8: Phone the department you faxed the application to. They didn't receive it. Fax again Day 9: Coffee and biscuits Day 10: Receive a phone call from the 'other department' who say they've had a butcher's on Wikipedia and it all looks in order. Day 11: Fax SFC to say that the work permit has been approved. Day 12: Phone SFC to see if they got the fax OK. They didn't, so re-send. Day 13: It's Saturday again. The confirmation came through 1 hour too late. But, fret ye not, he can play the following week Is that what actually happens?

Hallelujah. Exactly the point I was making in my post this morning about my intention to tell my 9 year old lad about this 'episode' this evening by way of moral guidance. MLT - I salute you.

Interesting. Cheers. Pardew continued: "Papa Waigo comes to us from Fiorentina and he's highly recommended. I spoke to Gianluca Nani, the General Manager at West Ham and he said that he would be very surprised if we pulled off the signing. "We've managed to do it though, and now Papa has a platform here to really push on. He'll offer real pace and athleticism to our front line, and we're looking forward to seeing him today (Friday). If his work permit comes through he could be available for Saturday. "Amongst us, we obviously have contacts at various clubs, and we've used that knowledge to assist us more than anything else so far. We have a personal connection at Fiorentina, which helped, so we're lucky to have him, but we'll only be lucky if he's a success."

Cheers, Sounds good. Might be worth asking this chap if he has an insight into why he fell short of Fiorentina's first team and got loaned out. Sounds like his natural level might be CCC rather than Premiership. Which, of course, is not a bad thing from our perspective at the moment!

I assume Pardew gave the nod on Waigo joining Saints before he signed rather than it being presented to him as a 'fait acomplis'?

I've decided I'm going to tell my 9 year old son all about this 'episode' tonight so he can see what a good role model MLT is. It will serve as a great example of how someone can be lead into temptation and then realise that it is wrong and not do it again. Thanks for writing about this Matt. You will help a lot of parents to keep their kids on the straight and narrow.

Totally agree. You'd have thought when God was inventing humans he'd have made them without any imperfections. Little did he realise that this fatal flaw would lead to one of his creations kicking a round bag of air off a grass field for money.

And we all know that "low level" crime, such as stealing a sheet of paper from the office, leads to armed robbery. Eventually.
