How does a starting XI in the 1st pre-season game show that? Especially as the team is a mix of first choice players and none first choice players... plus a few players are unavailable for selection. Sure we lack numbers and quality upfront and in attacking midfield. But the squad and first XI isn't weak in some other areas.

If we do opt for 3 at the back a lot this season, perhaps the plan is for... - Bednarek to be sold - Salisu, Bella-Kotchap and Colwill as a back three - With Stephens and Lyanco as backups and Simeu out on loan

Why is picking up minor knocks in the summer fortunate? Minor knocks don't prevent players passing medicals.

They are both central midfielders, but that is the position... not the role. Romeu's role is more defensive than Winks.

They don't play in the same role. Why would Romeu or his agent pay any attention to a media rumour about Winks?

I think it is merely a sign that senior players with numbers are unlikely to be switched away from numbers they already have and they like the number. I think Bazunu will quickly become first choice and when McCarthy eventually leaves Bazunu may opt to have the number 1 shirt.
