Welington wasn't at Saints in FM24, so nothing to do with me. -

No need with Welington already here -

This had been long rumoured but neither Southampton or Göztepe have ever publically confirmed that Southampton's Juan Santos is on loan at Göztepe for a 2nd season. He played in a friendly for them yesterday.

Is this the club's way of saying it is his first day back in training (as they did similar for Manning and Smallbone)? Aribo did not play for Nigeria this summer, so does anyone know why he would get an extended holiday?

No

It wasn't lack of effort, it was lack of quality relative to the league we were in that led to the 'pitiful performances'. I haven't denied last season was dreadful or that most of the players were completely out of their depth last season. We are now in a significantly shallower end and many of our players have their 10m badge gaving already been good enough to win promotion in the shallow end.
-
If rather than just a training photo this was the club announcing Joe Aribo returned to training on 10th July like they did for internationals like Manning and Smallbone, does anyone know why he was given extended leave? As he doesn't appear to have been with Nigeria over the summer. At least not in the squad vs Russia on 6th June.

Please list the ones that aren't good enough for the top end of the Championship. I'm not denying most are out of their depth in the Premier League. Exactly!

Which of them are cringey playing at Championship level?

Throw the money how exactly? They are under contract.

Keeping Track of the Contracts 2024-25

It does not need to be one or the other. It should be both. There is no 'loss of focus' as it is a separate recruitment team for the academy teams. New appointment Mariela Nisotaki helping to lead the academy recruitment team. Saints sign Sutura Kakay to join Under-21s | Southampton FC Official Site The financial impact of signing players for the academy teams won't have any notable impact on the club's ability to sign 1st team players. Plus all it takes is for a few to work out well and it pays for itself.

Release clauses can state that they only apply up until a certain date in a transfer window. That prevents clubs being left in the lurch from losing a player late in a window.
-
Why not wait to hand out a new contract until you know?
-
Why would they extend his contract from 2026 to 2028 then? His contract was already fine for what we needed... until the end of a potential promotion season, at which point in 2026 he could leave at the end of his old contract. But they extended it to a point where we could be in the Premier League and he'd be wasting a spot in the squad. Should have left it as it was.
-
If we get promoted his wages will increase back to Premier League level, £50k+ per week. Plymouth Argyle are in League One, how would they afford that? If he was going to go to Plymouth we'd let his old contract expire in 2026, not extend it until 2028!
