He had to juggle his squad with the Europa League winning campaigns in all three of those seasons. They also had long runs in the Spanish cups.

No other club loses it key personnel consistently
Matthew Le God replied to Batman's topic in The Saints
The time to worry is not when other clubs want your players/managers, its when they don't want them. As that is a sign of a decline in quality. -
He is completely out of touch with modern football, you only need to hear him commentate on ITV to realise that. The last time he managed was 10 years ago!

I'd like to know what has led Steve to think this... Steve Grant @SteveGrant1983 23m23 minutes ago @danbsfc Unconvinced by de Boer. Emery for me, apparently interested. Going for 4 Europa League wins in a row...
-
What does that actually mean?

LEWIS COOMBES @LEWIS_C 21s21 seconds ago Just spoken to #Koeman's agent. Denied publicly saying there's an offer from #EFC, but non-committal. "Very touchy situation." #saintsfc 1/2 LEWIS COOMBES @LEWIS_C 51s52 seconds ago #Koeman's agent would only re-affirm there's an offer on table from #saintsfc. Wouldn't say anything else "His hands are tied." #efc

Are you not aware that the club has been owned by the Liebherr's and in those 7 seasons we've improved each time? Out of 92 English clubs... 09/10 51st 10/11 46th 11/12 22nd 12/13 14th 13/14 8th 14/15 7th 15/16 6th How is that lack of ambition? ffs We've gone from League One to 6th in the most high profile league in world sport!!!

I'm going to waste my 3rd and final post of the day on you. Rather than meaningless comments like that, why don't you explain what you think I've said that is wrong and why?
-
Barely enough to make any difference. JWP is clearly taller. The Saints OS says JWP is 5 foot 8 and Mane is 5 foot 9, which is clearly wrong as JWP is taller and they may not have updated JWP's height after a growth spurt. He now isn't the tiny weakling some Saints fans continue to make him out to be.
-
5 foot 8? If Ward-Prowse is 5 foot 8, how tall do you think Mane is? Ward-Prowse towers over him...
-
Really? He may be a central midfielder, but he isn't remotely like a direct replacement for what we'd miss without Wanyama. Mason is 5 foot 9 and would be a big downgrade in quality. If/when Wanyama goes I think the club will be looking for a similar style of player as a physical presence in central midfielder, Mason isn't close to being that at all. The club already has Clasie, S.Davis, JWP & Reed as smaller central midfielder, I don't see what benefit Mason would bring to the squad. I've never been particularly impressed by him.
-
I don't see how he'd fit into the squad, he'd be on big wages and would want to be a regular in our side... Left back - he'd behind Bertrand in the pecking order and we have Targett who is back-up Centre back - he'd be behind van Dijk and Fonte in pecking order Defensive midfield - If Wanyama goes I think the club will look for a similar style of a physical presence in that position, which Blind wouldn't be

That is not true, Vitesse Arnhem have a partnership deal with Chelsea. 2015/16 - 5 Chelsea players on loan 2014/15 - 3 Chelsea players on loan 2013/14 - 5 Chelsea players on loan Saints could possibly look at a Chelsea/Vitesse style partnership with clubs like Groningan or AZ. If you enter a partnership with another club you reduce or completely remove the need for paying loan fees and/or % of wages.
-
Because a football club that has been a mess for a long time (and still is) isn't a good environment for Saints youngsters to develop. As Les Reed points out; he is looking for a stable club that plays good football, has good training & Saints can monitor things. Blackpool are a complete shambles, with a toxic atmosphere around the club and it would be a terrible place to send young players.
-
Why on earth does he need to go to the Championship? He is 21 and has already played over 100 games for a team that is now an established top half side of the Premier League. Going to the Championship now would be a regression, not an aid to development. In order to be a top 6 side like we are we need a squad of quality players, Ward-Prowse won't start many games, but is still very useful at Premier League level despite what many Saints fans think and only 5 Saints players (van Dijk, S.Davis, Mane, Tadic & Fonte) featured in more games than JWP this season. If he left who fills the gametime he would be used for next season in the first team? Its central midfielders like Harrison Reed that need a loan, not JWP who has proven his worth in the Premier League. Just because he isn't a first choice starter, that doesn't mean he isn't of good quality in this league, Pochettino and Koeman seem to agree.

Southampton are hardly unique in England of being close to the sea. It is a small island and a high % of clubs have coastline relatively near them.
-
Saints were 40/1 to sign him on Skybet.com for a long time, they've now removed the market.
-
No it wouldn't. I want our youth players to do well when they are out on loan, if they do well whilst at Pompey, that helps Pompey. Do you really want to see that? Luckily it will never happen due to the rivalry intense between the two clubs for a partnership to help each other to be agreed.

Number of FA Cup quarter finals which have required replays... 15/16 - 1 14/15 - 2 13/14 - 0 12/13 - 2 11/12 - 1 10/11 - 0 09/10 - 1 08/09 - 0 07/08 - 0 Its not going to make a difference to many teams each season.

CONFIRMED - Mane joins Liverpool for £34m + £2m addons
Matthew Le God replied to toe_punt's topic in The Saints
In a transfer market where Benteke cost £32m and Sterling cost £49m, I'd be disappointed if Mane only went for £25m to £30m! He is more effective than both Benteke & Sterling. Those deals were also done before the new huge rise in TV money, which will inflate transfer fees. Mane has caused every single defence in the Premier League a lot of problems, his close control, pace, technique, creativity, young age & goal scoring all make him extremely valuable and he is underrated by quite a few Saints fans. -
Why is that in any way relevant? Shane Long doesn't have a British birth certificate, he doesn't have British passport. In law he is not British. By what means do you think he is? People bring up the "British Isles" thinking that makes the Republic of Ireland British, but the Republic of Ireland government doesn't call it the British Isles. As I said before the word Republic in the name is a big clue that it isn't connected. The French don't call the English Channel what the English do, they call it la Manche/the sleeve.
-
I'm lost as to your point. That doesn't make Shane Long British. The English Channel isn't English just because the English call it the English channel, the French don't call it that. Shane Long doesn't have one of these, not a British birth certificate and he is not British...

Shane Long is not British. There is a clue in the name... Republic of Ireland

Saints Transfers Thread - Deadline Day
Matthew Le God replied to Saint Charlie's topic in The Saints
I don't think its unreasonable to think he is the best backup keeper the club has ever had. The current squad is also the best we've ever had, a huge number of current or recent internationals and more depth than ever before. -
Why are you comparing 18 year old Alfie Jones with 23 year old Ben Gibson? They are both at very different stages of their career.
