The end result of course being 8th in the league.

With Leicester currently 8th in the league. Oh the irony!

Top five negatives about saints at the moment.

Just 1pt above the relegation zone. Players like Tadic and Redmond seem very short on confidence. Defense pales in comparison to the days when we had Fonte + Somebody. Have quality players like Gabbi on the bench when at home against the likes of Stoke Not sure if the new owners have the first clue about running a football club. -

Not in the relegation zone. Kept a clean sheet on Saturday. Have a some quality players. We seem to play better away from home. struggling.... -

Shearer scored a hatrick on debut so I'll take Shearer from that game -

We can't even manage a fluke win against any of those teams. Chance of going down: High

46 points will get you well into the top half of the table at the end of this season? What do you expect and what do you consider successful? Automatic European qualification?
-
Remember Gaston Ramirez and Dani Osvaldo? Both record signings as I remember Classie was just under Osvaldo's fee. Where is he? I think Billy Sharp was a record signing and Kerry Dixon. Who's to blame? For every difficult question there are 3 simple answers and they are usually all wrong!
-
Miracles can happen, for once I find myself in at least partial agreement with Alpine. The lack of signings at this point is a bit worrying, not bothered about Theo Walcott and I haven't given up hope yet, perhaps some offers have been rejected.
-
If we give him a 4year contract on 100k per week + 20M transfer fee. That's £41 Million on a 28year old who has never played regular first team football and a bad injury record. That's not my definition of 'afford'
-
ITK told me Osvaldo coming on loan too!
-
If Les can persuade Walcott to accept half the wages that he will get at Everton, he is a miracle worker. If not, people will call for his head. Saints fans who think we can afford Walcott are living in a fantasy world.

It's not too late but we need a new manager and new players. IMO, things started going wrong when we lost Fonte. Our success over recent years has been rooted in our excellent defence which had remained quite unchanged compared to the rest of the team. Fonte was the leader, organiser of that defence. Since we lost Fonte and then VVD through injury/transfer drama, we can no longer keep clean sheets which leads to more defensive formations, less goals, it's a vicious circle. We need a manager who can organise the defence and a leader in there. We also need someone who can create and score goals from the midfield. The lack of goal threat from midfield is truly shocking at the moment. 2 quality signings + a new manager and we can easily stay up but I fear the owners aren't willing to pay for it.
-
Sacking the manager at this point is not enough. They need to re-invest a lot of the VVD money to keep us up. Let's see if the new owners are willing to invest or whether they will keep the money with their fingers crossed...
-
Until they realize he isn't all that amazing and gets injured all the time.
-
His parents wont be happy with him crayoning the TV. We scored 2 away from home, happy days!
-
Also, several times Newcastle cut through us like a hot knife through butter because the midfield didn't work hard enough to get back and defend. Their second goal is an example.

Saints 0 Watford 2 - Match & Meltdown
southamptonfc replied to Secret Site Agent's topic in The Saints
Anything as long as we have 2 up front. The midfield was terrible today and created nothing. The long ball up to Shane Long (as we often played up Koeman) was effective. Gabbi and Long up front for me and a lot of our problems will go away. 1 up front seems to be the latest fashion but until we get a target man, it needs to go. Use the players we have correctly ffs! -
Wikipedia mentions "Despite his talent, he has also earned a reputation for having a temper and for lacking concentration at times" Saints record signings of late: Lemina Boufal Osvaldo Ramirez I'm seeing a pattern here....

Neither of you answered my question! If tomorrow somebody came to YOU and said they would triple your salary for 4 years, allowing you to maximise your earning potential, giving your children the best life you can possibly provide for them, what would YOU do? Where was our supporter's and club's loyalty when it came to sacking Puel? Double standards I think? We didn't get European football, sack the manager. Player wants to (and is good enough) to play European football, he's not allowed to do anything about it. I don't understand why people think he owes us anything. We didn't rescue him from a raft drifting at sea or give him a job when nobody else would. He has a contract to play football for us, that's it! I think there are parallels with Gatlin winning the 100m the other day. He got his deserved boos and most people think he shouldn't have been running but the system and the law allows it, why would he not turn up to race? The system in football is broken, it makes me sick to the point I am numbed by what goes on nowadays but I don't blame an abitious man for wanting the best for himself and his family and taking every opportunity that comes his way.
-
OK I should've said if somebody offered to triple your salary with another 4 year contract. In 4 years you would earn double what you would've earned originally. He could do an ACL in a month's time and never play again. He has to think about his and his families future. Good for you for showing loyalty but I don't think many people could HONESTLY say they would do they same and personally I think he be mad not to.
-
Before jumping on the bloke, put yourself in his position. If tomorrow somebody would pay you 2, 3 or 4x your current salary. What would you do? Answer that question honestly. I am disappointed at the situation but we've been here so many times I'm resigned to it now. Best case is that he does a Wanyama, we get half or one more season out of him then get loads of money with a replacement lined up. That is football nowadays, I hate it too that is how it is.

You'd rather see more win and/or draws but finish lower in the table? Nuff said
