He was desperate to become a mechanic when he retired from playing and went round various garages effectively offering to work for free just to get some experience but no one was interested. So I guess players would be at a bit of a disadvantage trying to get a "proper" job when they're starting 15-20 years after everyone else. To be fair to him he's pretty good at linking play and, as you say, he can finish but I think a lot of fans would get frustrated with him. Completely agree. I think the reputation comes from being a bit more comfortable on the ball than a lot of cbs. People look at that and seem to place more importance on it than good defending (same with 'keepers too). Having said that, I don't think Edwards showed any great composure for us either. Good luck to him and all that but I can't see him being anything other than an average championship defender.
