  1. Yeah, and you can actually make a case that another striker isn't a particular priority and we can make do with what we already have. Archer, Armstrong, Stewart and BBD have all had decent spells in the championship to some extent. Personally I'd like someone tall, rangy, decent pace and good mobility but I don't think we'll go mental on a big money signing so someone like Downs fits the bill. No idea if he'll be a success or not but the idea is decent and we'll judge the reality if he signs. A more established player would still come with an element of uncertainty but for different reasons.
  2. Yep, just goes to show how difficult it is to judge players and also how expensive strikers with those kind of attributes are. I watched the two play off games against Charlton and specifically paid attention to Kone and wasn't that impressed. Both games were god awful with very little quality from either side so I won't say he's bad, just that on those showings he didn't catch the eye much.
  3. And you won't know any of that until the end of the season.
  4. Probably not although I wouldn't mind him in. I got the impression that the early deals Solak was talking about would be mostly at the cheaper end and easy deals to do. Fellows (or anyone else linked with premier league moves) is going to wait as long as they possibly can to see if a deal comes up. If it doesn't then that's when they go to a championship club.
  5. I didn't dislike Brooks and he seems like a good lad but, based on his performances for us and given the chance I probably wouldn't sign him. I'm guessing Fellows must definitely be off if Brooks is coming in.
  6. Coventry fans seem to really rate him: https://www.skybluestalk.co.uk/threads/milan-van-ewijk.168172/
  7. Nah, fair enough. Looking at his record though I'm not sure anyone would get excited if his name wasn't prefixed with "ex-Liverpool youngster".
  8. Only started 7 of those 17 though and has played 21 minutes since 15th Feb (he was out for three games with injury initially). Pretty clear he's not what you'd call a first team regular.
  9. Yeah, my brief research has concluded he got a move to Austria (10M must be a pretty big fee for that league), couldn't hack the physicality of the league and is angling for a move back. Sounds more like trying to drum up a bit of interest in him than anything else and if can't hack the physical demands of Austria then it doesn't exactly fit the profile Spors was talking about.
  10. Yeah, they signed him for about 10M + a 17.5% sell on fee so he wouldn't come cheap though.
  11. So the striker appears to be Downs. I'm quite happy about that but can see why some would have reservations. Wonder who the creative midfielder is? There's not been a massive amount of links but the Besfort Zeneli one didn't seem too bad and he seems to have the ability to go past a player in a similar way to Stuart Armstrong which I think we missed last season.
  12. Not sure we're short at CB - we'll still have Wood, Edwards, Quarshie, Sanda. I don't think Stephens goes and can always play Bree and Taylor there too. Not a huge amount of experience mind but in terms of numbers then it's fine.
  13. I'll tell you what's deranged. Watching Trump supporters do mental gymnastics as they shift their opinion to whatever guff comes out of his mouth and generally contradicting whatever guff came out yesterday. Free thinkers my arse, they're a bunch of fucking seals without a brain cell between them. That's deranged.
  14. Alfie House has just said the replacement will be Key. Can't find any details on him but will try and find out more.
  15. Yeah, I left out Freeman cos that seemed a bit tenuous but you're right, we have been linked. Solak said we were going to sign a striker, creative midfielder and CB. Centre back was Quarshie so that leaves the striker and creative midfielder left to do.
  16. Kayne Kesler-Hayden too. On loan from Villa to Preston last season, did well, won the player of the year trophy and Villa want to sell him. Us and 'Boro rumoured to be interested. I'd imagine a new RB will depend on shifting Sugawara or Bree though.
  17. I'm not sure Dibling goes either. We seem to holding out for top dollar on him and not sure there's many clubs that could afford to pay it and justify it right now. Of the ones we expect to go, he looks like he could be the least suited to a high energy style but if he can adjust to it then he could be a huge player for us.
  18. To be honest I really struggled to think what could be considered a realistic price. On the one hand he does have a very good record in the championship but everyone knows he won't cut it in the premier league, there probably wouldn't be much resale value and his wages will be pretty high for this division too. You could be more accurate on the price than me. Obviously would be better to sell abroad but he probably won't have too many clubs wanting him so I think once the club makes the decision he's available then it's a case of whoever meets the valuation.
  19. Cheers, yeah that makes sense. Can't be bothered to work it out but I'm guessing his PSR value to us should be pretty low. Clearly no premier league cub is going to come in for him so that'll lower his price but a 28 year old with his record in the championship should attract the more ambitious championship clubs. Maybe Brum, Wrexham or Ipswich? 8-10M kind of price I reckon should do it.
  20. I'm ambivalent about selling or keeping Armstrong and can see both sides. Leaving aside the various merits of whether we should keep or sell, I'd be interested to know what the club value him at. Does anyone know where we stand from a PSR point of view? Now that he's completed his initial contract does anything we get for him become pure profit?
  21. Not overly impressed, has only ever hit double figures in his career once (last season) and previous years have been pretty poor in terms of goal return both in France and Switzerland.
  22. Was that back when he was a craven cottager?
  23. Just watched 28 Years Later and was a bit disappointed. It's not a particularly strong story and got a bit dull when there wasn't killing the infected action. I'm sure there's some bollocks about toxic masculinity chucked in but most of that goes over my head. Bottom line is that, as a piece of entertainment, I didn't think it delivered much and certainly the weakest of the three films.
  24. Yeah, I guess Sargent although Norwich are looking for 15-20M for him and, even if that could be haggled down a bit, it's still a hefty wedge for a player who didn't do so well in the premier league and probably wouldn't again.
  25. Yeah, the story as I understand it and been passed down from generation to generation was that McMenemy was appointed as an assistant but with the understanding that he was always going to get the managers job at some point. I'm looking forward to tales of spangles, 3 day weeks and children going on strike (or was it miners? Minors, miners, same difference).
